Any folks here been deleted?

Apparently, the devs have started deleting toons that have leveled too quickly.  According to several posts at www.cityofheroes.com (which are being deleted by mods almost as soon as they go up), even older characters have been deleted in some instances, not just those recently PLed in the Mission Architect.  Several people have complained that level-pacted toons have been deleted too, even though they weren't PLed.

Lots of doom and gloom going on over there, though the posts are being modded pretty quick.

Hmm, not seen that myself but then I've been away from CoX for a few weeks - checking if the grass really was greener on the other side of the fence (tried LOTRO/AO and such things). It isn't by the way so now I'm back with CoX again...guess I just like the superhero genre...

While levelling fast like this doesn't initially seem to be a problem for the players, it raises eyebrows when a lvl 34 Peacebringer newly invited to the team has to ask how to get to Peregrine Island...presumably the last 84 levels were gained in the Mission Architect. Yes, that team was as bad as I expected and no I didn't stick around for long.

The devs are going to have to be very careful about deleting toons or reverting levels though. I have never PL'd any of my toons, if they deleted one of mine I'd be off  - even after spending over four years in the game.

None of mine have been deleted. Then again, I wasn't farming.

I check the forums pretty regularly and all i have seen is one mention of a character pled to 50 in about an hour. They even named the toon One Hour and then posted pics and everything on the forum.

Simple fact is, if you didn't do anything wrong you have nothing to worry about.

Ever notice how people who pronounce "the simple facts" are often oblivious to the nuances of a situation?  Check http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=13449435&an=0&page=0#Post13449435 for more info.  People are having level pacted characters deleted in addition to the deletions he threatens in the first post.  PLed toons from long before MA have also been reported deleted, with their accounts suspended for three days.  They seem to be applying a time-to-50 formula and deleting toons that were faster, regardless when they were leveled (at least, that's the way it's sounded from several of the posts.  They are deleting posts in real time, so reading the end of the thread is the way to go).

It typically takes me 6+ months to get a toon from 1 to 50 so it's not likely to affect me :) I don't play for more than a few minutes at a time these days though...finding the whole thing a bit boring to  be honest.

I just can't see why anyone would want to get a toon to 50 in a really short time anyway. What's the point? There's no end game as such in CoX, you just end up doing exactly what you were doing at level 1, just with a few more powers and a bit more health...ok a lot more health but the point still stands.

The so called 'epic' AT's are hardly epic - I remember being quite disappointed when I got my first PB. Still have it but it's the same as any other AT, at level 50 it does exactly what it did at level 1. ..that is, get a mission from a contact, kill things, go back to contact.

Guess what I'm trying to say here is that the people who are rushing like crazy to get to 50 are going to be in for one hell of a disappointment when they get there if they are expecting something special to happen.

No argument here, but I was more interested in finding out what was going on with deletions.  I guess not too many CoX players frequent this forum.

Anyway, if you guys want to talk about farming and PLing, go right ahead, but it's been covered to death on the regular forums.

One more thing before I head off to bed. Why are people surprised that characters the level pacted and never played until 50 have been deleted? Am I the only one who remembers what the level pact was meant to be used for?

aye the level pact......make an alt and never use it until the pact partner hits 50 thus you being 50.....that was not the purpose of the pact at all.  It was to promote teamwork with a pal and so you could level in tandem with each other.   I would guess they are looking at pacted toons and if one of them has never been logged in, yet shows as a 50 then they consider it candidate for deletion.

As to the "time to 50 formula"...well who knows what Posi is considering as an acceptable amount of time.  Posi has made it clear he can't/won't say what it is or else people will start using that to their advantage. Example: gaining 6 levels in an hour is bad. Then people set a timer and gain 6 levels in 5 hrs and 59 minutes.....thus being under the timer limit.....

Overall though I think the toons that were made DURING the launch of AE and the anniversary event are the ones that would be closely looked at and checked for massive AE PL'ing.

As for me, no characters deleted/reverted, however ALL my alts that I have made on ANY server, PREDATE ish 14 and the AE by varying time frames and were all well past level 1 when ISH 14 hit.  Some were and still are below level 10 since I haven't played those alts except for bringing them in every 21 days to park somewhere else for a day badge.

Some were in the 30's.   Some were in the 40's.  Many were already 50 and have been retired and pursuing dayjobs while I work the newer toons.   Now if some of my L30ish to L40ish toons finished their journey to 50 via the AE, then so what?   They were all in existence prior to AE,  and they certainly weren't dinging 50 in an hour.

Did I do anything wrong?  Not as far as I am concerned.  Did I author any of the "egregious farm missions"? Nope.    Heck I was even reporting some of the missions that were clearly exploiting certain things such as the "INSTANT WIN" missions, and many of the Rikti Comm farms since I knew they were against the AE and the rules.

Am I worried about losing any of my alts?  Nope.  Why? Simple.  I believe I am innocent and that Posi and his staff really need to look in the mirror to see the source of their recent AE woes.  Also if I lose any toons, they lose my money.

the level pact is so that if someone doesn't play, they can have free levels, instead of just side-kicking/lackeying.

anyone still paying for the game -- you're showing your support of customers being punished for devs working on a project for a year+ and those devs STILL effing up the project.

this is no better than when emmert was around.  and yes, i speak with my bank account and my show of support AGAINST BS like this on various forums.

if ncsoft and parent company  are having "money-issues"; alienating players is definitely not the way to keep people playing, or bring in new players.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

I cancelled my two accounts as well.  Yeah, there's no rational explanation except "we screwed up" for deleting any level pacted toons, unless the pact partner were PLed.  Even then, I disagree with deleting *any* toons in a retroactive punishment.  They should have fixed their own screw ups instead of punishing paying customers.

