All Aventurine needs to do is turn the mobs on, turn the NPCs on, turn the collision detection on, turn the speed switch to "fast" instead of slow, and turn debug mode off...
Yep. As beta leak after beta leak is revealed the public, the excuses from the Darkfall fanatics just keeps piling up. I'm so sick of hearing that they need to turn "debug" mode off or that problems are only because they are in debug mode.. I am about to scream.
It truly is frightening at the depths that the fans here will delve to cover up the problems as they are revealed. Aventurine, even with their "top secrecy mode: on" and them continuing to keep it all undercover is obviously trying ridiculously hard to keep it all a secret for a reason. They aren't releasing the NDA for a reason, and it's not because its as Tasos has told us, trust me on that one. Tasos, ofcourse has told us all months ago that this game was ready for launch over eight weeks ago and was running better then most mmos on the market, blah blah blah. Well, if that were truly the case, do you think the NDA would still be up and everything would still be kept such a secret? Ofcourse not, they would want the publicity and word of mouth about how great their game was for as long as possible if they were REALLY confident about the state of their game. Any fool can see that.
To me and others, there really isn't much mystery at all about the reasons for their keeping everything so "shush shush" all these weeks. We have seen this before with many other mmos. Their game, if the truth were to be known to the public, is in a state of shambles and simply not running even half as good as the great Tasos has been publicly proclaiming for months on end now.
This is not hard to see or understand.
So really fans.. Why all the excuses now? Why all the backing up of Tasos and the game when you really don't even believe what you are saying yourself. You know better. And what about all the fans a couple of months ago that have suddenly went into hiding? Where did all of them go?
Look guys (and ladies).. I totally understand your desire for a game that isn't like all the others out now and your desires for a game that is 180 degrees opposite of WOW and LOTRO. I get that. I would like seeing nothing more myself, trust me. But I cannot let wishful thinking or desires outweigh the cold, hard truth that stares us all in the eyes now.
To make it simple, do you really think Blizzard or Turbine would trade even 1/100th of what they have now on the market to be in Aventurines shoes right now? Now be honest. Ofcourse not! Anyone that envy's Aventurine right now isn't thinking straight. All their promises after such a long history of development with this game. And their game probably is not even close to being ready and in a state that can even be competitive to the major mmo games out right now. And furthermore, I don't even think they have the knowledge or ability to fix it and make it work as they have told us it would work. Right now, I honestly think that Aventurine is up the creek without a paddle and praying that this mess turns up the best that is possibly can.
Lord help them. They are gonna need it and all the magic dust they can get their hands on. If they just had a magic reagent vendor in their client working, maybe they could even double click him and hope that he had some magic dust for sale that they could buy out. But even that magic vendor is still not a part of their own game yet. Lord help them, like I say....

Hmm.. I think they just need to turn debug mode off. Then it will be the best game ever in the MMORPG history of games. I think that god himself will just be like WOW I WANNA PLAY DF BECAUSE THEY JUST TURNED DEBUG MODE OFF OMG OMG OMG.
Is noone paying attention to you today? Well you go right ahead and keep restating whats been stated before. YAY!!!

What's so foolish and asinine about this whole post, this quote in particular, is that you are not hearing crap, you are reading it. Stop visiting the Darkfall forums if you hate the game or don't believe the game is worth your time.
I'm not interested in playing Aion, hence I'm not over on the Aion boards trashing the game or it's devs...
Done deal.

Ah yes, so sorry about that. I really tried hard to make another thread specifically for you Focker. You know, another one of those "DF is gonna pwn all 0th3r gam3z, if u don't l0v3 DF, u suxxorz" threads that you enjoy so much.
{grin}
- Zaxx
agreed if you dont like the game then stay away from the darkfall forums and stop talking about it. posting threads like this make you look like a troll

Didn't think it was possible for this thread to get any worse. I was wrong
Nope, you won't go trash Aion, but what you will do is troll any forum thread that bashes your beloved Darkfall and trash any poster who dares to say anything negative about it.
..Not a lot of difference between you and I the way I see it. Only I am trashing a game, you prefer to trash other people.

