Would you still be interested in this game if it wasn't Star Wars and not made by Bioware?

So, all pre-conceived biases aside, based solely on screenshots and game description, would you be interested in this game not knowing the IP and not knowing who was making it?

Well It's hard to just throw those two factors aside, we are talking Star Wars and Bioware here, not the Toxic Avenger and John Doe Developers. I mean anyone saying that the developer and the IP have absolutely no impact what so ever on their lvl of interest concerning this game is likely to be lying.  That being said, I think you asked a question with a pretty obvious answer for a reason.  I can assume that you as well as a lot of others feel that a story driven game won't scale well in the MMO genre and in fact that's pretty much makes it a massive online single player game.  The MMO scene is already oversaturated with enough of those games and you are probably thinking TOR is just going to follow suit and we the crazed Star Wars and Bioware fanatics are just going to follow suit and blindly purchase the game just because of those two factors.

The truthful answer Abrahmm is yes.  Star Wars is just huge enough and Bioware has earned a good enough reputation that some people will purchase the game solely based on their involvement.  Will it be a mistake, will they end up disappointed who knows, maybe.  If you liked the KOTOR series chances are you'll find plenty to like in this game. If anyone is to be trusted to bring something new and exciting to a story driven MMO it would most likely be Bioware.  I mean with all the fly by night, untrustworthy, and outright greedy companies that litter the MMO market with piss poor WoW clones and other garbage, I for one am willing to give this game a chance.  I will still follow it closely and see how things develop, but barring anything crazy such as Orcs or Hobbits becoming jedi knights, I will purchase this game.  Sometimes reputation is enough as well as it should be.  As long as a developer works hard to put out fun, intruiging and enjoyable games that suits my liking I'll support them with my dollar and once they stop, then I won't.

At this point, I think it's much too early to recommend or to condemn this game.  There are always people who are impulsive buyers and people who do their research before a purchase.  There are people who will buy something or support companies who make products they enjoy.  So I think it's too early to say whether the majority of people will just blindly purchase the game because of the IP.  It probably would have been better to ask this question like 4 or 5 months down the road when we know more about the game.  Right now it could come off as subtle trolling.  Not that I think you are or anything.

I answered yes but the only problem with this poll is most of us have followed bio wares attempt at entering the mmo market for much longer than we knew it would be star wars and even from the screenshots it's hard not to think "star wars" or it would have been hard for the company to not get sued by LA if it wasn't star wars

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....

im almost turned off that its bioware making the game.  they are AMAZING RPG developers.. but im afraid they will be bringing that to the MMO genre in a bad way for some reason.  i dunno, they are an amazing company, i just worry they might try a bit TOO hard with the story line and such... hard to explain

The question just doesn't make any sense to me.. If it isn't star wars, then that means it's something else, and you really need to define what that something else is, I need to know what the games content is made up of, and as for who is making it; it doesn't really matter to me who is making, as long as it's not a chinese, Korean, or new to the grinder scene, German, game.

If it has similar content as SW KOTOR, then I'd say there'd still be a lot of people willing to give it a shot.

Why?Because he asked a question that doesn't invite a flame war?Or maybe it's because he asked a question that required you to use your brain.

Well thought out post and a good question, after some thought I think the fact that it is in fact a sci fi mmo would attract me to it because I'm really burning for a good sci fi mmo and SG whatever it's called isn't doing it for me I tried starquest and couldn't get into it though it does seem like it could be a cool game and I'm not too into the concept of EVE I'm kind of turned off nwadays by hardcore games.

We already dont know much. Take away IP you take away information about the setting in which the game takes place. Take away Bioware, you take away their characteristics and everything they told us about the game.

So, basically you ask if you would like a game without getting informed and solely based on some screenshots?

I miss the option 'I wouldnt have enough information to form an opinion'

This poll is a joke lol.

The question is meaningless. He rips away all information about the game that we have atm and then ask if we would like that game that we dont know anything about. That is just stupid.

Thats like saying "Oh someone out there is creating a game, do you like that game?"

I'm saying, based on current screenshots(to determine graphical style), and current gameplay descriptions(claiming it is story driven), would you still be interested in this game if it was the Star Wars IP, and wasn't made by Bioware. Basically I'm trying to see if this game is as hyped and popular because of it's IP and maker or the merits of the gameplay. I have a strong feeling that the IP and maker are going to carry this game to success, no matter how good or bad the actual game is.

The current game description is typical Bioware in the way they emphasize on story arcs. Taking away the IP takes away a lot more information then just a name. How can storydriven have any meaning if you take away IP (setting) and creator (style) ?

