A game better than most mmorpgs out there It is comming to the US and Europe!, Which side are you

As we all know Monster hunter series is one of those that just does not come to the US after the first one did very badly in the PS2. But capcom has decided to bring the Wii game Monster hunter 3 to the US!!! Anyone who is sick and tired of the level grind and traditional mmorpg feel should check out the monster hunter series.

For those of you who do not know what Monster hunter is. Picture a mmorpg, that is more lobby based. Now Picture the entire economy is non existent. You can't trade Money and most items are Event Quest or crafted. (This basically makes it untargetable by RMT). There are no levels and the entire game is based on your ability to dodge/attack and exploit mobs weak spots. A game with about enough content to keep most Hard core players busy for 4-6 months. Most casual players about a year.  It is also 100% free 2 play and has monthly  events.

This brings me to a second Question, Phantasy star Series or Monster Hunter series, Which side of the Online RPG are you in?

The original looked great at the time, I'm really sad I never got to try it.  but the whole system... it just seems more like dynasty warriors than a MMO.  not that either is bad, they are just very very different.  so saying its "better than most mmorpgs" is kind of, apples to oranges.

I think he means a system that most Core "Gamers" play not a casual family system.

Besides my PC wii is the only current Gen console I own. Main reasons and in this order, Zelda games, Metroid games, Rail shooter games.

I got it knowing it wouldnt have many "Gamer" games on it, but the ones that it does have are quite fun. I the system. With the new storage update Nintendo added to the Wii, adding an SD card I believe the capacity of the wii storage went from 512 to about 4.5Gigs. Not sure what the limit is but A game like Monster hunter on Wii with that storage as an option could actually have a lot more events, patches, and fixes than the other MH games. Im looking forward to it myself :D

Ah , is this a MMO or a single player game?

not sure about the new one coming out, but the original was a lobby game.  you group up and go into an instanced area, i guess more like GW than a normal MMO.

It is not an mmorpg its an Online Role playing game. Its lobby based. In MH3 the World will be much larger than in the other MH games. The areas you get to explore will be a lot more open and less linear. The hub towns have also said to be much larger this time around. But in General its an online Role playing game with a TON of stuff to do, hundreds of quests, Crafting, and everything you would expect from an mmorpg, except money is not tradeable you craft 60% of your own gear/ weapons. (Quest the rest)There are no levels and its all skill based. And There is no RMT because there are no levels, and gear is crafted by you and only equiped by you.

Its enough content to keep a person who plays 6-8 hours a day busy for a good 3-6 months depending on the person.

For me the first MH on ps2 was good enough to keep me busy for about 8 months before I felt I had done everything. Its an online Role playing game that does not update but has a TON of stuff to do from the start. It does get monthly events, which can be different things for special limited time items. Its the biggest online game in Japan, never caught on much in US or EU.

If I wanted to play an RPG, I get together with friends on weekends, I wouldn't really need do it online.  The reason I play MMORPG's are because they are MMORPG's.

imho, Monster Hunter has never matched Phantasy Star Online and Phantasy Star Universe, nor do I understand how you can claim it's better than most mmorpgs.

It's just a simple hack & slash game, nothing more. It's one of those games of which nobody understands why it's so popular in Japan, it's like Dynasty Warriors.

Loved Phantasy Star Online on my DreamCast.  Probably the first online game I really enjoyed, until the hacks came.  Now I need a bit more depth.   The concept of just grinding dungeons with friends for better gear with no other modes of play was great the first time around.  Not so great anymore.
