That should do you fine.
Heh... thanks.
I know the leaks are easy to find now. THAT is the point.
More testers = More leaks
That's what we were saying a couple months ago. Some were saying they had plenty of testers... it was just the NDA that was keeping the leaks down. Apparently the new Beta testers are braver?
Since the NDA is still up something must have changed for there to be more leaks.
I'm going to go with more testers.
I actually wished I hadn't see any of them... Where before I was more along a fence... after seeing them, I have give thumbs down.
I wouldn't give up hope yet.
If they delay it some more they have the chance to get some of that looking and working better. If they stick with the Feb. 25th date... it's going to be a rough ride for those that want the game to succeed.
After they have waited this long to Release it... it would seem kinda silly to Release it KNOWING it needs more work.

But sometimes your budget decides when its time to release. Something tells me that all the time they spent in developement (almost a decade) has dwindled their cash flow to their last few bucks. Add to that the sudden change in opinion of preorders and it starts to add up to the well running dry.
No budget lasts for ever...
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

Well I'll try and keep an optomistic view... I mean it's possible they can fix the frame rate by 25th but... just seems they would have to work non-stop around the clock on it... seem's that type of fix might be monumental at worst, and very difficult at best. Trying to stay on that fence but really has been difficult after seeing that leak (part 1 and 2). They say ignorance is bliss, and I think I've finally come to understand what that cliche means.
they did not change their strategy, they lost just time because of things Tasos mentioned.
The game had never big bugs since public testers test it
That speaks for the good work on testing with the prof testers before...Their testing was effective and the small amount of bugs speaks for effectiveness of their testing philosophy..what they changed during Beta is putting in some changes cause of feedback ..but the features were functionally ok and bugless ..for example the running works the sprinting works , all is fine..they just listen to feedback and try some changes to please the beta tester about running/sprinting.
The lengthy beta patchenotes proof that the game was ready with all the features ..they just had to transfair the features onto the live servers ..no one can develop the feature they enabled with patch 80 and 100 in 2 weeks ..
Darth budy, You were doing so well after the last missed release date. You actually sounded reasonable for a change. It is a shame you have gone back to your old ways.
The game has had several large patches to address a number of major bug fixes. To claim otherwise is simply false. The public testers probably addressed some issues, but they cannot break a game like a mass of normal players.
If the game was ready for release there would not be so many patches. Since you have been reading them you see where they have addressed client crashes which has nothing to do with feedback.
Quit trying to spin this game again. You sounded human for a week and now back to the cheerleading squad. If the game is ready please explain why...
Shields are currently pointless.
Decapitation caused client crashes.
City building has not been fully tested.
35 players fighting is such a HUGE deal.
There are issues left to be addressed and anyone with a lick of interest knows it even if they try to ignore it. I think the Devs are doing the right thing here with the delays and more involved public beta. The game has potential... trying to argue any little criticism does not help the game, it only hurts your credibility.
You know i have replayed to post claimed "Aventurine changed Beta Strategy" ?
You talk about bugs that not only occur while beta test but still can occur on live servers. My argument was that testers reported on the beta test stability as a strong point and just things not turned on what has been with latest builds..There isn't for me change in testing Philosophy. .
Delay yes but not change of philosophy although they listened to feedback and put minor things in.
Shields maybe pointless but they work ! Decapitation bug was because of bad transfer from their source repository to live servers, got fixed very fast. City Building works for the buildings Clans have the gold materials for to build yet, same goes for ships. After the materials was given to a tester he was able to craft ships no prob.
Dunno why the tester can't organize a proper 100+ vs 100+ battle. They soloing too much for my taste.
Darth, tbh, ur replies are = lol!!
The rules of Debate are really simple; once you have to stoop to insults instead of facts, logic, or reason to try and win your argument, you've lost.
The original beta testers were PAID testers. They didn't leak information because it would have meant their company losing a contract, and them losing some pretty sweet testing jobs.
Now it's open to the public leaks are coming fast. It has something to say about the value of paid testers and the lack of value of semi-open beta NDA.
Considering the number of major patches that have been released over the past week, I agree it speaks volumes about the effectivness of a small group of paid testers. Paid testers are a great starting point, but no game is sufficiently vetted without a massive beta test at some point. That is just the reality.
I believe that Aventurine realized this and pushed back the date so they could have a more complete beta test. They may push the date back again for the same reason.
I agree.
I think it's safe to say that the method of testing Aventurine was using starting back in Sept. (and everything previous to that) wasn't having the results that they wanted. Hence the change, and delay of the game.
Sometime in late Dec./ early Jan. they realized that to effectively test an MMO you need to dump a large amount of players into it. Viola... Beta testing began in earnest.
Suddenly we started hearing about needed to test this and that more. Then we heard about stuff not working like they had thought it would (sprinting/running for example). Basically all the stuff that happens when you actually let players into the game and let them find out what works and what doesn't.
A lot of things sound cool on paper. They may even work in a small group setting. However if those things don't work on a mass scale... they need to be changed or scrapped. That is what Beta testing is all about.
Even from "The Noob's" own screenshot showing the "popularity" of the idea of pre-ordering with the Beta testers it says they are still in Phase 1 of Beta Testing.
It's good they are finally Beta testing the game the way it should have been about a year ago... but at least they are making progress.
Disagree
they did not change their strategy, they lost just time because of things Tasos mentioned.
The game had never big bugs since public testers test it,( beta testers didn't report that , in contrary they reported beta stability as strong point)

