Hey, I have to admit that this game sounds like the perfect savior to all the overly stream-lined piles of trash they are releasing as mmos today. All PvP, no safezones, 100% loot. a 3D pre-trammel Ultima Online, KICK ASS! Yay!!!
But for those true mmo fans out there who await this game so eagerly... an old line from one of my all time favorite movies comes to mind...
"Lonesome Dove": A scene where the main star, Augustus Mcrae holds his dear woman friend tightly and gives her some very wise words. Lorrie has been stuck in boring towns all over Texas all her life in the late 1800s and has had a life long dream of going to San Francisco. She has dreamed about how great it would be, and how it would change her life so she'd never have another worry or another lonely day. All she wants is to get to San Francisco. And Gus wisely tells her:
"Be careful that you don't anticicpate any one thing so much that you miss the finer things of life. For if you put everything you have and all your dreams into one one desire, you only guarantee yourself one thing and that is huge disappointment."
That's not what he said word for word, but it is pretty close. And it actually holds a lot of truth.
It would be ashamed to anticipate this game so much for so long, and in the process, set yourself up for disappointment with it when it finally does release.. no matter how good it is.. you'll be disappointed if you anticpate it too much for too long.

Well yeah Darkfall seems like the greatest "Fantasy" game comming out for the PvP Community. But its not the only great game.
Roma Victor will be comming out within a matter of months, so I recommend you look forward to that game before going to this.
This game has turned into 100% vapourware, but the developer's team seems to be saying that beta phase will finally start "soon". Now when I hear the word "soon", I tend to think of how EA uses that word, and with a game already vapourware like this one, I would suggest taking soon as around 6 months.
If you think that the developers deserve your faith to complete this game properly, then ok, but I recommend you to play Roma Victor either way. It will introduce you to the twitch combat style games, has everything darkfall promises, except sea battle and magic.....well actually Roma Victor promises a way way way lot more then darkfall.....just not those 2 things I just mentioned.
By the way, don't be put off by Roma Victors screenshots, they don't tend to be wasting money markteting the game, and they promised the graphics to be standard graphics of an MMORPG being released today. Darkfall developers promised high fps, so the probability is that the graphics will not be so sharp :S.....but you have to admire the developers for doing that.....atleast you know they aim to make this game fun......I just know that if the graphics arent sharp and clear in an FPS, things get hard to see! Anyway just think about what I said, and check out Roma Victor....just as a temporary game while you wait for Darkfall.
Anyway Zaxx, I like your way of thinking, I was just asking this the other day. Its not a matter of if the game can be possible, but if the developers are capable of making this game what the PvP community wants it to be. I mentioned Roma Victor, because I know its what the PvP community wants...hell the pvp community had a massive effect on what was implemented. Most of the features were ideas from the pvp community. But Roma Victor, aims itself at not only the PvP community but, at the whole MMORPG community, except I am not sure about the PvE community, and those who like doing dungeon quests. Exclude those and include the people who desire a community which is really friendly and the game encourages a lot of community cooperation (Roma Victor not only encourages it, but really requires it for your character to progress!). This game isnt a solo type game either, solo types are those who enjoy mainly PvE, this game isn't for them. Also Roma Victor is aimed obviously at the PvP community, with Open PvP, Full looting, loads of calculations and factors to predict how great your next swing will be and stuff like that. The state of your character has a lot to do with how good and fast you will be in combat. The more swings you have already done, the less vigour you expect to have and the more tired and slow you are. This game aims also a real lot at those who love crafting, it really is aimed at an intense hardcore crafting community, and also the people who enjoyed Eve for its enterprise feature, in other words running a business, though in Roma Victor, you can run tons of bisuinesses, just becareful where they are located. As for politics, its the real deal, being the senate, conspiring against the Emperor (whos a player character aswell), planning to assasinate the emperor, anything!!!! Making descisions for the benefit of Rome and its people, supposively.
All that and much more, Roma Victor shows it has a capable team behind it, and I know that I would put more faith into those developers then the ones making Darkfall, to even make a game like Darkfall. I don't have faith in the Darkfall developers, because of their flag ship game turning into vapourware, and also because I don't see them as a capable group. People still question me, but then i say 5 years in development, and when is the beta projected? "Soon".....
If he wanted to know about RV he would have found it's own boards himself, and if you have such little faith in this game would you kindly take these posts elsewhere since we all know your stance on things. And I'm not trying to sound 'grand', but it just gets boring to come on the DF boards each time to be faced with 'Roma Victor this, Roma Victor that, blah blah blah'
To OP: Like most games, the wait is the worst part. You just have to keep yourself occupied and find something to take your mind off it. Save the offical home page http://www.darkfallonline.com/ in your favourites and just hit the link every now and then to see if something's changed. It will show up in the bottom right of the page as soon as something happens.
Too bad that movie's ideas are based off of teachings of aristotle (not to mention many other philosophers hundred's of years old). Things like this should be taught in school earlier imo.
HAHAHA had to necro this one from almost 4 years ago. After the logic that Zaxtor threw this board today seeing this was ironic. Even back then he was trying to help people stay away from overhyping.
Consistency like that is hard to find on these boards.
The sleeper awakes...and rides his dirtbike to the mall.
Whats Roma Victor?
Lets see..... I dunno know, but my guess is.
-A full-loot , sandbox mmo where you can play a char from ancient Rome. You have 6 factions to chose from: Romans, Carthaginians, Gauls, Germanic tribes and probably two others.
Roma Victor have no LV, no classes and is skillbased. You can build citys, all kind of ships and it have a good crafting system. The whole game is based on the freedom of PVP and it is consider a nishe mmo.
If I`m wrong, I can`t understand why they put it on the DF forum