After reading this hunk of junk I guess you are on the TROLL side.
You come to DF forms and call people here that are waiting for the game names, but all you do is talk through your "A" hole. Go troll some where else, we heard it all before from much better than you and we are still here waiting for OUR game. When DF does launch, you keep playing your WOW and enjoy the kiddies. Me, I will be in a whole new world having a blast. By the way, thanks for your insight NOW move along nothing for you here!!
And posting posts such as you have (simply trolling any thread that bashes your game of choice with no reasons or explanations) could certainly make you look like a "fanboy"

But according to some we are supposed to cut AV some slack because they are a small indie team where as the others were big companies...
But yeah, he who hides is doing so out of fear of being found out.

no see the thing about your post is that it brings nothing argumentative to the table. you dont try to prove a point or say something meaningful. your post is just a bunch of hate at an inanimate object that has done nothing to you, congratulations retard. the forums for different games are meant for fans of the game so that they can talk about said game and have good debates over issues or different aspects of the game. problem is with the darkfall forums is that the forum has become so filled with troll threads (such as yours) that the rest of us normal folk are getting quite annoyed with it. its like the game slapped your mother or something the way you trolls dispise this game its just unbelievable. let people do what they want with their free time. if they want to follow a game then its no difference to you. just dont show up in this forum anymore and you'll be happy. oh and dont say you want to save us all from the evil meance aventurine is and how their gonna steal all of our money just leave us fans of darkfall alone and let us hope in peace. have a good day.
Hehe. Nope. Anyone who knows me probably knows that my favorite mmos are in the following order: Asheron's Call (Darktide server), Ultima Online (Pre-Trammel), and Dark Age of Camelot.
Wow, Aion, and all mmos released since these three amazing games haven't even touched the surface of what those three games were. In my opinion ofcourse. I admire what Aventurine is trying to do, or what they have promised, but in the end I honestly think it all will just fizzle like a noob mage in old school UO trying to cast a spell far above his abilities. Fizzle with a cloud of smoke.
Sorry I don't see the silver lining in Darkfall that so many of you do. I've been down this road before. Deja Vu and it all looks ohhh so familiar. (ie, Mourning, Dark and Light, etc)

yeppers!!........
A miracle patch is in the works for the day the game releases.
/sarcasm off
Ah, so nice to see that someone actually took the time to read my OP and got my point without getting angry and hurling vicious names at me.
Nice to see that someone actually "got it" after my OP obviously upset so many uhhhh Darkfall forum members. :-)

But yeah, he who hides is doing so out of fear of being found out.
The way I see it is that we cut them less slack. If a huge game company, with millions of dollars and a huge development team can promise the world and then deliver a half-assed game like Age of Conan, then what even remotely should make us think a small indie team will be any different?
NDA's are kept up for a reason and those reasons are never good. Think of it this way - you get a good grade at school or do well on something, you come home and tell your parents immediately. You do not sit and wait on it until the last minute. However, if you do something bad and are in trouble at school, you take as much time as possible before telling your parents and 9 times out of 10, the teacher tells them directly.
A game company acts the same way - if they are proud of their game and what they are doing, they make it public. YOU ESPECIALLY make it known right before release to maximize your sales. That is why you always see a lot of articles, press releases, media blitzes, the works right before release.
AV wants to maximize their sales and with 3 weeks to go, this should be happeneing now. The lack of it along with the NDA still in place is not a good sign at all.
Aye
Between the term-heavy NDA and the sudden 180 on the view of preorders it all starts to point to a premature launch. The preorder aspect alone points to a need to make an estimate as to the interest in the game beyond what the forum numbers show. If preorders are only available via the Darkfallonline.com website then its a sign they need to make some resources to continue developement costs.
I see AV at the point of 'release now or die' because funds dont last forever and eventually investors want to start seeing a return on their money. Going by the investor showings AV held last year they are in need of money. And before anyone uses the "The Greek Gov is funding them too" line; Even governments want to be paid back at some point.
As for advertisments, funds could also be a reason for that. Sure they could have magazine previews, but if the game isnt ready the rags will state so.