Please point out in my thread where I claimed it had big bugs?
The game has been tested to the point it was stable at the point public testers entered Beta..you said it hasn't been tested efficiently and implied it has bugs ..but game reported stability prooves game has been tested properly.
Umm... didn't I just say the same thing in my post... to which you said you disagreed?
Yes minor changes and balancing NOT changing of beta strategy like you put it ..
As they have more people enter and turn more features on... we are starting to see more and more that needs work. THAT was the point some of us were trying to hammer home in November! Let thousands of people into the game and play it! Use their feedback to figure out what works and what doesn't.
As they put more things on we saw more things working , of course they will be sometime bugs like in any software. All were minor bugs nothing game breaking like most testers report.
It's not a really hard concept to grasp... it just took Aventurine longer to figure out than most MMOs. Hopefully they will keep the game in Development as long as it takes to make sure it is thoroughly tested.
It hasn't any big game breaking bugs, things coming along as usual and even better like in other games in Beta.
Have the Beta testers done ship battles yet? How about Hover tank battles? How about Mounted combat? The siege and take over of clan cities?
It has been tested with pro testers, it works with non game breaking bugs like the rest of the game , minor tweaks balancing possible, small fixes possible too.
There are still leaks coming in of them having entire dungeons, cities, and even whole regions un-populated of NPCs and mobs. Has the whole game even been completely turned on yet and everything running at the same time? How about with thousands of live players on and hundreds more logging in and out?
Right now populating the world is main task on their test plans.
When they FINALLY get to that stage... then they can start congratulating themselves at how stable the game is.
The game is one of the most stable games that entered public Beta
When you leave whole areas un-populated and most features turned off with just a few testers playing... yeah it SHOULD run rock solid.
Now it has many futures on and runs rock solid. the negative leaker even changed his stance and admited stability of game..and never come back with comments about game being unstable anymore ..you should rethink your opinion on the game being unstable..
Now that more features are being turned on and a decent amount of people are playing... we're seeing more and more things pop up that didn't manifest themselves before. Huh... who would have guessed it might behave differently with more things turned on and more people logged in.
Again minor things like in every piece of software nothing game breaking
Why you think your opinion about game could be not stable, with so much things appear to working, is valid ? No game breaking bugs occurred yet.

