Best RPG soundtracks?

GorakkhGorakkh Member Posts: 694

Any that I don't have that you would recommend? I really like piano tracks and I'm a big fan of John Williams stuff ( Even though it isn't videogame music. )

I own the following :

Yasunori Mitsuda - Chrono Cross OST. ( Amazing OST, music is vibrant and beautiful. Some of it is a little sad sounding though, and a couple tracks are eerie sounding, but that was for those dungeons etc in the game, I just don't like eerie music when I'm just listening to an OST and not hearing it in-game insnyc with It's environment.

Nobuo Uematsu - Final Fantasy IX OST - ( Pretty good tracks, I really like some of the softer tunes. )

Radiata Stories OST - ( Bought it because I loved the music when I played the game and had to get the soundtrack. Alot of fun and upbeat tunes on this OST. )

Not sure if I have anymore, if I do It's only 1 or 2 more but I can't remember what they are atm.

Oh the other OST I have is Losy Odyssey. I haven't even opened it out've the seal yet but I listened to some of It's tracks on youtube and I think It's pretty solid.

Homeworld 1 and Homeworld 2 soundtracks are beautifully haunting.

www.youtube.com/watch during fights this song just really haunts me a little, along with most of the battle songs in these games.

www.youtube.com/watch from homeworld 1, adagio of strings is by far one of the most beautiful tracks i've heard in a game

I also enjoyed much of the Witcher soundtrack

TES IV: Oblivion. Only soundtrack I have heard though, mostly because I really love listening music when playing.

the Chrono Trigger OST is a classic and a must in every game soundtrack library :)

Chrono Trigger has got to be #1.  For #2 my rating would go to.... Final Fantasy 6!!!  [That was called Final Fantasy III in the US.]

Also the "soundtrack" to Rock and Roll Racing was pretty cool. 8-)

    The one and only.

Nice recommendation.. KH series has great soundtracks, even though I do not personally own the soundtrack. I might think about picking those up, although I think I'm going to get Legend Of Mana OST for my next one.

Jeremy Soule, he also did the Dungeon Siege music which is pretty good also.

Can we count Castlevania: Symphony of the Night a RPG? It has a great soundtrack.

Am I the only one who thinks japanese developers do invest a lot on good soundtracks for their games? RPGs aside, Konami and Nintendo got a several audio gems in the MGS and the Legend of Zelda franchises.

Yeah i loved that soundtrack. I would make new characters just to listen to the intro.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.

If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

Loved Chrono Crosses soundtrack.  It was epic.  Some other ones I liked were Romancing SaGa and Star Ocean 3.

Romancing SaGa has nice tracks although I just remember from playing the remake of it for ps2, I don't actually own the OST for it. Star Ocean 3 :TTEOT has great music as well, It's also my favorite game in the Star Ocean series. That would definitely be one I might pick up.

If you're a fan of Yasunori Mitsuda, Xenogears CREID is a must have. It's an arranged version of the Xenogears OST and both are of course great.

CREID is pretty much my single most favorite work of a game OST. I like Nobuo's work for Final Fantasy VIII as well, and IX to be honest. Didn't like the two games that much, but the OSTs were great.
