General: Petroglyph Developing New MMORTS

Trion and Petroglyph have announced that they have partnered to develop an as of yet unnamed MMORTS using technology developed by Trion.

Redwood City, CA April 27 -Trion World Network, Inc. (Trion), the publisher and developer of server-based dynamic online games and connected entertainment, is expanding its portfolio with an innovative project, developed by the award winning, independent game development studio, Petroglyph. The companies are creating a massively multiplayer online real-time strategy (MMORTS) game, set to define a new genre and standard for online games. Petroglyph is utilizing Trion's advanced server architecture, designed to enable massive scalability, dynamic content evolution and cross platform development, to create an epic gaming experience. The game represents the first 3rd-party development on the Trion Platform, and will be published by Trion worldwide.

"Trion is thrilled to partner with such decorated and extremely talented game vets as the Petroglyph team," said Lars Buttler, co-founder and CEO, Trion. "We are very excited about bringing the world's first truly high-end MMORTS to market and we can't wait to share with gamers the innovative and fun game design Petroglyph is creating on the Trion platform."

    I personally don't like announcments like this as they always sound like marketing speak without any substance.

     

    Can someone actually point me to a finished game? Or anything other than:

     

    Trion World Network, Inc. (Trion), the publisher and developer of connected games and entertainment, has announced their first title, a fantasy-themed massively multiplayer online role-playing game. Jon Van Caneghem, Computer Gaming Hall of Fame member best known for creating the long running RPG and strategy franchises Might and Magic and Heroes, is the creative force behind the project currently being developed internally at Trion's Redwood City studio. The game represents the initial first-party title on the Trion Platform, and will be published by Trion in both North America and Europe.

    Gamers will enter a seamless, persistent fantasy world, where they will significantly affect the gameplay experience through dynamic events. Battles of enormous scale will create epic moments that an unprecedented number of players can participate in. All of this will be powered by Trion's revolutionary server-based architecture, which is uniquely designed to enable massive scalability, dynamic content evolution, and cross platform development.

     

    I mean, "great", more power to them but this type of stuff has all been said before. Show us something that means something. I would much rather wait and see an announcement that says

(Trion), the publisher and developer of connected games and entertainment, is proud to present (name x), a  revolutionary mmo that is set to redefine the genre by incorporating x and y and giving players an unprecedented gaming experience by introducing y and z. Below we have included in game movies that demonstrate Trion's revolutionalry technology and artistry. Please visit www. trion.com and see our gallery of screeshots and concept art as well as an outline of classes, races and the history of our world.

    Otherwise it all just seems like marketing speak where we will have to wait for a long time to see if they can make it long enough to present us with anything of substance or will they go the way of so many other want to be game makers.
