And why does everyone seem to demand NEW NEW NEW for a game, when its the old and classics that should be looked at since they're the one's that started it all, inovation is great, but don't forget your roots.

Actually, Lineage 1 has 1,5 million subscribers, and Lineage 2 has around 1,1 million subscribers. thats 2,6 million subscribers combined. 1.1 is NA/EURO conbined this doesnt  take in consideration korean ones.

if you conbine all games online ncosft have atm they  do have more subscribers,  anyways we dont really care about who got the biggest one right ? fact is blyzzard and ncsoft are the 2 biggest MMO devs of the market atm.

blyzzard have about 8m5 subscribers ( read people that bought the game and played it) but actuallly about 6m5 players.

back to  the topic this game is still the one that appeals me the most with WAR at the moment.. and if only some detials such grafics ll make me decide of one or the other.. it ll be certainly AION.

Aion is the game that I am most looking forward too. The art design is just plain ol' fantastic looking and the overall environments have been done extremely well. When it comes to combat, I can't see it making any huge changes (except for mid-air combat, which CoH has, but hasn't done well), but I can't see it being really bad either.  What will make this game good is the way everything is dynamic and ever changing. The idea that if I do action A, the entire world changes. While another player does action B on another server, then his world changes. The essence of that idea has not been seen by any other MMO. The weather will have an effect on the way you play your character in combat. If you use a fire spell while it rains, then the efficiency diminishes. As you wade through swamp water, your character slows down because of the water. These obvious, but seemingly easy to implement, improvements are going to make this game stand out.

It doesn't matter if PlayNC is better than Blizzard. The fact is, PlayNC is successful and knows what it is doing. I have complete faith, and because of the way this game looks and the information I've seen on it, this is my most anticipated MMO. Whether I turn out to be wrong and this game sucks worse than Archlord (that's right I said it), or I turn out to be right and it plays like nothing else, it is still my most anticipated.

The number of people playing an MMO has almost nothing to do with how fun a game is for each player.  I realize that you're trying to say that they're a more successful company than blizzard(but even with that argument blizzard is better because they've got more players than any other) but that shouldn't be brought up when you're talking about whether a game is going to be good or not.  I have to agree with Thaak on this one.  They are both successful MMO creators and that's all that needs to be said.

Now to move on to wanting "NEW NEW NEW."  People want new because they don't like what is out now.  I, personally, do not know of an MMO that is out right now that meets what I want as a gamer.  I love the idea of an MMO and I have enjoyed many hours playing MMO's but I can honestly say that no one has done it right yet.  WoW has gotten close, CoX is pretty good, but that's it.  EQ2 was good but it was basically WoW but not as cartoony.  However, none of these are without their problems.  Aion offers a new world system (tiers) with amazing graphics (CryENGINE) and an innovative playing experience (PvPvE).  People want new because new exciting.  New is different.  New means that "Hey, something different...maybe they've done it right this time."  New means hope.  As for the roots of MMO's all you need is the basic premise of a massive world that is always active and has a massive amount of people interacting with that world.  That's all that is needed and the rest can be changed without losing one's roots.  I do not think that Aion will be exactly what I am looking for in an MMO but I hope that it will be pretty damn close.

Taken from one of the interviews with an Aion developer on aionfuse.com:

"It's easy to get tied up in first impressions but I think it's far more important for a game to be enjoyable over time. Depth is a needed element in any game, and this is the philosophy we abide by in our work. We thank the fans for their continued interest in the project."

I think that is good advice (not just for Aion - for any MMO). But I also can't help think that what is one player's depth and entertainment could easily be another player's boring grind. Like all the other major MMORPG titles announced for release this year, I'll definately give Aion a try as well.

EDIT: Can't bloody spell at this hour...

Aion will have "professions". Crafting will be among them. So yes, it will definitely have a crafting system!

maybe somebody should research a little about a game before saying something degrading to it.. It does have a crafting system. read up on it at www. aionlib.com or www.aionsource.com either or is a great website.

Aion is obviously not even in the same catagory as any of the above games, Have you been to their site and seen the feature list? Its only 9 paragraphs long if you include the overview.
This game is exactly what it appears to be - a niche game like Dungeon runners, City of Heroes/Villians, Auto Assualt, its not intended to be a flagship title like Lineage, WoW, or Warhammer.
that doesnt mean its a bad game, im not putting it down, cant put it down nobody has played it yet. Im just saying, its not a top tier MMO, its a subclass, an off-shoot, a niche game, a "B" class title. However you want to put it - Its not going to compete for the # 1 market spot, this is a smaller project.

