I spent most of the day, yesterday, playing Darkfall.
Initially, prior to the first server shutdown, around noon CET, the game seemed to be running very well. Later in the afternoon, I was beset by a horrible desynch, which I hope the devs can sort out today.
The desynch issue, being as it was, made killing the goblins impossible for me, so I decided to just go out and see the world a bit, as my own client was running very well, about a 40-60ms ping, despite the desynch issue.
I headed out and wandered for about two hours. The devs have done a very nice job with the game world, as I encountered quite a number of very impressive vistas during my journey.
Anyway, I stumbled across a group of players killing a troll in some ruins. Being that I was naked, (this, as a result of going rogue due to the desynch and getting wtfpwned by the guard towers...lol, though I did grab a flimsy shield out of my bank before heading out), I decided to go see if I could ninja up some loot.
As I approached the group, they had just downed the troll and the tombstone popped up. I quickly ninjad some sulfer.
No sooner had I done so when one of the group decided that it may have been inappropriate for me to ninja the loot from their kill and starts attacking me.
Truth be told, he was a bit foolish due to the fact that he already had low health and stamina. So we start fighting, (btw, use block, it works.. ) and I quickly kill him, well he drops, but before I could gank him his buddies start to attack me as well.
Needless to say, I didn't want to lose my flimsy shield and sulfer, as that is all I had, so I ran away.
I finally got back to my starting area, (I could not figure out how to zoom the map, I actually believe that you can't though I am not sure, so always make sure you know where you are before you leave to where you are going... ). Seeing that the desynch issue had not been resolved, I decided to try my luck at harvesting.
That went ok, as I ended up wth 2 steed grass after about an hour and about 26 skill.
Hopefully the devs can, indeed, sort out the desynch issue soon.
Bottom line is that I am really enjoying the game, so far.
Comments
Im having a great time also, despite the synch issue. Ive been mining and doing some exploring instead...amazing world...its so unique, u gotta play it urself. Before game released i saw many screenshots, and i thought the graphics were mediocre. Now when running 1920x1080 im completly blown away. The world is simply amazing. But u got to get used to the UI first...can be frustrating at first . Nothing is easy in this game, i love it.
Indeed. The graphics are very nice overall. The characters are a bit generic with some funny animations, but that kinda stuff is secondary, imo.
Any word on the desynch issue? I sure hope they can sort that out before I log back in, this evening.
user friendly interfaces have nothing to do game difficulty. With that logic you could say they want high latancy ingame because that makes pvp fights harder. The UI is there to help the player play the game. There is no excuse for poorly implemented UIs.
Thanks for the info Robertb, I have been watching some of these threads to try to glean what is going on, and if I will eventually get involved with this game. Frankly alot of what I have seen here so far has been negative, and or overly dramatic. Kind of hard to discipher whats really underneath all that lol.
I currently play another sandbox game that has been around for a long time (5 years) and am interested in what a "new age" sandbox game would bring to the table.

Actually, the UI works pretty well, once you get the hang of it.
Just remember, mob goes down, click r,f and then quickly; left click, drag and drop...lol.
I come from EVE, so yea, I was excited about a new sandbox.
The basic foundation for a very nice game seems to be in place. Let's see what the devs can do with it.
As far as the some of posters here, lol...
Yeah after a bit the UI is very easy to use, I quite like it. Only thing I dislike about some of the functions of the UI is that it actually loads up a webpage to show certain things like the help section n such, kinda poor quality and should of been built into the game I think.. But its a very fun game so far. I'm dieing to play the servers have been down for a scheduled update.

I played Eve as well, for about 3 months. Have played alot of the regular online games, including Wow (very briefly)
I think I look forward more to the interviews that are put out by staff here, but sometimes I just want a finger on the pulse of the gaming audience...to determine whats happening. Then I make my own decisions as to what I am going to play.
And re some of the players here....I know right?
hehe

