Happy Birthday - Sony Walkman, 30 years old today

These things were huge in the 80s and seemed like such advanced technology back then.  I just saw a story today about a 13 year old kid who was shown one and he couldn't figure out how it worked.  You'd think he was given a slide rule or something.

I'm from an era of Walkman CD players. I remember having to upgrade every 2 months or so for that arms race of anti-skip seconds.

I wonder why Sony didn't carry the brand into mp3 players. Maybe they did and it didn't work out. It seems odd if they didn't though.

    lmfao!

I think sony does make mp3 players...wait yeah they do because mine says sony walkman on the back.

Holds just nearly as much songs as a standard ipod..2 years ago maybe, which is more than enough personally. Doesn't have all those extra features like games and such though.

Saw a couple of mp3 walkmans (if i remember them right) in niagara nearly two years ago. And my gramps had a sony walkman that looked like a card haha, that was cool :) Good thing they are preserving "walkman" brand. They've even integrated some in sony ericsson phones.
