It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
why not just make it so when you die, your toon is dead. They seem to want to make it all realistic and all. So when you die, your screen says "you have died" you click a button and you go the character screen.

If you don't like it, then don't play. Why do you come here complaining about a very defining feature of this game? If you don't like it, then the game isn't for you. Look elsewhere.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
That is carebear. This is what they should do. You can only play if you have an electric wire attached to your arm. So if you die in the game, an electric current is sent and kills you in real life.
So basicly you're saying the game should have perma-death? Yeah brilliant idea. Do you have any more awesome ideas like that one? How about the game uninstalls itself and cancels your account afterwards too?
I seriously doubt the OP had any goals of real debate here... however, on the off chance...
Full item loot is not an issue in a full player crafted environment. Everyone dies, everyone loses items, and everyone is buying. Prices stay relatively low per death etc.
Its game like wow where items have massive game changing propertys and take weeks / months to ear that cause full loot to be an issue.
Everything I have heard so far makes me believe that DF is going to be similar to EvE online and late 90's uo where items are player made and prices are cheap, not raided generated like wow.
Screw the discard pile! I spent a lot of time admiring my Queen of Spades. Why should I have to put her in the discard pile? Oh, yeah, we are going to reshuffle, but I'll Know, this is but a pale copy of my previous Queen of Spades.
This is an analogy. Your character is one card in a pack of many. Not some sort of personal avatar that reflects your value as a human being.
I would much rather have a man dressed in a black suit with a Desert Eagle 50AE walk through the door and blast the player's brains across the screen followed by red text reading "You have died" and fade into blood trails. Electric wires are just not "Hardcore" enough ya know.

Which begs the question of why such games should be considered roleplaying games.
MMOG, that I understand, but MMORPG?
I'm waiting to express my opinion until I actually see how full loot system works~

Its not an MMORPG. Its an MMORTSG.

Well actually there arent any mmos at all which are really roleplaying games. Thats why we often see people typing made up stories into the chat channel and imagining they are roleplaying in a desperate attempt to compensate for the fact that the game doesnt cater for their roleplaying needs. Its quite sad to watch actually. Meanwhile the non-roleplayers just ignore them and get on with playing the game which was designed for them.
"Greetings. I am Lathorien the Elven brother of King Dagor"
"No you're not. I've completed the game twice and it doesnt ackowledge this fact. How could it? The story is pre-written and players cant play any part in it or change it in any way. You're just making it up"
"Shhh I'm a roleplayer. I'm pretending I'm his brother ok"
"But....ummm......why are you pretending to play a game when you could actually BE playing this one.....ya know....the one you are paying money for right now?"
"Because.....well......because I like using my imagination. I like to create epic stories and go on heroic adventures where I commit acts of great bravery and all the people across the land recognise my honourable deeds"
"yeah....ummm......sorry mate but you're in the wrong game. Have you ever tried playing an actual roleplaying game before?"

The whole game is based around a full loot system, so they won't be changing it anytime soon. When people want them to remove full loot, or are scared of losing their items or whatever, I don't think they realize that the loot system and item system is not like that of WoW or games similar to it. WoW is centered around Item collecting and geting that epic weapon. Full loot in a wowlike game wouldnt work.
Carebear is all the theme park games out there that don't have real PVP with item looting. Why complain about one of the few MMOGs that isn't carebear? I swear you haters are useless.

This is a joke right? UO is no longer full loot. It has catered to the Insure all items crowed.
it seems alot of people think that this is the typ of game were you have to get atached to your gear. YOU DONT DO THAT IN DF. this game is not about getting the best gear out there just like every one ells on the server. realy your gear can only be as good as how sucsefull you are . if you want good gear you have to make cash or hunt for stuff to make it and always remaber its expandable.
want to keep the awsome sword you got... DONT DIE
you Die and none of your clan mate's revive you ((or the enimie deals the death blow so thay cant)) than your corps will probably be empty.
the real question how Expansive and expandable will your gear be.
Better gear meens you have a slight advantige in a fight, how ever it also runs a higher risk if you die. ((because it cost more))
sounds pritty fare to me
for that matter, why not play counter strike or halo?
seriously, I would try full loot just to try it out. It's just a game, right? It will not hurt you sitting at your little desk for your little guy to die and be robbed. Besides, it might make me better at playing the game, and it might be fun even if all i do is run around nekkid trying to chew the heels of the guy that took my newbie survival knife and scuffed up sandals. Who knows? maybe they won't even think i'm worth the time it takes to kill me...
Maybe you and aventurine can come to some sort of compromise, that way when YOUR toon dies in the game world you can have what you want and simply cease to be. How bout that? Optional perma death for those who think that full loot is just a mite too carebearish.
So basicly you're saying the game should have perma-death? Yeah brilliant idea. Do you have any more awesome ideas like that one? How about the game uninstalls itself and cancels your account afterwards too?
There are some who actually would consider that far more hardcore than a "mere full-loot" system, which they would consider pointless because you can simply replace it all.
Not saying I agree with them... I think a perma-death rule set would be a terrible idea in a pay-to-play MMO. I'm just saying that there are those out there who would consider even DF to be "weak".
and the cash shop selling asphalt..." - Mimzel on F2P/Cash Shops
Personally I think that "Trials of Ascension" (rip) idea of featuring permadeath but having 100 lives is a very good one. It might give a sense of your character aging and nearing death, while providing enough lives for you to feel safe with deaths caused by lag and other unavoidable situations.
ah, i always get a good giggle from reading haters post. My little thread was to be taken more lightly, maybe i didn't make it extremely enough. oh well. I always say that there is no idea that can't be balanced.
"what if they put in a aoe stun that does a knockback"
"that would be so broken!"
"what if they make that player have only 1 hp then?"
"that would make him a gimp"
somehow a broken ability on a gimp i think would balance it out.
anyway, i degress. I was merely making a point that yes, it could be more hardcore, and if a game is balanced around skill, then level shouldn't really matter.
Although reading i do have a new question, is gear really make no difference? wearing cloth is equal to plate? if not, then someone who dies a lot and has no money wont have gear, and kind of makes it feed into itself, the more you die, the easier it is to die. Which brings up the next step, is buying gear going to be that easy? I understand a player ran economy normally drives prices down to fairly cheap, but normally there is still an amount of cost to where a player says it isn't worth my time. Is there a route for a broken player in this world? Or will i need to work on my begging skill? man i hate when guards kill you when you beg.
Its overrated, but there are so few games that have full loot, might as well make a few games with it. So its cool.

To the OP:
Carebears are welcome, heck, we hope you decide to play. It's easy ganking and easy target practice for the other PvPers. You'll find a lot of us are a tad more difficult than a WoW NPC on auto-attack.
So I hope to see you in-game soon.
