"The Windows 7 Starter Edition will have limitations on how many applications can be used concurrently on a machine in order to preserve performance. "
_________
Why is it that each new operating system has to be worse than the previous one? Now they are putting hard caps on quantity of apps you can run, you know, "to preserve performance". Gee thanks! I always wanted someone to limit my ability to use my computer. This is the OS i've been waiting for!

Talk about ignorant. Start edition is for third world countries that will likely be using computers that make netbooks look like speed demons. Try getting the information right or spreading BS somewhere else

I've displayed no ignorance. Go ahead and insult me if you must. The fact remains that the trend of new operating systems is to limit your ability to use your computer more and more.

how is limiting a version that won't even be sold at retail doing that. I can't tell if your trying to troll or just make yourself sound stupid

The point is, why bother putting hard cap on the quantity of applications one could run? When my machine slows down because I have too many large apps running, I know to close something. But now MS is going to just prevent me from opening the apps in the first place. And thats not significant? Email or browser, take your pick. Photoshop or FCP, you can only use one.
Apparently windows OS has been perfected some time ago and now there's nothing left to do but limit your ability to use it. Now thats progress!
Oh no! The user is opening ten versions of a 1 meg program! Quick! Stop them! "Please update to more expnsive version in order to proceed".

I've just been using this emote lately instead addressing asinine posts. Saves time on typing.

I doubt anyone with starter edition is going to be doing much multitasking. You can only open facebook in so many windows before you get lost within them.
The Official God FAQ
"Windows XP Starter Edition is a lower-cost edition of Windows XP available in Thailand, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, Russia, India, Colombia, Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Mexico, Ecuador, Uruguay and Venezuela. It is similar to Windows XP Home, but is limited to low-end hardware, can only run 3 programs at a time, and has some other features either removed or disabled by default. Each country's edition is also customized for that country, including desktop backgrounds of popular locations, localized help features for those who may not speak English, and other default settings designed for easier use than typical Windows XP installations. The Malaysian version, for example, contains a desktop background of the Kuala Lumpur skyline." - Windows Wiki
They've only been doing this since Windows 98 so how is this new? As the above states it's a cheaper, low overhead version of Windows to run on lower end computers in developing countries. As the above posters have stated... You may want to go get some facts before you make an ass out of yourself on an Internet forum.

No. If you want to understand, then you go figure it out. Nobody is going to spoon feed you with knowledge just beacuse you're too lazy to learn.

Well that's a reasonable response.
Step one: Assert fact, give evidence.
Step two: Have evidence disproved en masse, cede point but still assert fact.
Step three: When asked for new evidence in absence of prior, claim inquiring guy doesn't understand and insult him for good measure.
It was you who decided to start a thread and impose things as fact, buddy. I asked a very plain question; if you can't explain what you mean then don't say anything. It's not like I asked you to prove there's life beyond Earth in the universe.

In this case though, you've only been proven wrong by people who actually HAVE done their research...you're the one who doesn't seem to understand what's going on.
Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.
Here is what you do when you say something really inane and want to be graceful about it:
Oh. I see. My bad. Guess I misunderstood. Thanks for straightening me out on that.
Of course, doing that requires a bit of class and admitting you misunderstood something.
As for the topic: Oh, gosh. Why would MS limit apps in use on a grossly underpowered PC? I have no idea. It couldn't be to prevent it from locking up or something similarly bad. Nope.
This is too sad even to be called FUD.
Insane prediction: Windows 8 will not allow you to use it at all. Direct eye contact with the NSA camera will result in an unlimited prison term.
All I did was link to the article and quote about Windows 7. Some people are so in denial that they can't accept reality. MS is not trying to hide this fact about the built in limitations designed to keep you from multitasking.

Yet, after everyone has explained where and WHY the limitations are being put in place, you still attempt to argue your point. Maybe you're the one stuck in denial?
