Holy christ, the most epic PvP battle of my life

KasmosKasmos Member UncommonPosts: 593

So tonight has officially defined my gaming career. Tonight, I was lucky enough to be a part of the most epic PvP battle I have ever been a part of. In all honesty, it may be the biggest PvP battle of the Darkfall server so far since release (because I haven't heard of anything bigger yet this early on in the game).

Anyway, our guild rubbed another guild the wrong way (probably because we attacked their "neutral" city), and in retaliation, 30 minutes later we were faced with two separate guilds, working together, attacking our base of operations.

We had 45+ people at the location of the battle, and they had around 50+ people. I'd say there was at least 95, more realistically over a 100 people, all fighitng at the same time on the same general battlefield.

Imagine looking in front of you, seeing 30+ of your guildmates charging forward, and seeing arrows and mana missles reigning down on everyone from all directions. When you finally collide with players and engage in melee combat, it's as hectic as it feels when you watch movies like Braveheart.

All in all, this was the most incredible battle I've been in in a very, very long time, and looking back through my MMO career, I may not have a more enjoyable experience I can relate too. No drop in FPS (which surprised the hell out of me), and even more surprisingly, no increase in ping to the server. I was able to see almost a hundred people, on screen, at the same time, engaging in bloody, violent battle, for over 45 minutes, with no performance hits. We'd push them back away from our stronghold, and they'd in return eventually start pushing us back as well. This "tug of war" lasted for quite some time, before it was obvious neither of us would be able to get the upper hand on the other unless the battle was to reign on for many more hours.

Anyway, I'm drunk as shit right now and need to sleep, but I wanted to let you guys know that depsite what you may have heard from "people who have played Darkfall", this engine can certainly handle massive PvP battles without hurting the game's performance.

Ask any questions you want, I'll answer them in the morning.

Sounds Fun. Like the rushes I had playing in the early days of Planetside where you had 200+ army coming at the bridge or the base you were holding with 200+ others, all a mix of soldiers on foot and vehicles and aircraft. It sounds as those who enjoyed Planetside and like RPG too would like the battles in DF with it's scale and real time twitch combat.

Sorry... but I wasn't prepared to "fraps" the event when it happened. It all happened very quickly, and our vent was a disarray of people scrambling to get ready for battle.

As for screenshots, for some reason since the latest Windows 7 beta patch, everytime I "printscreen", the image copied is a all black and nothing more.

But, if you don't believe me, ask any Murder Herder what kind of battle happened last night. Unless you're dead-set on not believing me and think I've brainwashed my fellow guildmates, they'll let you know (if they were in game) of the battle that occured.

Definetly, as a br 18 cr 3 Vanu I can vouch for that.

Feels alot like Planetside in big battles, but without the lag.

    Argh!

I missing out all this because of not getting a copy

From the small battles i had in beta, i know the OP must had a hundred times more fun them i had

I love these big battles from earlier games and i look forward to my first 100+ battle.

We had a little incident yesterday with our neibhor city, 6 of them tryed to PK couple of our guys but they ran back to our city, As soon they reached us 8 of our guys went to hunt them and chased them back to their city. As to show that we do not accept this kinda behavior we reigned down on their city and killed about 10 of their members in the city and we did it more than ones... So now we are at war with our neibhoring city how sweet is that, politics is a important aspect to survive in this game or just plain show of force.

Since our guildcity was formed i havent been in a NPC city, this aspect is the best feature of the game.. I dont have to hang at the AH like in every other damn game....

This game is the best MMORPG ever released, It still has minor flaws but the important things do work and the game is playble with a rocksolid client and server.

I hope you guys that whant to play the game get your chance soon, If you will like i cant promise, But i love this game.

    Stop the crapola will you?