Seriously you know for a fact it has been tested by pro testers? And that its not broken/buggy, just requiring a few tweaks?
Has anyone not learned from Funcom and their 'internal' tester BS?
Until something has been tested by beta testers it is considered an absent feature. Because once they start using 'it is being tested by pro/internal testers, it means that its not really ingame yet. Been in waaaaay too many betas to fall for this line again...

I've spent hours and hours in Darkfall over the weekend. I believe that people who have been following the game for years will probably find what they are looking for in Darkfall. The features they've promised are all in the game, and working as best as I can tell. But more importantly, the overall feeling one gets from an adventure in Darkfall is genuinely unique.
PvP
While small-group PvP is somewhat simple (at least at my skill level), it's a great deal of fun. What makes PvP in Darkfall different are its terms. You aren't in an arcade-like battleground, like in WoW or WAR. You aren't playing for points. You are trying to survive, and to prevent your opponent from taking your stuff. I've gotten ganked several times, and each time it pisses me off! But, those times that you get a kill of your own easily make up for it. The ability to step aside when a spell or arrow is tossed at you is incredible, and seeing the blood splatter is great. The only major complaint I have with PvP is the lack of overall responsiveness in the UI. This is something I am constantly hopeful that they will fix.
PvE
The PvE is good for similar reasons. Since you're not constantly getting overloaded with quests, you are free to play the game however you like. When a friend logs in, he doesn't have to worry about catching up on quests. He can just join the action.
PvE in Darkfall is motivated by wealth. Gold has a lot of value in Darkfall. It's used to buy skills and outfit your character - and the cost of things is not cheap. The spawns are no longer "bugged", but they are definitely way too sparse. There is still no wildlife to hunt, for example. I am still scouting for dungeons to explore, but no luck so far. I know they exist though, as I've heard people talk about them in Global.
Overall
I think overall Darkfall is fun. It's still very rough though, and Aventurine must address this before they officially release the game. As someone who has been following the game for years, I sincerely hope they get the game at least a little polished. I'd really like it to be a commercial success, not another MMO failure. "

Now that there are starting to be quite a few different Beta leaks I couldn't help but remember the debate that was had a month or so ago.
Why aren't we seeing hardly any Beta Leaks? Remember that coming up again and again.
One of the reasons put forth by quite a few on this forum was the extremely small amount of people in Beta and that those that were in Beta were close friends of Tasos and other devs. This was pointed out as being a detriment to the testing of DarkFall as a large number of testers was key to making sure everything was working as intended.
Another reason that was put forth by a number of other posters here on this forum was that the NDA was very strict and that all of those in Beta took it very seriously and were afraid to break it because of the consequences that would follow.
So here were are at the present time with a few things that I think everyone would agree with. 1) There are more people in Beta now 2) There are more leaks now 3) The NDA is still in effect
So... which one of the previous reasons for the lack of Beta leaks seems to be correct one now.
the reason previously? because everyone in the "beta" were being paid by the company, so it was in their best interest to not leak anything.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

nice words.
words are not proof.
repeatedly, we have asked for proof.
there do exist official videos, which show pretty much NONE of the "unique" features listed on darkfall's site.
where are THOSE videos? where are the videos that show me an archer in medium+ armor that stops shooting arrows and starts doing magic? where's the big tough warrior guy that can do magic? where's the magic guy that starts shooting arrows or grabs a mace and pops someone in the head?
that's JUST the skills... where is the proof of all these other wonderful features, which are touted on the website?
proof or stfu is a rule that still applies to this day.
lots of words do NOT equal proof.

