So I am a huge fan of The Lord of the Rings saga, movies and books, and im wondering if this game is worth the money. Ive heard mixed things on it and ive heard its like a clone of wow and i dont really like wow so much. so would it be worth my time and money to play this?

This is a good game you may want to give a go with the trial if it still available. If a game have quest and a UI similar to wow to be a wow clone than yes it is (wow is a clone of EQ than) but for me this is not, the lore is very good, the graphics too and just running around middle earth and explore it it's fun.

Anyway this is my opinion  but i think you should try it to see yourself because if i listen all people who flaming a game with the '' this is a wow clone'' and dont play it because of that i would have nothing to play

ok let me give you alittle about lord of the ring online,

as far as what they say about its like wow... the mechanic of the game is similar to wow. by that means controling your charecter and their user friendly which i think its a good thing sense wow has a good userfriendly control and UI. lotro is all about the jurney and exploring the world. you can't rush this game well you can, but then you find your self going back and putting the pieces together again. there is a really nice lore in the game and there is actually little cut  that show you the story line those are book. thats how they update the game. they come with little update known as book which it reveal more of the story line and new future. as far as skill you buy the skill but ur other things like intell or agility is obtain by doing quest or killing certain amount of mobs. you also unlock titles by doing different things. game is pretty polished and has a really nice looking world. not much a pvp so if your a pvp fan this may not be your choice however there is a unique pvp system which you can pvp as a monster, which call monster play. they just had a new expantion. update are very friguent. i left not when AoC came and them moved to war and when i came back i see so many new thing. like hobby i still gotta log in today and findout what is that all about. then there is player housing which you can store stuff in your house. there is costum cloth which i guess there is no stat on it but its just for look and you can change to it whenever u want well not so sure about it thats a new added thing also... over all i think its a fun game and have a nice story line and community. just go with what you think, you like lotro then give it a try. there is going to be 1000 people here telling you it suckes its boring, combat is not fun bla bla... I tried lots of other mmo and it wasn't something I... let me say again I enjoy that doesnt mean someone else may not enjoy. i like lotro story and resub again to it and still enjoying it. hope this is helpfull.

    To the OP:

Hello friend, I can only speak in my own experience, but for all the years back when I was a 5 year old kid, I got into The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings.

I really do not know what type of games you are enjoying.  I'm presuming that you have soome experience with some of them.

I, personally, have tried almost all of them.  Some were good.  Others were terrible.  I have enjoyed many, but there have been several that have been vrey disappointing.

Now, at them moment, in my humble opinion, Lotro is the best.  I shall not bore you with all the rule-books, etc.  All you need to know, is that you will learn the game, simply, but slowly enough to get used to all of it's nuances.

I would really like to you join us, as it would take us all night to explain all of the magical, amazing things that are left for us explorers to find.  An Amazing game, well worth playing.

    Oh and Maxpower -

Try and get onto the EU -RP server Laurelin,  and look out for Turkonan, and my friends and I will get you set up with some nice gear, weapons, and even money.  We are currently assimilarting a Rank 11 Kin, which will grants us even more perks.  Oh, and it is a very friendly server, so I hope to hear from you in the not-too-distant future.

Yeah, LOTRO is probably the best full-featured MMORPG out at the moment, especially for a fan of the books (more so than the movies). The game is very true to the books, and the artwork and style is evocative of that "flavor".

You can always tell someone who read the books in-game, because they know who Tom Bombadil is, and where he lives.

Ole' Tom sure does make a cheery fire...

I remember back in 1999, folks kept asking me if I was stockpiling food. I always answered, "No, I'm stockpiling ammo and making a list of people who are stockpiling food"
