Thinking about giving war a try

As the title states I am thinking about giving war a go.  Was looking for some advice for a good realm er world er whatevr it's called.  Looking for one (server) that is balanced regarding population and hopefully a good healthy community.  Thanks in advance for any advice or help.

well if you want a good open rvr realm to play on i would suggest you play on dark crag. these are the more fun servers to play on imo since there is alot more rvr activity than normal servers. i also play on a core server called ironfist. not a bad server its a med/med server where as dark crag is a high/high one

I play on Praag, pretty much always med/med and hits med/high as well at times.  There are 18 servers now with very healthy/active populations.  Pick one that fits your style and has at least med/med and you will be fine.

Thank you for the info.  Also, any recomendations concerning class selection.  Meaning what is really needed the most, or which class are there the least of.  Or any classes that are gimped or OP.  Again thanks for the info.

If you're planning on giving WAR a go i'd make sure you have a decent rig as the specs are pretty high. Other than that, roll a knight and join us on order. They're a really kickass class imo.

Actually i just got my new rig together on wednesday so im set in that regard.  I was thinking of going the melee route.  Is  knight comparable to a paladin or something aloong those lines.

Hey, sorry to hijack your thread, but I am also thinking of giving WAR a go,

does it come with a month free or something similar, or do you pay for the first month?

You get a month included as in all P2P MMOs. You will have to give them you credit info or get a game card also however (but you can cancel before actually paying any cash), all MMOs have the same system basicly.

    Ok, thanks :)

any idea if they're planning on adding a free trial any time?

Nah, the Knight of the Blazing Sun is more of a pure tank class, good defense but medium damage. You might like the High Elf Swordmaster for melee DPS. The Empire's Warrior Priest is comparable to a Paladin, so you may enjoy that class a swell.

    Gonna go for Order,

I don't like the look of any dwarf classes, which out of the other order races would be classed as DPS? They're all slightly ambiguous and I can't really tell..

    Empire:

ranged DPS - Brightwizard -> huge dps but in cost of sacrificing suvivability. They can be labeled as "glass cannon" class. Combustion mechanic, meaning more combustion you build with your abilities, more dmg you do but can also do dmg to yourself.

melee DPS - Witch Hunter -> they are similar to wow's rogue with building points ending in execution. Great dmg, least survivability of order's melee classes, have stealth and look cool with their hats.

    High Elves:

ranged DPS - Shadow Warrior -> archer type of class(no need to buy arrows), have mobility and long range. Good class for annoying healers (confirmed from my zealot's perspective)

melee DPS - White Lion -> melee pet class. Good dmg, have range closing abilities, wear big 2h axes and unleash heal upon battlefield.

That's it shortly for no dorfs dps classes. Hope it helps!

Thanks for the information, makes things a little less confusing :)

I have to ask, what is swordmasters role then?

I think out of those, witch hunter or shadow warrior would suit me best.

Were 'knights' brought out in an update?

Swordmaster is specialist in anti-magic tanking. He can also dish good dmg but never as other melee dps archetypes. Of course he lasts longer and it's easier to go to front lines as SW than i.e. Witch hunter.

Knight of the blazing sun and destro's blackguard are recently implemented in game as last 2 missing tanks - in a way that evey race has 1 melee dps, 1 rdps, 1healer and 1 tank. That makes war having 18 classes atm, with 2 melee dps missing (greenskin and dwarven). When will they be implemented or will they be it's not yet certain.

And as for dwarven dps, they have it with Engineer. They don't have melee dps tho, because Hammerer was pulled back in beta and imo it wont make it back. I bet on slayers

Any suggestions concerning server choice.  I'm looking for one with a good community, I've heard that the community is lacking a little.  I would like to find one with a heathly pop an also people wanting to work together.

since we're asking noob questions are witch unters balanced yet and how in general has class balanced changed since release. they seemed really weak ass before and tanks seemed to be overpowered, especially when I rolled one it was ridiculously easy.

I would recommend Phoenix Throne. The teamwork is top notch and the population numbers are great, on both order and destruction. It is an RP server however its not much beyond naming enforcement. Most of the server are non-rpers, just people looking for a fun mature community.

Waiting for: A skill-based MMO with Freedom and Consequence.
    Woe to thee, the pierce-ed.

Skullthrone (a normal server) has a pretty good population and there's alot of RVR goign on...far more RVR then pve / scenarios since patch 1.1.  Most people are friendly (there are asshats n barrens chatters but all games have that).    I've met some pretty cool people in T1 on Skull Throne most of us are all headed to T2 together.