I'm 95% certain that the "latest" leak video shows a guy get smacked around by "Mana Missile" from some elf, who proceeds to catch up to him and take him down with a two-handed sword. I don't know how unique that is, as even UO had tank mages who used Halberds, but still.
Is English a second language for you Raiden? Just wondering because you once again prove my contention that the most vocal sycophantic fawnbois write like they are using a translator from some foreign language. Which leads me to believe that either A) you are a shill for Aventurine You are quite young and don't understand proper grammer C) You failed grammer school English D) You really don't give a F how stupid your comments come off as.
English is a second language to me, and to many others. When will you egocentric, pompus a**es stop trying to assess someones personality based on a written text on a forum on the internet?
You should take it to heart and stop spewing this kind of sh*t around you, it only belittles your standing in most educated peoples minds.
and what on earth does "sycophantic fawnbois" mean anyone?

Like I said, I agree with this first half. English isnt a native language for a lot of folks. No reason to tear him down for that. If he has "stupid ideas", then sure. However, bad grammer is no good idea to hate for.
And there was no reason to delete my previous post. Hell, it was the least inflammatory post I've made in the past two days.
And there was no reason to delete my previous post. Hell, it was the least inflammatory post I've made in the past two days.
And with that you just broke the forum rules - well done - well on the way to getting a third thread locked.
Dear MMORPG.com Mods,
Instead of locking all the threads where AllTheZios has posted and incited a flame war - how about just editing the damn things?
By locking the threads you are just being used... this is a tactic that has been used on a number of Developer forums in the last year.
Someone posts something you don't like?
Derail the thread.
Start a flame war
Incourage people to make personal insults against you (so YOU don't do anything wrong...)
Sit back and wait for the thread to be locked as a result... FTW!
Honestly guys - you are getting used. I am really disappointed you are falling for it.
You are insane. I backed up this guy on the fact that not everyone speaks English at a Native skill level, and that was good enough for a post delete? No flaming, no excessive foul language, just an opinion. It made no sense. Someone tore into the guy for not speaking English well, and used that as a basis for their "U R STUPID" flames. I disagreed with that.
If it runs so smoothly and there is nothing to hide then why is the NDA still up? plenty of NDA violations around IF it is so stable and no game-breaking bugs then why haven't they let any major media in to do a Beta preview? Because their decision for not letting in media yet (or don't let them report their preview) has nothing to do with the game being stable or the lack of game breaking bugs ? we have gamer reviews from beta leaker thats even better ..game magazines differ in most cases from gamer rating ..I don't buy or read any magazine myself and never have but i play the best MMO's out there. If it is so bug-free and smooth and stable... then why not show us? What do you mean by "show us" ? There are officially released gameplay videos, journals, screenshots, beta previews.. What are they afraid of? Game is delayed they gave public info about the reasons They announced a new release date ..check back on that date Until the NDA drops there will be cause for doubt as to the state of the game. check back for when NDA get lifted.. i have a feeling no one can help you with your doubts because you decided to have them and your not open for other opinions with positive feedback . .you decided for yourself that there are bugs , the game is not stable and don't run smoothly.. live with that ..

No that is not exactly the bottom line, this is:
-They obviously don't want to lift the NDA, and honestly it's their decission.
-They obviously don't want major media to do a Beta preview (could have to do with the fact that they already have to many interested users, and migth have to stage the release. Atleast that falls inline whith the "no hype" line they have been following for so long).
-They obviously don't want to show us before the game is COMPLETELY ready for launch
Further more I will append to the bottom line that;
many (including, but not limited to you, xzyax) seems unable to think that they would NOT want more hype, i will leave you with a (taken form my memory) quote from Tasos: "Hype for Darkfall is massive right now, despite our best efforts"
All, all of us have to do is to wait and see.
If the game doesn't run smoothly?
-we will see that when we play it or the NDA is lifted and the reviews come out, no-one is holding a gun to your head making you pre-order.
If the game isn't stable and have game-breaking bugs?

What are you afraid of? just don't pre-order and you will be safe.
Until the NDA drops, we are not supposed to know the state of the game, unless you belive the official word that is.