I can agree that the characters, the spell effects and the animations aren't top notch, but there are only 2 games out currently that can compare with DF in a better way, and these are AoC and Lotro and I currently play them both at max settings. AoC looks better (but only supports 48 players max in a zone/instance - forget an open world like DF, and 48x2=96 players max in sieges instances - of course they remove the NPCs there); lotro looks as good with maybe some more detail. As far as I can see everything else looks worse.

DF has it's very own identity with some gorgeous "mature" looking world design (as opposed to cartoons). I love it.

This certainly doesn't look outdated to me

PvP battles + Alcohol= always fun

No offence but cannot take you too serious, but I do not doubt how fun it was.  Drunken darkfall fights have a certain appeal to me.

    My opinion matters to everyone...

Someone actually trying to argue that DF has current graphics?! Now I HAVE seen it all. Just curious, but what have you been playing the last 10 years?

Graphics aside, the game does sound like it could be a lot of fun though. And I'm glad to see the graphics have improved, but I think that claiming only 2 MMOs have better graphics is a bit of a stretch.

my friend was in beta and he played on max graphics. yea they arent terrible....for 01 they aren't up to par with current tech.

I actually find the graphics very good. The animations can be a little funny at times, however.

    Stop posting BS will you?

I have posted information with examples and a video to sustain my post. You have posted NOTHING. This is called trolling, so you can stop trolling right now.

Want to talk about the other mmorpgs besides AoC and Lotro? Ok, the next in my opinion will be Vanguard. Unfortunately after 2 years Vanguard's engine still is only 50% complete. VG was supposed to be a 2007 game but it doesn't even have world object shadows (character and tress have a shadow, but nothing else in the world - buildings, hills, fences, objects, inside lightning,.... NOTHING has a shadow). It looks good at night, but during daytime it looks so fake when the sun is high that it makes it look straight out crap. And to this the lack of water reflections and animations that are as bad as DF's....

Other games? Well, that's is unfortunately. There is nothing else with such a beautiful lush vegetation with grass, gorgeous shadows, etc... all of the other games are using older feature lacking engines.

Still waiting on you telling me about that game that supports 100+ players on screen with better graphics

But I guess this is the thread for you: WoW is just the best looking mmorpg to date.  Everyone in that thread will agree with you, you'll feel at home.

Ah nice. One more guy who knows nothing. Sorry to see you haven't played the game.

FYI not all of the gfx options were available in beta.

Bigmango, I was in beta. That vid does nothing but show the world. I can tell you the world can look nice but everything else is sub par. OP. I guess you never played DAOC, because that happened hourly when it was in it s prime. Hell I m seeing that daily in my game now. The difference is these other games have something to do after the fight not just farm and  pk all day.

Yes, if you completely forget about Aion for example, then you are correct.

Funny that you should point him to the WoW thread though, since the WoTLK environment graphics are indeed on par with DF (if not better). Or would you think it's fair to compare DF to the 5 year old WoW areas?

The new WoW areas actually match all that I just quoted you on. Lush vegetation with grass, gorgeous shadows thanks to the uplifted engine.

But it's okay, just keep living in the past. If that is the way to enjoy Darkfall best.

Yes I know. The most important for me is the world (still needs to get populated though); I hope they'll find a way to improve the characters and animations.

I realize its a slight bit off topic, but Is this to say that folks that enjoyed/enjoy planetside will likely enjoy DF?

im another one of those "on the fence" folks at the moment (due to both positive and negative comments ive read) and wondering how closely the game resembles Planetside in terms of combat and overall "feeling".

I was talking about current mmos.

AFAIK Aion is not release here yet. They will release it for us in Q4 2009, and I'm as much interested in moving to Korea (need local phone number with ID to subscribe) than I'm interested in moving to the moon to play a game.

Try to read and understand properly before posting, it will make everything easier.

The reason why I send him to a WoW thread is *precisely" because all of the other mmos are older with older engines. But I guess you didn't get this, did you?

No no and no. I loved PS and hated DFO. So not all that liked PS will like this.
