Want Another Chrono Trigger series game?

From IGN:

June 8, 2009 - Hoping for a new Chrono Trigger game? Better start buying your grandmother and her dog a copy, too.

Speaking to RPGsite.com, Square Enix Senior Vice President Shinji Hashimoto says the franchise hasn't sold well enough to warrant development of a new title in the series. When told fans were clamoring for a new game, Hashimoto shrugged it off.

"That's not what the sales tell me!" Hashimoto said. "If people want a sequel, they should buy more!"

While sales of the Nintendo DS version of the Super Nintendo classic were somewhat sluggish, with worldwide sales reaching close to 800K last year, it doesn't help the game originally hit retail shelves at a ridiculous $39.99 price point in the North America.

If Square-Enix wants more sales, how about they stop overcharging fans for 14-year old ports?

----------------------------------

It's aggervating that Hashimoto said that. Square-Enix have been milking a lot of the Final Fantasy series so they feel we should buy more copies of their milked Chrono Trigger port for DS in order to make them feel like we actually want a sequal when they know we want one and it will gain massive sales when they do. Sometimes I just  don't understand. I want to buy CT for DS, but I'm not paying 40 bucks for that game. Not a chance in hell.

34.99 is the usual price for new DS games, isn't it? I didn't notice when I picked up my copy that it was five bucks more expensive. Random of them to price it that way but not really a huge price.

I'm sure its cheaper now since its been out for awhile, and I'd definitely advise buying it. It's a great port, has FMV sequences and such, new ways to play and an entirely new dungeon for playing through the second time.

Anyway, no idea why he would say that. Even Chrono Cross did well. I think what he meant to say is there's no reason to create a Chrono anything when they're releasing..what, 3 different versions of Final Fantasy XIII on PS3? One version on 360, Final Fantasy XIV, probably yet another Crystal Chronicle on DS, and VI and VII ports to PSP...etc.

Maybe when and if ever the Final Fantasy popularity dries up they'll return in earnest to their plethora of other good franchises. I'm still waiting for Episode 6 of the Xenogears story myself.

I don't want to buy any handheld game.  If they want a better sales figure, they should sell on a better platform.

To be quite frank, it has been a while since a Square Enix title rocked my world. Was never expecting them to deliver a good game again anyways.

I've seen the Chrono Trigger DS' website and they've added additional features that seem to be ok. CT is a classic that i want to keep on playing. But it's not a "i want to get a DS for this!" game. They've relaunched it already for the Playstation (which is also playable in the PSP using the eboot format), and the not-so-legal snes roms. There have just been too many CTs in my opinion.