So far the only exception that was made was thenoobcomic.com. That is quite telling in this industry whether you want to acknowledge it or not. We are talking about a game that will be "complete" in 14 - 16 days unless there is a third delay. I personally have no issue if there was another delay. You can argue that the Hype comes from Tasos, but some months ago the latest cry was not the Hype it was the silence everyone was angry about.. (not saying that YOU said that) but people need to make up their mind. Are they or are they NOT hyping the game? Buy "caustic rebuttals", I am assuming that you are reffering to this sites interview with Tasos, and since I consider that interview to be hostile from beginning to end, I will not comment more on that. But you have to aggree to that they have for a long time been under fire form many directions (from mmorpg.com trolls, to AoC developers and Mourning web-designers) if they once and again stand up and say stfu, they are entitled to. If you by hype mean developer journals that describes thier current doings, then everyone is hyping the shit out of their game. What I mean by hype is scripted movies CGI style. And how would they justify you NOT being let in first if you made a pre-order? If the game isn't stable and have game-breaking bugs?

Well said about the hype bit. It is quite hypocritical to say you dont' want hype after some of the comments and claims made by Tasos and co. The examples are myriad and have been cited plenty a time on these threads.
Want to know how a dev "avoids hype"? Stay off the radar. Remain low key.
There are some examples on this site of companies that came out of the woodwork with projects that had been long in development, but very few knew of 'til they went "public" about it. I know of at least two others in development that aren't even listed here and have, maybe, 6 threads where they're even mentioned.
*That's* an example of a company who wants to avoid hype and remain low-key with their development.
I think very much Tasos wanted hype for the game... perhaps he just didn't want the hype to exceed what he felt confident AV could deliver (a trap many devs fall into; including AAA titles)... Unfortunately, he did a really bad job of it by many of the statements he's made.
I think Thom Yorke sums it up well in this song's chorus... Clicky!
(clever video, incidentally)
Anyways... my two cents

Heh... so now the "official" information is the Beta-leaks?
"Hey Tasos. We don't need to worry about dropping the NDA because there are already plenty of leaks anyway. The fans can just get their information from them. No need for us to actually follow through with any of the information we said we'd give out."
Good one.
How far we have come from the threads of the big bad scary NDA that no one dared break. Remember those threads? I'm pretty sure you do Darth... as you posted in them.
So... whatever happened to that leaker who posted the dragon fight pics that Aventurine was supposedly going after. Oh yeah... that's right. Just more BS.
Oh... and what about this quote of yours from just a couple weeks back:
"All the delays and even bugs would not have been a problem for me .. but miss a release date and reward yourself pre-order money without try before pay ..isn't something i like, support or accept.. "
or this one
"Lift the NDA.
Give access to the biggest amount of number of people possible..
Let the press play and review.
Its a must now ..."
or this one
"Don't forget supposed we should all playing from januar 22 on ...may trapped in server qeues ..but we should.. "
Those are your words... not mine. Perhaps you didn't mean them? See, I still believe what you said there. They need to lift the NDA and let the press play it and review it. We should have all been playing on the 22nd. See... I agree with you. You just keep changing your mind on stuff.
You seem to have changed your attitude... again.
I am still the same as always. I'd like DarkFall to Release in a finished and tested state. That means everything... not just some starting towns and a few goblins. I am skeptical that Aventurine can pull it off and I don't trust a single word that Tasos says.
Oh, and as far as my doubts... I'll leave you with another quote from yourself:
"Yes, after the Jan 15 announcement there is much stuff to worry about these company..."
Comments
Heh...
Heh... thanks.

1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"

That speaks for the good work on testing with the prof testers before...Their testing was effective and the small amount of bugs speaks for effectiveness of their testing philosophy..what they changed during Beta is putting in some changes cause of feedback ..but the original features were functionally ok and bugless ..for example the running works the sprinting works , all is fine..they just listen to feedback and try some changes to please the beta tester about running/sprinting.
The lengthy beta patchenotes proof that the game was ready with all the features ..they just had to transfair the features onto the live servers ..no one can develop the feature they enabled with patch 80 and 100 in 2 weeks ..