Its not poorly implemented, its meant to be this way...diffecult.
You might be enjoying the game, but i have some issue's that are worth mentioning. Hope i dont ruin the fanboi ratio here.
First Impressions:
- Queueing...
*15 minutes later*
Queueing...
After 45 minutes: Play!
Ok i got ingame.
First Impression Ingame:
Character creation:
Dull, little options. Having a first and surname sucks.
Now ingame
All those screens make a mess of your lookout. So i figured: Lets sort all screens out, like chat, hp bar etc etc. BUT, you cannot place your chat window in the bottom of your screen, you cannot place your hp bar at the right side of your screen. From my 1280x1024 resolution, i can only use 800x600 to place my chatwindows, my hp bar etc IN THE MIDDLE OF MY SCREEN! WTF!
Out to hunt then.
And out hunting i went, ran through the mountains with wind in my gayness hair. After a few minutes i figured out where the goblins are. Ping was nice, 20ms constantly. After a while i saw no goblins, got buttsmacked all over by invisible users.
Not Satisfied
And let down i logged off, hoping reloggin would fix the issue. But it didnt and i came into the:
- Queueing...
figured out that Warhammer 40.000 II would give me more entertainment. And it did, after 4 hours i decided to log back on. And yet again:
- Queueing...
After 32 minutes i was able to log in the game. The synch issue was less and i figured out to go hunt again.
After a few minutes i killed my first goblin, and got my loot. Some arse figured out that it would be cool to steal my price and took away all the goodstuff. Thing was: I couldnt see him. Still synch issue. But i went on, after 30 minutes i had 50gp a shield and a sword.
Conclussion:
For me there is only 1 thing that needs to be sorted out... Not the synch issue, cuz that has high priority and is allready fixed from what i read this morning. But the
- Queueing...
I hope that no more players are let in and that Aventurine gets smart and aranges another server. Tbh 1 server is a weak ammount to start off a game with so many interested players. 2 servers would have even been too little, but a wiser decision than just 1 server... I mean, look at Lineage 2, it got hardly 10% of the same ammount of fans before release and release with 4-5 servers? Anyway, thats not my point... My point is that having to wait 30-45 minutes before playing sucks.
Queing? I had no issue. After the initial patch, once my account went live, they actual queing took no more than a few seconds, each time I logged on. (I logged on and off a few times due to RL issues.) So I am not sure what you mean.
Are you sure that the server was actually up, when you were queing?
Character creation is not the best I have ever seen, but ok to me. Everyone I know has a first and last name... you are funny... and childish if this bothers you. I call that digging...
I had no probelem setting up my UI, maybe ask someone to help you as I had none of the issues you describe.
Hunting, yea, when the desynch started it got kinda bad, that's why I went exploring...
I really don't know why you have a queing issue, as I said, I didn't at all.
I hope you have better luck today.
Hehe good review. Hope to hear more once they sort out the sync issues.

Yep,
Green icon and server was up. I have spoke with people on a dutch forum and they experience the same issues of the que. Maybe your not playing at European Prime time?
What is your resolution?
I asked ingame for the screen issue, i got the favorite answer ALT + F4
:')
I stopped reading when I got to "Dull, little options. Having a first and surname sucks". It's not fanboisim that made me stop reading it's the arbitrary complaints that seem to come from no where. Isn't there a happy-medium or is it always fanboy vs. hater?
yep queuing is a problem esp since other people dont get into a waiting list
i was in a gueu and my friend got in with out one several minutes after i started the game. and he could log out and back in with out a problem
Graphics dont seem to good on it...
then its because of your taste some animations are sometimes a bit od but the graphics in total are great.
This is a bug. It was the worst out of all the bugs for me in Beta, as it is extremely annoying AND it decreases performance. You probably noticed some frame skipping.
Fortunately there is a work around for the issue. Launch the game in 800x600 in fullscreen. Once you have done that, alt-tab and minimize the game. When you maximize it, your ui should be out of place, sorta displaced halfway off the screen. Now, open up options, go to video options, and then change your resolution in game to 1280x1024.
That should work, as it worked for me in beta.

I am in the Netherlands as well and was playing last night during EU primetime. Really, no issues at all with queing.
I am playing at the highest resolution on a 24" wide-screen monitor. I didn't have any problem at all with my UI setup and I don't have any specific advise for your issue. Maybe a re-install might work.
I had this idea too, but i cant figure out why... It makes no sense.

Question: You got a 9800 GTX Extreme with 700+mb from asus too?
From an outside perspective as someone who is looking for a straight review of the state of the game with no bias either way:
Everyone knocking the guy's comment about charcter creation sucking and not liking first and surname makes you look like the biggest fanboi ever. This is a legitmite complaint. If the devs listen to players like you (who were also probably in the beta) the game will be never be great. You gotta take critisim when it's there; you guys sound like your defending your little sibling or girlfriend.
I am glad this game is finally playable. I am not sure how much i would enjoy getting inviso ganked and loosing all my stuff... but to each his own. I admire Darkfall for trying something new and I realize its going to have a niche appeal.
To all the fanboi's of this game who can't stand any critqueing-- Listen to these people otherwise your going to end up in a an empty game world. I can say this with utmost certainty after beta testing some of the biggest MMO flops and success. Everyone's opinion and input are valid, it makes a better game overall.

So your saying they made the UI difficult to use by design to make the game harder to play? I hope your not serious?
Awesome story. That is what DF is supposed to be about. Thanks.
PS: They should just remove alignment altogether - it just ends up being abused.
-----
Its funny how people who hate Darkfall spend so much time talking about Darkfall.
I guess being a fat troll means having no friends, no girls, and nothing better to do than spew hate on internet forums..
Nah, alignment system is ok. Makes it a bit harder, (I did go grey and get wtfpwnd a few times because of it, a couple of those by the same player who I think was just waiting for players killing goblins to accidently go rogue).
At first I was going Rogue because I didn't realize you could do an overhand swing (T) and was constantly hitting other players, as they ran in to hit my mob.
One must be aware of ones surroundings, hehe...
Later I went Rogue due more to being desynched than for any other reason.
