You couldn't pay me to play an FPS on a PC. A mouse and keyboard? No way. Yeah, it's much easier to hit stuff when the console is cheating for you. Firing a gun is more like throwing a grenade.
What you ofcourse meant to say is that you yourself cannot aim accurately with analog sticks. If analog sticks are so accurate, why do consoles cheat for you on aiming?
You do not have to bullseye anything? Did I stutter?
I have to ask... Where exactly are you getting your information about this from? I mean sure, most games have an Auto Aim option but it's almost always automatically disabled on all but the easy Difficulty.
On a strange side note, Real Guns are easier to hit things with than Digital Ones.

So far I have not seen an FPS on a console without auto-aim of some kind. Though I have played several, the only one I have played a lot is Halo (because my nephew seems to have a boner for that series). He is comfortable with it because he didnt play FPSs on a PC, but it is painful to watch him...the movement is jerky and awkward. Without auto-aim he would not be hitting anything.
EDIT - From what I can tell, it is never actually disabled...the level of auto-aim might vary with the difficulty, but it is always present.
A guy earlier in the thread said that Quake on the X-Box has the option to turn off auto-aim, but I havnt played that one.
I have Halo 3, and it didn't seem jerky to me... Look just a smooth as COD4 on my PC.
I didn't notice any auto aim to Halo 3 either... maybe I just didn't notice it... /shrug.
I have COD4 on all 3 systems... outside the aim down sight, auto aim in single player, I know for a fact there is no aim assist in the console versions, of that game. I can hit so much better on my PC.
I have Halo 3, and it didn't seem jerky to me... Look just a smooth as COD4 on my PC. Turn off auto-aim and try to hit three targets in a row.
I got a few friends that play better on a console then they do on a PC and it has nothing to do with your so-called auto-aim, it has to do that they are more console gamers there for more experianced with the console, I myself play much better on a PC then on a console but do not understand this snobism towards people who might enjoy console more then PC or hte other way around, just keep in mind in the end al we are is GAMERS, regardless if it's pc or console we all have our own opinions, but as a gamer I would never look down on a console player.
I even got a small list of console games I hope will one day be released on PC, Fable 2 is one of them.
MoH/AA was my last console game I bought/played and had fun with, but at the time I invested some money in a high end system and MoH/AA just looked so much better then my ps2 version and since my PS2 was more just sitting there eating dust and gave it to my GF's little brother.
But as I said before in this topic, I might consider buying a console, maybe not now, but perhaps in a year perhaps 2/3 years even from now, maybe even wait till a new console is created, thinking PS4 or Xbox720, yeah yeah I know they might not be called that way, but .....anyway I will call them that for now till solid info is given.
I never really considered console auto-aim to be cheating because it does it for everyone. It's cheesy sure but FPS games would be virtually unplayable without it. Properly done the auto-aim is subtle and totally unnoticeable unless you've played a lot of PC shooters with the mouse and keyboard.
I played Quake 4 on the 360. A straight-up port of Quake 2 was included with it, and it had NO auto-aim whatsoever. Holy jesus it was hard, couldn't hit a damn thing. Made me glad I still had it for PC when I felt like some retro-gaming.
I got a few friends that play better on a console then they do on a PC and it has nothing to do with your so-called auto-aim
How did you determine that?
I myself play much better on a PC then on a console but do not understand this snobism towards people who might enjoy console more then PC
Heh, "snobism". Did you miss the part(s) of my post(s) where I praised the consoles for fighting and racing games?
I never really considered console auto-aim to be cheating because it does it for everyone.
Its cheating in the sense that it is allowing you to hit stuff that you would normally not be able to hit if you actually had to "really" aim without it.
Would you prefer to get 10-30 FPS on a console or get 60+ on PC with a $129.99 video card? That's the difference between playing The Last Remnant on Xbox 360 and PC. I prefer PC all the way.
I prefer PC over console but that doesn't mean I don't like console. And I'm not against those who like playing FPS games on console. In fact I'm greatly impressed because I find it harder to play FPS games on consoles than on PC.
For the normal gaming (RPG, Sports, Racing, 1-2 players), i'd definitely go for the console. For online games such as MMORPGS and strategy games (i.e. Warcraft) where chatting is a bit essential, the PC is definitely better, and the keyboard is the perfect match i believe.
What’s this about ‘auto aim’ on consoles? I have never had a console, are you saying they have a option to always hit if thy point the gun roughly in the right direction? What about Valve games? Are PC owners having to work harder for the same degree of community kudos?
PC. I play a lot of sim games and the console doesn't have the hardwar (HOTAS setup for flight sims) nor the games. Even consoles flagship racing game is increadibly arcadey
when I play FPS I play competitively in leagues. Consoles have a very low glass ceiling because of the controller so they don't interest me.
The only reason i'd get a console is for rpgs, but i'm after in depth, adult rpgs like fallout, baulders gate and planetscape. I have no interest in playing the recent crop of rpgs, as they seem to be closer to action rpgs, not the classic rpgs that I am after. PC has dragon age coming which will hopefully satisfy my rpg desires.