It hasn't any big game breaking bugs, things coming along as usual and even better like games
Have the Beta testers done ship battles yet? How about Hover tank battles? How about Mounted combat? The siege and take over of clan cities?
It has been tested with pro testers, it works with non game breaking bugs like the rest of the game , minor tweaks balancing possible.
"It has been tested with pro testers, it works with non game breaking bugs like the rest of the game , minor tweaks balancing possible. "
There are 3 types of people in the world.
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
These quote is from a leaker who started out very negative , whine about server unstable, combat not connected yadda yadda..look what he has to report after some time now in beta :
"Updated Impressions
These ! is from a leaker with negative opinion (he started with a negative one and game "teached" him otherwise in most of his initially false impressions in his first days ) !

Why you ask? Because Tasos has used up all his BS cookies.
If it runs so smoothly and there is nothing to hide then why is the NDA still up?
IF it is so stable and no game-breaking bugs then why haven't they let any major media in to do a Beta preview?
If it is so bug-free and smooth and stable... then why not show us? What are they afraid of? That is why.

I think you may have something there!! Why hasn't anyone else said this before?!!?

So I'll take it that you don't have an idea why the NDA is still up and there are no major media previews either then?
the reason previously? because everyone in the "beta" were being paid by the company, so it was in their best interest to not leak anything.
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
nice words.
words are not proof.
repeatedly, we have asked for proof.
there do exist official videos, which show pretty much NONE of the "unique" features listed on darkfall's site.
where are THOSE videos? where are the videos that show me an archer in medium+ armor that stops shooting arrows and starts doing magic? where's the big tough warrior guy that can do magic? where's the magic guy that starts shooting arrows or grabs a mace and pops someone in the head?
that's JUST the skills... where is the proof of all these other wonderful features, which are touted on the website?
proof or stfu is a rule that still applies to this day.
lots of words do NOT equal proof.

I'm 95% certain that the "latest" leak video shows a guy get smacked around by "Mana Missile" from some elf, who proceeds to catch up to him and take him down with a two-handed sword. I don't know how unique that is, as even UO had tank mages who used Halberds, but still.
I agree

English is a second language to me, and to many others. When will you egocentric, pompus a**es stop trying to assess someones personality based on a written text on a forum on the internet?
You should take it to heart and stop spewing this kind of sh*t around you, it only belittles your standing in most educated peoples minds.
and what on earth does "sycophantic fawnbois" mean anyone?
have a great day!

Honestly guys - you are getting used. I am really disappointed you are falling for it.
Nothing says irony like spelling ideot wrong.

Nothing deletable there. Certainly nothing lockable.
To get back on topic....
This is the bottomline:
If it runs so smoothly and there is nothing to hide then why is the NDA still up?

If it is so bug-free and smooth and stable... then why not show us?

Until the NDA drops there will be cause for doubt as to the state of the game.

Further more I will append to the bottom line that;
many (including, but not limited to you, xzyax) seems unable to think that they would NOT want more hype, i will leave you with a (taken form my memory) quote from Tasos: "Hype for Darkfall is massive right now, despite our best efforts"
All, all of us have to do is to wait and see.
If the game doesn't run smoothly?
-we will see that when we play it or the NDA is lifted and the reviews come out, no-one is holding a gun to your head making you pre-order.
If the game isn't stable and have game-breaking bugs?
-we will see that when we play it or the NDA is lifted and the reviews come out, no-one is holding a gun to your head making you pre-order.
If the game is bug-free, smooth and stable?
-we will see that when we play it or the NDA is lifted and the reviews come out, no-one is holding a gun to your head making you pre-order.
What are you afraid of? just don't pre-order and you will be safe.
Until the NDA drops, we are not supposed to know the state of the game, unless you belive the official word that is.

Clicky!

Heh... so now the "official" information is the Beta-leaks?