    Here's all 9 paragraphs -
Believe in Angels. Believe in Demons. Believe in Aion™.
Aion™ is the most visually stunning MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) ever made. Cutting-edge graphics redefine your expectations of online role-playing and reveal a world where angels, demons and dragons wage a war that will determine the future of the world.
Your role in this war is pivotal; every action and decision meaningful and important. Fate rests on your shoulders and you determine the evolution of Aion’s™ story through brutal warfare, brilliant strategy and political power.
    Control and Transform the World
Aion™ will transform the way you experience new content. You have the power to trigger world-changing events!
The actions of each player on every individual server will push storylines and quests in new directions. The effect of each unique action will eventually accumulate to trigger new game content such as the opening of new dungeons or the rise of a world completely different to what was there before.
You will create a distinct history and will have your name forever recorded in fame or in infamy.
    PvPvE
Other online role-playing games have PvE - player versus environment: fighting computer-controlled monsters and PvP – player versus player: human-controlled characters fighting each other.
For the first time in the MMORPG genre, Aion™ brings these two game features together in an evolving and seamless system. PvPvE manages the complex relationships and alliances between realms, races and guilds; it also controls the mighty Dragons, a non-player faction and a common enemy to all players, regardless of faction.
    Blending Fantasy and Reality
Aion™ delivers a new level of graphical detail and world interactivity. Climb sheer cliffs, fly through moving clouds, see water ripple from the downdraft of your own powerful wings and leap gaping chasms. A supremely powerful graphical engine brings the world of your fantasies to life like never before.
    The Music of Aion™
The best movies and games are driven by spectacular music scores and Aion™ is no different. Kinihiko Ryu – one of the world’s leading composers of movie and television soundtracks is creating incredible music that seamlessly interweaves with on-screen action, setting the mood and creating the perfect atmosphere for your adventures in the world of Aion™.

You mean Lineage 2's 12 million subscribers?

I'm not going to say it's true or not, but that's what NCsoft says.

I know the game is doing well enough here in the US but is by no means up there with WoW, but the servers I see when I log in are not the same ones that Koreans see when they log in.  L2 is HUGE over there.

WoW got the market in the US but it hasn't dominated the world.

I agree, the game is a bit grindy and quite frankly you cannot judge a book by its cover which is what a lot of English players are doing for Aion.

I personally have played Japanese and Asian MMORPGs. I understand what the game is about. People see pretty wings and great grahpics and are ready to play the game. They'll have a great dissipointment.

You admited you didn't play the game so I won't nitpick the errors about crafting etc, but you listed warhammer as an A rank game.    That kind of threw me off, A rank aspects and mechanics backing it with an interesting lore setting but as a whole it wasn't in my opinion. Even comparing release or the state of the game now, it didn't release and and just now comming close to its original promised content.  And god please don't get antsy in that game and jump around to much you WILL get stuck, I've never played a game where  I can get stuck damn near everywhere except an open field with no terrain.  Capturing a world objective and waiting for there for 3 minutes got me stuck twice lol (when you cap the immediate area, near the flag,  alters so something may pop on/in you and you'll have to relog).

I did a bit wider backgrounds of game and even joined a legion that has a top european status. Quitted following the game cause of inlegion smacktalk. Heres My views anyways:

    (a) The graphics will offer eyecandy for atleast for the first month of play.

    (b) Seemingly the grind is 1-3months to cap depending whether your hc or not.

    (c) The games end-game is totally directed for pvp, where abyss is a place where the castles are in 24/7 siege. Actually its a bit of Pvpve in a way that in castle battles you fight against NPC as well.

    (d) The korean version seems to have a "pay as you play" payment system where you buy hours instead of months. If you are casual, your 15€ would last 6months if you play 2hours/day.

Does this escape grind? Escape from normal korean gamestyle?

The Abyss pvp set (that is the best set) takes years of pvp grind to get. But partly its ok since they have introduced pvp rankings (familiar from vanilla WoW) where the 1000 best get a title (1st gets a commander, 10 after a bit less fancy name, 100 something...) so you can have partial goals meanwhile you hunt/gather your best set.

But what I do not think this game will do, is to penetrate the european game market as something new. Maybe its exciting in Korea not to grind to max level for a year (even in Lineage2 you nowadays have "vitality" with what you get 300% exp) and then do the grind at max level. The reason the game will fail for me, is that korean games in western markets have always gathered all the smacktalkers, firsttime gamers, MMOnoobs and so on since they have f2p.

Personally I think I will give the game a try if it comes with payperhour system but I certainly will not join ANY legion since im 100% sure they have smacktalkers.

The MMO as we know them today has really nearly run its course before the majority who play the genre are jaded with it. The future of decent online play is Co OP online gaming. Developers can then engage us in rich stories and do proper full on dx10 physics online to really take online gaming worlds forward and out of the static realm they now sit in for the most part today.

The EQ MMO and it's clones and successors are really running their course. They're now dull and repetitive leaving players with a feeling they've it all before in other MMO's with a different theme and skin, leaving only those who seek friends online clinging to these MMO's for friendship they don't have in real life. Now with micro payment going crazy there is a dark era of creative gaming coming our way.

Its actually quite funny I was just reading it, and the OP is saying AoC and WAR were gonna rival WoW and that AION wouldnt stand a chance and even uses figures such as 2 million subs from the Lineage series and now AoC and WAR combined dont even have 1mil subs haha funny.

Lineage's do actually both have over 1mil subscribers. I think you can find this info from either NcSoft or PlayNc sites (as I did some time ago).

Anyway, what I did forget to mention was that, how I see it, the only real next gen games will be made by Blizzard. Diablo3 and their unnamed next-gen MMO. Also im waiting for the sort of hyped Singleplayeronlinegames (other than pokers^^) where you dont have to group up to get the best achievements.

With all due respect, I have to disagree. This is completely an A list title. it is so obviously an A list title. From all the little details right up to the cinematics and the character creation.

If anything, I could see people screaming because the game seems influenced by wow.

    But B list? sorry.