And anyone who forms his opinion about liking a game or not just based on screenshots is plain stupid.

To answer the original question, I would be interested given what they've said about emphasizing story.  I doubt they can pull it off in an mmo, but I would be curious to see the attempt regardless of IP/developer.

As far as stripping away the Star Wars, frankly the game wouldn't be getting made if it weren't for the IP.  Bioware has a good track record and some weight with hardcore gaming fans, but to the average gamer  they aren't a household name.

Also, it was proven by the SW prequels (as well as the slew of horrid SW console games in the late 90s and early 2000s) that SW fans have extremely low expectations, and are basically incapable of refraining from buying anything featuring a lightsaber.   A developer could code a game featuring poo-flinging chimpanzee pornography, stamp a SW/Lucasarts logo on the box, and fans would line up around the block to throw their money at it.

Star Wars= Best Sci Fi story ever, and top 5 stories ever.

Bioware= best story writing company and very good games. They seriously havent released a bad game.

Taking the two best elements away its just Earthrise..........

If the game is bad it won't be successful. Good advertising and reputation only brings people to the party, it doesn't convince them to stay.A bad game doesn't get popular. I don't see how anyone could possibly believe that a bad game can be carried by IP and company reputation alone. Surely SWG taught us that lesson.

To answer question, yes, I'm interested in the game because of the IP. I'm a Star Wars fan and I hope that I get a better feeling of being in that universe than I got the last time the IP was attempted for a MMORPG.

Frankly I'm highly offended by the end of this post for a couple of reasons.  The simplest being that I am a diehard Star Wars fan, and I refuse with any game star wars or not, to just blindly run out and purchase without any detail, and in most cases a demo/rental.  I will admit that I've played some horrid SW/LA Games, but if you look at those same games their sales reflect their quality.  As with any individual IP with a large fan base there will always be individuals that will buy anything with it's name on it, otherwise things like LotR Online and WoW never would have made it off the ground.  Too Imply that Star wars fans are frivolously purchasing all things Star Wars despite quality is to put it plainly offensive to most true fans.

Secondly, I'm actually quite tired of hearing people Bash the Prequals, when the standing issue with them usually stands around in one way or another the retarded nature of Jar-Jar Binks, and Anakin as a child.  So I say to all who believe the prequals are this horrible excuse for a movie trilogy that you believe, think about what it is you don't like about them, pull them out, pick them up whatever you must do, make every attempt to ignore which part it is that truly makes them horrible to you, and see how you feel about the actual stories of them, not just the few characters that cause issues.  I personally find episode 3 to be one of the best movies of all time, it's epic it details the fall of a hero to become one of the greatest villains of all time, has probably the best Melee Duel of any movie I've ever seen, and has just enough Good/Evil in it to give it true drama to boost.

Sorry I just had to rant there, no offense to veritas personally just been a gorilla on my back for a while.

Is this really the community that consider them selfs hardcore MMO players?  Its a simple question.

    IS THIS GAME ALL HYPE!

Is basically what it comes down to.  Is it just because of the Star Wars IP, and because Bioware has a good reputaion for games that its receving good hype?

    Well easy answer hell yea.

This game with its horrible graphic style would go no where unless it had a good IP and good developer.

Think any other game thats come out recently that has cartoony graphics.  Look at all the F2P games out there that have cartoony graphics and unknown developers.

This game would be almost just as known as most the other MMO's if it did not have a solid IP or solid developing team.

What is sad is that it will be heavily instanced and very linear.

    This is funny..

So let me get this right..  Would I be excited about this game if it didn't involve Star Wars or Bioware? hmmmm  Who knows!!..  That is like asking me if I would be interested in a 3some date if it didn't include Megan Fox and Shania Twain.. LOL.. But to help ya a lil bit.. I have gone to Cleveland Indian games in the 70's and enjoyed them (even when they suck suck suck)  I'm basically excited that this is a Sci Fi game that isnt' Eve.. But I still haven't read enough about the game to make an informed decision.. I just hope it's not as broken as SWG was.. LOL

Oh come on. Who needs to know the lore, the combat system, the UI, the economy, the politics, and all that other stuff when you have screenshots? ;)

I chose "No, not at all". If this game wasn't skinned and packaged as Star Wars, I would just chalk it up to being another WoW clone. But the simple fact of the matter remains that SW sells anything basically. Look at SWG. Pre-CU and NGE, it's subscription base was based more on it being Star Wars than it was as a game. I liked Pre-CU SWG, but to say it was a great game solely on its own merit would be a stretch. Though I could be wrong, as if this were the case, it would still be going strong.
