What's your favorite fictional universe?

ZindaihasZindaihas Member UncommonPosts: 3,662

There are many famous fictional worlds, too many to list them all in one poll.  But I will list the most famous ones I can think of.  Which one is your favorite?  Which one do you wish you could be part of the most?  And why do you like it so much?  Do you ever like to imagine you are in that universe?

I voted Norrath, because that is the first fictional world that really sucked me in. I'm talking Pre-Luclin days, when it was just Kunark and Velious however.

I remember my friend telling me about "The Sleeper", Kerafim I believe was his name. A mythical, unbeatable dragon that challenged many and where many failed at his feet.

I started playing a few days after that.

As far as entertainment value, I prefer the Witcher's world.  I like the dark humor and fantasy twists on a lot of real world issues (politics, racism, etc.). It's torture waiting for the books to be translated one by one, especially since Blood of Elves ended with such a cliffhanger.  The game also ties in very well with the books in regards to background lore and characters if you take time to explore.

Still, as far as real life, I'm just fine in our current universe.  I think it'd be a pain after 30 years of learning the rules of living in this world to start over somewhere else.

Oooh, hard to pick.  Easily a tie between the world of the Golden Compass, Middle Earth, and the Star Wars univerise.

post scarcity, mortality if you want it, every opportunity to be what you can be, the ship minds keep you interested without you loosing identity or self-respect. drug glands, ability to change your own sex.

really is the closest thing to a Utopia that i have read.

    Stargate...

If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen.

    Babylon 5.

The back story was great, politics, intrigue, conflict, among various races.

    Sci-Fi its definitely Star Wars.

Fantasy its the Discworld because of all of the zanny possibilities that you could do there. That or The Realms due to its sheer size and lore.

    That is a close tie.

I really like Brazil, created by Terry Gilliam

The world of Bioshock, The city in The City of Lost Children and Gotham City all are up there too.

Don't you worry little buddy. You're dealing with a man of honor. However, honor requires a higher percentage of profit

Star Wars wins hands down on this one due to three key factors.

One, there is more than just one world/planet. This shortens the list considerably.

Secondly, the average person has access to high-end tech. In Star Trek or Stargate only the military or governments really had the good stuff(personal ships and such). In Stargate, you would either be strictly regulated by the military or you'd be a part of a primitive society. There were a few examples of "Han Solo" knock offs in both Universes, but these were few and far between.

Lastly, the main populations of the Star Wars Universe more closely mirror ours as far as what motivates us and what we consider entertainment or pleasure.

Im thinking along the lines of the beginning of "The Ewok Adventure" when the family's personal shuttlecraft crashes on Endor. Just a family on a moving trip.

I think mine is a tie between Starwars or Warhammer 40k

Star wars because i love the story of how the jedi are all ways trying to be the saviors of the galaxie but most of the times they get turn on by the people they help. Also with all the star wars lore i'v read there just seems somthing romantic abought that Universe.

I also like the warhammer 40k verse because of The Violent dark nature of it

I going to have to go withs Star Wars to...but for me its different reasons, mainly a blaster at your side, the over whelming variety of girls!!!

Going from galaxy to galaxy,,,bounty hunters, smugglers, its just mimics the real world.and did mention the over whelming variety of girls...far more than Star trek.

Trade in material assumptions for spiritual facts and make permanent progress.
