Its been some time now that I posted on this game, which is a dream to me and started a thread on how it would be great to have crews on ships ect. I now come back and find that everyone is fighting over this and has gotten pretty big now. So let me put this post here to try to end this whole crew, captain, no interior issue if I can.
1. Advice to STO:
When I posted I really had a dream inside me for ages on a mmorpg outlined in my first post, which is grps of people which make up the bridge. Felt was the whole drama engagment of Star Trek that me and alot of other fans really like outta Star Trek movies ect. If its not capable of doing this, say it to the community if you havent already, and maybe what youll do along those lines. One can only do what the money budget and game engine can allow. But think about the idea and how much money and demand for that kinda Star Trek game will be and maybe annouce any future modifications you may do to meet that kinda demand if unable to in this game. Star Trek should put a game like this into play if not now but someday, I think there is a great fear in the fan base that if this game doesnt have all these elements that, me for one also, that there will never be a online game realsed with this kind of playstyle. I must note that you seem to have masterd the away missions and outside of the ship and it looks truley amazing, which is better visually then most I've seen. Maybe if you were to add some examples of the role playing that will be going on in the game this will also be great. On that I want to say thanks for coming out with a game with two elements of Star Trek that will be fun for alot of players who might have played previous ship games and if the rpg on way missions are great also, will be a great addition.
2. Advice to disapointed Star Trek players
This game is what it is and we still will have the hearts and dreams of a full ship crew based grp system. who knows for single players not grped can have shuttles to explore with undetected or other would be alot of fun. Many things we want we might not have till 2020+ gaming, which isnt too far to wait and someday it might be great, we who have wanted a rpg like I outlined in my original post months ago have surley outspoken themselfs in these posts and is great that you did, it shows there is a player based that is into this type of mmorpg, and hopefully they will someday put it in due to the outcry of this type of mmorpg. What I dont like to see though is the dividing of ourselfs as Star Trek fans over things we want sooo much that we down each other. We all feel pasionatly about Star Trek and should just hold onto our hats and wait, which is as I already know is a hard thing to do even after 10 years. If ya truely love Star Trek give this game a chance and who knows might have more fun then you thought. I know I will regaurdless, and hope my other fellow fans do too. On that thanks for being a strong voice on my vision of a mmorpg for the future it makes me not feel so alone in the universe.
3. Advice to those energized players.
This game is looks great and I have no doubt that even the disapointed people will enjoy it. The reason is most of us, I beleive, are the type of people that emerse themselfs in the social interaction of the bridge and decisions that go on in it and stuff such as that, in each of our own way wish we were these people and can experiance the same interactions as each characters role on the bridge in the Star Trek series. This game does not offer that, and thus will need to be hoped for in a future game, which most of us fear may never come. But are hopeful and vocal because we do want that someday. I really want them to play this game also, even if it doesnt offer it, and hope that someday thier and my wait is worth it and we can all look back and wonder why we even fussed over all this. This game I beleive isnt everything that everyone will want and offers what I see will be probably the best ship based game and surface game anyone can hope for and for that, I will play this game. Please be nice to other people who's dreams havent come true this time around. And hope to see you all in the game.

No there has never been a "player base" shown for that type of game. All there's ever been is a mere handful of people, and for a mmorpg, a handful just doesn't cut it.. A mmorpg can't survive with the couple of thousand people that participate in Star Trek sim groups. That's the fact of it. Repeating something over and over doesn't make it true mate. The evidence would, and there's simply no evidence that there's enough of a desire for player crews anywhere out there.
Also, please quit with the inferences that because there's no player crews the game won't have grouping in space content. Players will still be grouping in spades out in space, with plenty to do. The difference from wht you want being that EVERY player will be able to have a fun and exciting experience. Not just the one captain having a fun and exciting experience with 5 or 6 subordinates stuck watching a meter bar going up and down.
Man, just imagine how horrible player crews would be. Log into the game, get your bearings, look for a group, and get stuck playing a crew member under some 12 year old kid yelling at everyone, or some egomaniac doing the same thing, and having no option because you're stuck on this person's ship for who knows how long.

