They could just make death illegal...... Instead of regulating/outlawing all the little things that add up to you kicking the bucket, would make life a bit more enjoyable i say.
They are to busy debating assisted suicide, even the states are undecided on that matter.

Honestly i thought this was going to be a permadeath thread.
Its been said time and time again, but I'll add my two cents in. It is NOT the game companies fault if a person becomes addicted to the game.
Don't be so ignorant. Blizzard and SoE both had participants in seminaries regarding compulsive behavior and addictiveness of games. Not to help the people who are addicted but to use it in their games, admidded by former employees.
How is it not the fault of companies when these elements are introduced into the game on purpose? Stop the bs.
Clinics and doctors who get exhausted players, often in coma into their hospital are starting to ask questions.
15-year-old kid who gets brought into the hospital in a coma, I've been to that hospital myself (not for addiction), you think those doctors don't ask questions about the game?
Tell me. What addictive chemical do mmo's put inside your body?

While playing the Aion beta this weekend i received notice from the server that I had been playing for a long time and that I should take a break for my health
Mandating 5 hour breaks is a useless gesture. Unlike China, in many countries the internet cafes are not a big proportion of players. How can you enforce it? A person can just play a different game or switch to a different game account.
For some games it is more convenient to go afk and have a break than to logout and log back in.
From a health viewpoint there are some things that games could do:
make it possible for people to go afk for a break
avoid repetitive strain injuries by minimising repetitive actions when using keyboard, controller or joystick.
encourage people to take breaks.
There are many other legal things that cause more health issues and greater social harm. Some examples include alcohol abuse, smoking and gambling. MMO's do not even rate a mention compared to the 3 examples I mentioned.
While the deaths mentioned did involve people playing a MMO, given their personalities, it is likely that those deaths would still have occurred while the person engaged in some other activity.
it's funny that some people can just ignore getting headaches, eyestrains, etc. from playing for days straight (or maybe they don't get them anymore?) haha I kind of envy those who can play for more than 48 hours though, how can they have soooooo much time...
