ballist1cballist1c Member Posts: 5

Hey guys,

To all you seasoned veterans out there, i was interested in investing in an interceptor class ship.... what do u guys think of these ships?  Are they decent?  Are they practical? or are they just a bloat class???  I would really like to know if interceptors are powerful or not as they are bloomin expensive...  and what sorta load out should i get if i did finally get one

I absolutely loved my Crusader interceptor, until it got blown up during a mission a while back...by NPCs... *blush*

I used the Crusader for all things mission oriented (except large cargo runs) and roaming across the Eve universe, since it is very fast, has good powergrid for weapons and MWD and very agile - it jumps into warp like a bat out of hell! Plus it has very good armour for a frigate. I'm definitely going to get me another one soon.

The thing is, the interceptors are very different depending on what race we are talking about. Most people seem to like the missile-spamming versions, which I have no experience with, since the Crusader is your average turret-loving, armoured Amarr ship. I used a config something along this line, if memory serves:

High: 4x named Pulse Lasers with multifrequency crystals.
    Medium: MWD and Webifier
Low: 2x Auxilary Power Core, named small Armour Repairer and...something else...armour hardener maybe.

Warp in at close range, orbit at 2.5 - 5 km while webbing the victim. Hit MWD at intervals to keep orbit speed at 1000+ m/s, and watch the pulse lasers slash into the poor Gurista or whatever.

I fly a Taranus and it rocks.  Unless there is some seroius tracking boosting going on then there is little or no chance of a battleship or cruiser ever hitting you.

    My setup:

    3x Small Modal Ion Blasters

    1 10mn Cruiser Afterburner

    1 Cap Recharger 2

    1 7.5k warp scrambler.

    3x Reactor Control Unit 2.

Only scout drones can kill inties. Dunno if they changed anything on the drones in this patch, but before the last patch scout drones were the real and only enemies for the inties.

    I'd go for the Crow.

With 3 missile launchers, it's got the most firepower of all the interceptors, specially since when yer orbiting a foe at 3k/s your turrets will not track at all. Also very good for warp jamming and webifying

It sort of depends on what you're going to use it for, I personally think you get the most out of an interceptor if you use it as a specialist ship within a PVP squadron, i.e. if you have the ability to set it up in a way that you can rely on your teammates for whatever you yourself lack (so that you don't have to go and try to fit everything on just the interceptor). Having said that, they're fantastic for taking out pods (which is useful for both pirates and anti-pirates), and also being a general pain in the ass, very hard to hit, they move fast, and they can be used to quickly get close to the enemy and web & scramble him. Add a few good guns or possibly vamps or similar and you're set. Using it just for soloing or doing agent missions or what not makes it slightly less useful in my opinion, in my opinion.

I love rain, the color gray, and small apartments.
I hate CS, the term n00b and this thing --> ^^
    But that's just me.

The ceptors sure rock if they, as with any ship in EVE for that matter, is fitted and used correctly. They escpecially fill one role better than any other class: tanglers, i.e: they catch and hold victims (webbies and scramblers) very good due to both uber locking time and uber ship speed. The Stilletto is exelent for this duty, prob best in the whole game for it.

Stiletto all the way. With 4 med slots I use 2 minmitar racial jammers (to jam unsuspecting ruptures/rifters) 1 10mn ABS, and either one web, or one scrambler depending on what my teamates have.

Sweet, I am working on getting my own interceptor....the Isk will be the fun part.  As far as PvP, are they good solo, or should they bring friends to help?

If fitted wisely, they are quite good solo. Especially against other friggets but, no doubt, they fitt their role best in team with dmg dealers.