This is pretty much why crew run ships would never, ever, ever, ever work.
It's a nifty idea, I get it. However what some of folks can't get through their heads is 1) Its a tv show or a movie. They have scripts they follow. And number 2) Its a fictional representation of a military organization. Not sure if you have been in, or ever known someone in the military, but it is only through that sort of training that you are going to get a crew aboard a vessel that are all competent at what htey do. Finally I am pretty sure that a good number of gamers are not going to find it entertaining to do nothing but monitor and adjust the warp fields. I know I sure as hell wont lol

Well said. I'm not going to pay money every month to take orders from some flunky who wouldn't make it out of real life basic training. Hence why I rarely join guilds because you always have someone in the hierachy who likes to power trip. We already tried those force group type games and they didn't work. No gaming company is going to sink millions into a game that most won't play. Hence why you are seeing more options in MMos nowadays, because it appeals to a broader base of people. The days of the massive online simulator are over. Get used to it.
My advice for those not happy with the direction the game is to take a look at the TONS of MMO options that are available right now. If you can't find something to like after looking at all that then there is no pleasing you.
Currently Playing: World of Warcraft
what concerns me most is the direction of p3 had was a geared up mmo and cryptic seems to be going the way of all the other startrek games where you control your ship and dog it out Star Trek: Armada style
which for me will put me off and not be buying the game....
Having said that i hold hopes that it might even achieve my expectations and be playable
I imagine the fighting to be much like Starfleet Command III personally.
I made a joke thread of "To Captain or not to Captain" and i stated that if i had my choice i would love to be Chief Medical Officer and i stand by that....if i was playing with friends only and never, ever had to LFG.
Being captain to me is just fine if i have no choice, because almost every single Star Trek game ever released besides the FPS and that dreadful Q online card game that laster all of five minutes, you're always the Captain.
As Chief medical Officer on a ship with a crew that knew what it was really doing out there my toon would probably looking out some window or getting hammered in ten-forward until they either:
A: Went on an away mission
B: Got involved in a ship-to-ship skirmish
"Well that's the point of online games dude, you fight and explore" is what i hear as people read this, and they would be right....but what about when that ship you're serving on has a cloaking device and doing nothing but fetch-and-carry missions; unless your a captain or helmsman your going to get bored real quick.
The decision is the right one because it's been proven both online and off to work, everybody want to be something grand and you can't get to much grander than captain, look at what people list off when they say "i don't want to be Captain, i'd rather be..." and you'll see what i mean...Chief medical, Chief Engineer, Head of Security....nobody EVER says "I want to be the guy who cleans out the Waste Reclamation Units"
I don't want to be captain.
Frankly, its no harder to program a crew based STO than a single player based STO and the fewer amount of ships would REDUCE server strain and lag. These guys are too lazy to make the game we want and they're not going to get a penny from a large portion of their fanbase until they get their act together and stop making excuses for making tabula rasa 2.

Note: PlayNC will refuse to allow you access to your account if you forget your password and can't provide a scanned image of the product key for the first product you purchased..... LOL
Yes, except the number of people that would want to play as anything other than aa captain of their own shiip would be so small the game wouldn't make it past the first free month. You know that, I know that, and everyone else knows that. All this is just people talking of their a.... ummm hats. That's all it is. It's simply unrealistic to think that making the MMO where most players are FORCED to be under the command of others is possible.
This is starting to look more and more like people from other games that may be in competition with STO that are just looking to drum up a negative atmosphere, because it's just not making sense.
Furthermore, just what are all these crew members supposed to be doing? You say it's easy, then you tell us what kind of exciting game play you can offer all the crew. What, you're going to have "stand there and look menacing" skills for security officers? "keep pointy thing on meter within parameters" skill for science officers? C'mon, think before typing stuff like this out. Player crews make absolutely no sense in a game such as this.