I PLed quite a few toons herding wolves back in the day, and none of those got deleted when they put a timer on the Shadowhunter mission.  Suddenly changing policy and deleting toons without any warning is shockingly stupid management of the situation.

The warning is in the EULA. They are allowed to take any action up to and including deletion of characters leveled through exploits and/or banning the account of the person taking advantage of the exploit.

They are also restoring the characters of the people that should not have lost them, apologising to them, and I heard they have credited those people with a free 30 days.

Sounds to me like they are taking care of it. If you still want to leave you should feel free. I guarantee most of us won't miss you.

Honestly, I'm still puzzled by reations like yours.  Your statement that I won't be missed makes it sound like you are emotionally invested in this situation.  Through this entire debacle, apologists for the developers have been up in arms against people who spoke up about what was going on, and I just don't get it.  Why do you guys care so much if a customer has a complaint?

The "it's in the EULA" is a tired, worn out argument at this point, and it wasn't particularly relevant to the current difficulties to begin with.  If you'd examine the situation with a detached, calm eye, weighing previous policy against what happened, you can't come up with a rational argument against people being unhappy with the actions of the developers.  In any case, I've said what I had to say, so enjoy the thread.

weird.... you won't miss him... does anyone notice you?   same thinking there.  unless you're a close buddy of mine - i don't care if you exist, is what you're saying.  grats.

the warning is in both my bank account and in the non-good-press the gaming company will receive every time they are mentioned... kinda like soe is spoken bad about, no matter the game.

exploits?   running missions repeatedly, in a "system" created by the devs, not using ANY 3rd party program.

quite honestly, i (and many others) believed that the dev team did this on purpose, in order to boost/retain subs.  there was no other reason, nothing a REASONABLE person would believe -- for the dev team to release this "system" onto the live servers KNOWING FULL WELL WHAT WOULD BE DONE WITH IT.

they can undelete every single character they've deleted... i will not, in any fashion, be addressed in such a way, as this arrogant dev team has addressed their playerbase, FOR THEIR OWN STUPIDITY.

oh we didn't think anyone would exploit THIS system, even though players have ALWAYS pushed every game feature to its limit since UO was first released.   so either the devs are stupid, or they're complete idiots.

Thasnks for the link I am getting a lot of entertainment out of that thread.

One more thing before I head off to bed. Why are people surprised that characters the level pacted and never played until 50 have been deleted? Am I the only one who remembers what the level pact was meant to be used for?

am i the only one that remembers winter lords being exploited and stuff like fire-tanks leveling people at crazy fast paces?

the level pact is so that if someone doesn't play, they can have free levels, instead of just side-kicking/lackeying.

anyone still paying for the game -- you're showing your support of customers being punished for devs working on a project for a year+ and those devs STILL effing up the project.

this is no better than when emmert was around.  and yes, i speak with my bank account and my show of support AGAINST BS like this on various forums.

if ncsoft and parent company  are having "money-issues"; alienating players is definitely not the way to keep people playing, or bring in new players.

I guarantee most of us won't miss you.

weird.... you won't miss him... does anyone notice you?   same thinking there.  unless you're a close buddy of mine - i don't care if you exist, is what you're saying.  grats.

the warning is in both my bank account and in the non-good-press the gaming company will receive every time they are mentioned... kinda like soe is spoken bad about, no matter the game.

exploits?   running missions repeatedly, in a "system" created by the devs, not using ANY 3rd party program.

quite honestly, i (and many others) believed that the dev team did this on purpose, in order to boost/retain subs.  there was no other reason, nothing a REASONABLE person would believe -- for the dev team to release this "system" onto the live servers KNOWING FULL WELL WHAT WOULD BE DONE WITH IT.

they can undelete every single character they've deleted... i will not, in any fashion, be addressed in such a way, as this arrogant dev team has addressed their playerbase, FOR THEIR OWN STUPIDITY.

oh we didn't think anyone would exploit THIS system, even though players have ALWAYS pushed every game feature to its limit since UO was first released.   so either the devs are stupid, or they're complete idiots.

my thoughts exactly damian. they unleashed this mission architect crap knowing full well that it would be abused. claiming otherwise tells me that they think we are all stupid. i stopped paying them after the enhancement diversification  crap they pushed on us.

So you are allowed to vent and throw a fit, but if I vent about all these stupid "I quit!!!" posts I'm wrong?

I'll be honest with you damian, I had nothing against you, you were a member of RO just like I was for a while. I figured you for a good guy who enjoyed the game. Now I see you are nothing but a whiney little bitch who just wants to run around crying that the big bad dev hurt your feelings. Grow the hell up man. You don't want to play anymore then fine, don't play. the majority of players are sick of listening to the crap spewing out of your's and other people mouths.

    Sincerly,

Mr. i dont give a shit if you stay or leave.

Doesn't matter how tired the "its in the EULA" might be to you. You play the game you agree to the EULA. You break the rules you get punished.

Emotionally invested? Not really. The only who seem emotionally invested are the ones screaming and crying that Posi hurt thier feelings. I'm still having fun in game so I'm still gonna play. Only partially emotional response I have is annoyance seeing the same 9 or 10 people saying that they are leaving. Leave if you want, how many times do you really have to tell us about it?

Apparently, one fewer times than you guys need to make a big melodramatic show about telling people to shut up and leave, as if you can physically hear our little posts on the internet.  Seriously, take a Mydol.  The cramps will pass.

Don't need any mydol. Remembered I can just ignore the biggest whiners. Makes things much more peaceful when I can't even see thier posts.

Here's a nicely put together explanation of the whole fiasco, for any who wander in here and wonder what all this was about.