Sorta... it more like a bigger hit box.
Now in COD4 you had to aim down sight... for the auto aim to happen and that was only in single player.
Basically you point at the enemy, then hold down the aim down sight button, fire, release aim down sight, then hold it again to switch to another.
Left 4 Dead didn't have any kinda of auto aim, on the 360... I'm guessing the orange box was the same way.
Definately PC for any FPS games, although I still play stuff like CoD and halo 3 on my xbox.
Consoles are better for fighting and driving/racing games, better for platformers (particularly 2D) and better for more niche types of games as seen by the Wii, DS and things like eye toy. PCs have the MMO genre at the moment, and I prefer mouse + keyboard and a monitor for any type of strategy game.
As for the PC leading the evolution of gaming, what about the DS, Wii and all the other real time gaming stuff like the natal and eye toy? Im sure within a few years most sports games will be implementing the Wii style full body control gaming, as well as driving and platform games heading away from the D-pad style. Even puzzle games can get a whole new lease of life from innovative controls.
To me the question should be, which do you prefer, Mouse and Keyboard, or controller?
That's the real issue. Both the console and the computer have the same sort of chip inside the box, what makes them so different is the controller used.
Put a mouse and keyboard on a console, or a controller on the PC and one becomes the other.
What’s this about ‘auto aim’ on consoles? I have never had a console, are you saying they have a option to always hit if thy point the gun roughly in the right direction?
Yeah, pretty much. You do not have to bullseye a target on consoles like on a PC...it fudges the aim for you so stuff is easier to hit. The bigger "hitbox (an invisible virtual area in the game which determines if you hit the object or not) is larger than the actual target, where in PC games it is the same size. Presumably because the controls (D-pads and analog joysticks) are cumbersome to use for aiming.
Since PC and Console users are on different servers (as far as I know anyway), it is technically fair in multiplayer, even on the same games. But it illustrates why FPSs are better on PCs...they are more intuitive and easier to play.

Yeah, but console users will not want to use mice because they are typically playing from a couch, not a desk. So even though consoles could technically use the same interface, I dont think most console owners would actually use them. So consoles use controllers by default.

So invent a mouse keyboard sort of thing that's good for using on the couch.
I dont think there is enough of a demand for it...the people who care already play on PCs. I dont see console owners shelling out for a new controller just to play FPSs on the console at the same level PC users do.
Not to mention there would need to be software-side support...obviously you would want to be able to disable auto-aim if you are playing against people using conventional controllers...you'd have to segregate multiplayer servers by controller type ect.. I dont see console users putting up with all of that. One of the main appeals of a console after all is simplicity and easy of use.

Just my two cents
MMORPG forum.
MMORPGs are a PC genre.
Not shocking at all - predictably different from the actual ratio of PC-to-Console gamers, where Console gamers drastically outnumber PC ones.

For me consoles for everything except MMOs.
And I've been playing PC games since 286s, and Xbox360 is my first console.
For me it's the opposite, anything coming on consoles does not interest me. Nor am I interested buying a console of any kind.
