Black screen of doom...

in Starport: Galactic Empires
Riiiight - here's the poblem.  I've downloaded and installed fine, and the patches got here fine too... but when I go to play the game, I get a blank screen, and when I click - it returns back to my desktop without a trace of the game even existing...  might this be my firewall or a patch missing?  HELP ME PLEEEASE!

     I am also having this problem, it get's passed patching and turns black till you click a mouse button. But i have yet to see anyone post a solution. I'm running win98/2 nvidia g-force 4 mx 440 68mb vid mem, 512 mb ram, pent 1ghz, directx 9.0c. If anyone could point me to the post that tells of a fix or post a fix it would help alot. thnx
