Can you "Refer-a-Friend" someone who already has a trial account?

I was just wondering how that works and if anyone has tried or done it. If I have a trial account, can someone use their refer-a-friend to give me 10 days and when I purchase the game and pay for a month, they get their free time? Here's basically what I'm wondering:
1. I have a 14-day trial
2. Would get referral for 10 days
3. Buying the game and subscribing
4. Referrer gets their free month
Workable?

You can not add the refer a friend to a trial account. You either get a trial account or the refer a friend then upgrade by buying the game.
Ok, then I'll probably have someone refer me on a new account when I'm done trying out some different characters on my trial account. I'll only lose a few low-level characters.
