I'm thinking about going a plunge into MMOGs again for the Holiday season, and I'm willing to get something that has a monthly fee/box cost, but I don't know if there is really any MMOG worth playing.
I prefer sanbox over linear - but I want content as well. No timers, no limits. I want sandbox that allows me to create my own content. Many times I would play a MMOG and be like, "if they just added this in here..."
Is this the right time, or should I wait? Should I just forget it and stick to regular games?

check out EVE Online and the Saga of Ryzom.
Those are the two that I can think of right now.

I absolutely loathe Eve Online. I tried it, and for the love of me, I could not get myself into it. I'm sorry, but if I just can't move freely using w, a, s, and d, then I'm not going to play it.
I'm thinking about Ryzom ... I'm actually going to install it now.
There must be more options out there, right?
mmm...not really.
You should keep an eye on Darkfall though. I think Earthrise is also going for the sandbox type of game, but neither are out yet.
2009 will definitely hold promise for the sandbox community.
