KingsIsle Entertainment has announced that Wizard101, their kid friendly MMO set in a wizard school, have announced that over 2 million unique users have signed on to play the game along with their announcement of their new gift card program.

Plano, Texas - April 30, 2009 - Online entertainment company KingsIsle Entertainment, Inc. has announced a gift card program for family-friendly hit game Wizard101® (www.wizard101.com), which recently surpassed two million unique users who have registered to play the game.

Starting today, $10 prepaid Wizard101 gift cards are available in 7-Eleven® stores nationwide. Purchasing through local outlets offers friends, family and fans of the 3D virtual world of Wizards and spell-casting more options for unlocking advanced game content.

"Wizard101 gift cards give our growing community more flexibility and parental control in their purchases - beginning with a way to purchase advanced game content in a store," said KingsIsle CEO Elie Akilian.

The $10 price point makes Wizard101 gift cards an affordable birthday gift, allowance treat, or a fun surprise for the in-game pet collector. With the new gift cards, players who don't have a credit card will have more independence in the way they spend small increments in the game, whether they decide to unlock new areas of the game or purchase equipment and accessories for their Wizard101 characters, such as wands, treasure cards and holiday items.

2 million unique users! Well done Kings Isle

How many of them are paying subscribers, we prolly won't know, but this dove tails with the free 2 play model video that is highlighted on this home page.  They had some TV spots on cartoon channels and some internet marketing, but they certainly didn't have a massive marketing giant like EA sending correspondents across the globe and what not.

I bet WAR would kill for 2 million users..

Casual style, free to play with microtransactions is intriguing.

Oh wake up, they don't have 2 million users.  How can anyone be so ignorant?  All these f2p games count everyone that even thought of looking at or downloading the game as a user, even the persons who signed up and never downloaded it.

They probably have well over 100,000 concurrent users, but all you will hear from them is the absurd 2 million number.

You're like a broken record, since you're pretty much repeating the disgust you expressed when the 1 million player milestone was announced just over 2 months ago.  Regardless how many of those accounts have actually played the game, much less paid any money for it, it's a good indicator of overall interest in the game and I'd say interest is rising, given that it took several months to reach 1 million, but only two to gain another million.  KingsIsle is definitely doing something right.

Whether or not the 2 million count is for paid players, or even active players, is irrelevant.

    Kudos to KingsIsle!