So wait, you are using speculation heard from an unreliable third party source to make your judgement about the game. I guess that makes you just as bad as the fanboys who are doing the same thing.
Honestly all the leaks are incredibly bias in one way or another and I refuse to listen to either side. Oh and I don't trust the so called videos because honestly I can find an empty area in any game and run through it for a minute, throw it online and say: look no monsters anywhere.
I'm not saying this game is going to be good, but until I see it for myself I am not going to withold my judgement.
Oh and can I say your responses are some of the most immature responses I've seen on these forums.
Equivalent to "I know you are but what I am".
Why would Darkfall fans get angry with your post?
After you dug up all these hard facts to poke a hole in their Darkfall bubble they should be grateful.
Yes all the "Darkfall RULZ" and whatnot posts are crap but your post is equal crap.
There is a good chance Darkfall will suck, because most MMOs suck, but just like them not knowing it will be good you also dont know it will suck.
Can anyone show me a real preview from a legitimate game mag or online mag for this game anywhere? Generally with a game so close to release there would be a flurry of previews...so show me them.
Actually thanks for a fairly intelligent response first of all.
No, I am not only using the beta leaks. There are good ones stating that Darkfall is the best ever, and certainly many on the direct opposite side as well. And we can't trust any of them to be honest, because we don't even know them or if they are even actually in the beta.
I am using what I have seen over the years with Aventurine, with Tasos, and with all of their empty promises and pushed back dates. I am using my experience with the knowledge that I have of other mmo games, other videos I have seen from other such games before release, and all information as a whole. I also am using the similarities to the Mourning and the Dark and Light pre launch experience that I have. I have participated in many mmo betas. The worst beta for an mmo I ever was a part of was for Dark and Light. And the best beta as far as quality, smooth game play was LoTRO. LoTRO isn't my game of choice, but I cannot lie about the sheer quality of the beta itself, but how organized and well Turbine gave its fans information that actually delived. Unlike what we are currently seeing with Aventurine and Darkfall Online.
I am using mostly mmo experience as a whole. Sorry that I didn't include this in my OP and I can understand where you might gather that I am only going from beta leaks. I used the beta leaks in my OP mainly to make my point of seeing so many fans actually thinking fixing such problems (if they do exist) is as easy as turning off debug mode, or turning on their mobs.
I totally agree that making a video of running though an empty world is one thing, but to actually show footage of mob/player interaction and details of the game is completely different. Obviously we'd all much prefer to see the more "honest" depiction of the game.
- Zaxx
My opinion is that they are hiding something. And there is reasons for that. I am also dismissing all of the fans excuses to supposedly beta testers problems with the client as in lack of mobs, slow moving avatars, lack of npcs, etc. My point is that it certainly isn't as easy as "turning on the mobs" or "turning off debug mode" and everything will be great.
If all of these supposed problems are in fact problems that exist now with the game, the game is likely in serious trouble.
Add to that, the lack of information coming from Aventurine so close to release. Add in all the mysteries such as lack of PC specs needed to play, how and when this game will be distributed, and other such MAJOR aspects that should be known by now, and it doesn't look good for this game.
I think I have made myself VERY clear as to my reasons for thinking that this game is in serious trouble and deserves a LOT of skepticism right now. I also think I have done more then simply say "this game will suxxors" without giving any reasoning.
- Zaxx
No one is argueing against the points you're making - because you're not saying anything new.
Looking at leaked videos, it's clear DF is not for everyone. You can obviously see how this game is coming together and what kind of game it's going to be.
This is not a mass market MMO. It is for the EQ, old school fanbase. Massive world design, sparce, tough mobs, hardcore PvP rules. If you are this skeptical of the game and the 30 man indie dev team, I suggest checking out WoW, if you havent already, it's a solid game you may enjoy.

Heh, I might enjoy WOW huh? If you mean in the aspect of a polished game that runs smoothly and actually has mobs and npcs and something to do, then perhaps you are right in that regard.
But no. I have played UO, EQ1, EQ2, Asherons Call, Asherons Call 2, Eve Online, Horizons, Dark Age of Camelot, The Sims Online, Second Life, Lineage, Lineage 2, Guild Wars, World of Warcraft, The Saga of Ryzom, Star Wars Galaxies, Irth Online, Perfect World, Mourning, Dark and Light, City of Heroes/Villains, Dungeon Runners, and many others. I have participated in 8 mmo betas. - WoW is not my type of mmo, but thanks for the suggestion and I'll assume that it wasn't an insult, but I think that's exactly as it was intended.
Darkfall would obviously not be for everyone. I must agree with you on that. However, I would like to add that Darkfall even if it launches and finds itself up and running smoothly with most of the features promises included and working well - Darkfall would be for a small market of players in the overall mmo community. I would be one of those that would love a game like Darkfall hypes itself to be. But then again, I don't think this game even has a chance to survive as it stands now. Too much mystery so close to launch time. Too much hiding and too little information. That is shining beacon lights based on my experience. Shall we say shining beacon lights in the way of RED FLAGS.
But in the end, I'm sure that after Darkfall has come and gone and all that is left is empty promises and the shattered dreams of what might have been, both you and I might contemplate whether we should go goof off in a game like WoW again until the next great hype for a great risk vs reward PvP style mmo comes our way.
