This is the dumbest game name ever

GemmaGemma Member UncommonPosts: 337

I thought Huxley was a goofy name, but this name isn't even goofy, its just plain dumb.  APB makes no sense at all and my first thought was that it was a forum game or something.  What were they thinking?

I find nothing wrong with either APB or Huxley.

If you read anything on APB you would know the game is based around two faction, Criminals and the Enforcement.  This is where the named All Points Bulletin comes in to play.

In case you are in need of an education, here is a blurb from wiki:

An All Points Bulletin (APB) is a broadcast issued from one law enforcement agency to another. It typically contains information about a wanted suspect who is to be arrested or a person of interest, whom law enforcement officers are to look for. They are usually dangerous or missing persons.

    It's a Jeep thing. . .

Wait a second... so because there are cops and robbers in this game, All Points Bulletin makes sense? You've lost me....

No normal person will know what that means.

Are you serious? Have you ever watched like Cops or any type of show involving cops fiction or not? They put out APB's on suspects all the time....

The title Huxley is derived right from the backstory of the game, in the same fashion that hundreds of other games are. APB not only fits the theme of the game, but is one of the gameplay mechanics that players will encounter. I think most people will be able to figure it out just fine and/or read about the game first.

APB isn't that dumb. Never seen a cop program or movie?

Huxley however sounds really stupid, whatever they use it for in the background stiry.

I think you missed the important part of Locklain's post ...

"An All Points Bulletin (APB) is a broadcast issued from one law enforcement agency to another. It typically contains information about a wanted suspect who is to be arrested or a person of interest, whom law enforcement officers are to look for. They are usually dangerous or missing persons."

Calling the game APB does make sense and IMO is more original then calling the game some wannabe gangsta name.

A normal person WOULD know what APB means or would research it and have no trouble finding it's meaning.

This, absolutely. The name has significance and relates to the game's real-world equivalent, and connects it to what the game is trying to be (which is, essentially, cops and robbers). I know if this were in the hands of almost any other company, they certainly would have given it some wannabe "gangsta" name and ruined a large part of the game's appeal.

With that said, I would bet money that this game will be unplayable because of all the dumb kids who roll criminals trying to be "uber leet" and "hardcore gangsta."

One of the great features in this game is the customization.  The customization allows players to be whatever kind of cop they want.. what I'm trying to say is you don't have to be a "boy in blue".  You can be an "uber leet", "harcore gangsta" cop.  I plan on being a criminal when they game is released just because I already have a group of people to form a gang.. but we'll be playing for competition so if there aren't any good cops I'm sure we'll have no problem going from "eastside gangstas" to bad ass street cops.

I am confident that this feature will help even the playing field and make it more interesting.

I think the only goofy thing aout the name Huxley is that the dev's actually thought that most people would get it as a reference.

Google it, buy it, and read a book, it will help you out in soooo many ways.

That might be useful, if the game Huxley was based off the books by Aldous Huxley, but its not. So it's just a stupid name.

Also I think APB is a fine name. I'm curious in seeing how this game innovates in the genre.

I agree Huxley is a stupid name however when i first heard APB(All Points Bulletin) instinct kicked in and i thought instantly cops and criminals. The name fits perfectly I have no idea what this OP is talking about i think he has been living under a rock or he is just a 7 year old.

    QFT

As soon as I saw the name I figured Cops and Criminals type MMO. So either I am not normal(very possible) or the OP must not be familiar with any police phrases. Though I could see this name making no sense to someone not familiar with American lexicon.

I agree with pretty much everyone in that APB makes perfect sense most people understand what an APB is simply through the term's use in the media alone. Huxley though, yea it is kind of a weird name and to be honest I always get that mixed up the the clothing line Hurley.

I never knew what APB ment till someone said it on here.  I have watched Cops too not a whole lot but Ive seen many shows and never heard them say it.  Or if they did I wasn't paying attention.

So now the name makes sense to me.   I guess im not normal then, which is fine with me, I like to be different.

  • wolfmannwolfmann Member Posts: 1,159

As a "foreigner" I instantly knew what the game was about when I heard the name APB.

But then again, I'm an old gamer, who used to play this lil gem of a game on coinops and my Amiga, called APB

Terrible name for an MMO. Flows off the tongue as well as acid. Anyone that doesn't like shit cop programs in the US (I'm looking at you CSI), and basically everyone outside, isn't even going to know what it even means. I'm sure it will be changed before release.

  • them4trixthem4trix Member UncommonPosts: 19

are you truely that noob that you don't play games cause you don't like the title? apb if a fine name it's not the best i agree on that. but still it's an original idea and will propably become quite good even though most people will see it as another gta rip off

  • thamighty213thamighty213 Member UncommonPosts: 1,637

how can it be a GTA rip off when its a game by the creator of GTA ?

  • them4trixthem4trix Member UncommonPosts: 19

though thats not my point, (and btw i said MOST people will see it as an gta rip off) a lot of people base there reactions on a first trailer or just the title of the game! this is just nonesense. i think you should atleast look at the site/forums and play a game before you can make any statements about it. thats my point dude!
