If you only have 4gigs of ram you do not need 64bit vista go with 32bit. unless its already installed then if it is you can always upgrade more ram down the road.

No need for cross-fire the 4870 ati cards are monsters in size and unless you have a really big tower full size your not gonna be able to get 2 of those monsters in there. One 4870 is more then enough and will save you some bucks. Keeping everything cool is the key to comps lastiing longer and video cards. In my opion.

Hmm, let's see... 1000W is probably a lot more than you really need I run my quad with a corsair 750W and I have 5 harddrives and a GTX 280 card. If you plan to have more than 5 harddrives 1000 is right, otherwise you are just wasting some bucks.

I don't like Asus for motherboards, they have dropped a lot in quality the last few years. I would go for a A-BIT card (not the chinese fatality cards but the japanese ones) or a MSI card.

Personally I prefer the GTX 280 GFX card but the 4870 is a very nice card too. I am not to impressed by Gigabyte though, the cooling system on them are not that good, Sparkle, Gainward and MSI are better.

I would change the motherboard and lower the power supply. Also I would get my GFX card from another manufacturer. Looks good otherwise.

Well I don't know when you plan on buying it but the new core i7 platform is right around the corner so you may want to wait. As for changes I don't see a lot of benefits of an x48 board if your not going to be running in crossfire, and the P45 boards are actually suppose to be better overclockers.

Looks pretty good but what I did on my last build that increased performance *dramatically* and my satisfaction, f**k yeahs, etc. with it was adding 15k rpm drives.  7200 rpm drives these days just aren't fast enough, you've got great components just bad drive speed.  Put these 15k rpm drives ( Raptors )  in there with what you've got and it will be impressive...  They don't have incredible capacity but you can add another drive / array with more capacity at 7200 rpm for media storage / whatever.  Just be sure that your OS and games are installed on the 15k drives...

Does making the switch from 4k ram to 8k ram make much of a difference in games anyway? even with my 4gigs, i have never met a game, no teven crysis, that has used over 2.3 gigs of ram to run the application.

I tend to have other non game applications running in the background, so the extra ram is a benifit.

Thermaltake just rescently came out with a new CPU cooler that looks cool.

    Thermaltake SpinQ $59.99

Also I would get any Windows Vista 64-bit other then Home over Windows XP 64-bit.  Vista has better support on 64-bit drivers.

For the price your paying for the cpu and motherboard you may be better off getting an i7 system. Get a 920 cpu, x58 board, good ram and heatsink and you should be in heaven. Just remember that if you overclock it you have to be careful about the voltages foro ddr3 memory.

Actually, x2 7200 RPM hard drives in a RAID 0 are cheaper than a raptor AND faster(put together), you do sacrifice some stability, and they will require more maintenance.

As for the case, for 2 4870's maybe bigger, depends on how good the cooling is.  My suggestion is an Xclio case... they look frickin awesome as in the a36 has pretty much 4 fans, 1 rear, one top and two MASSIVE ones mounted front and side, giving the case a "jet engine" look-and they're fair priced.

It's almost 2010, and I am just not wiling to tolerate clunky graphics while being told that "gameplay is more important than graphics". That excuse won't wash with me any more. I expect my games to have both good graphics and good gameplay.

Everthing looks ok for a decent build, though I'll wait until 2009 when Intel release their new motherboards that do away with the front side bus design opening up the true power of a CPU.
