LoTRo - which was your favourite area ?

A brief piece of silliness to amuse us while servers are down - which is your favourite PvE area in SoA?

Factors to consider: maybe it's the beauty of the landscape; perhaps you just love the design & challenge of the quests; or maybe you had a particularly memorable Fellowship that has stayed with you; or perhaps a favourite instance that you just keep coming back to?

Whatever it is - please indicate the part of Eriador (so far) that has, for you, been the best part of Shadows Of Angmar.

(Note to PvP enthusiasts - Unfortunately I've omitted Ettens from the list because (i) we're only allowed 10 options; and (ii) not everyone goes there - whereas we all HAVE to go, sooner or later, to all the PvE areas).

Please feel free to explain choices, argue the toss, grumble about the inadequate design of the poll or just bring our attention to your absolutely favourite bit of this wonderful representation of Middle Earth!

(Oh, and the 'Evendim' option can be taken to include Annuminas, 'Misty Mountains' Helegrod etc etc)

I voted for Breeland, simply because my first toon was a human, and that is the zone where I first fell in love (if that is not too strong a term for my affection towards this game) with Lotro.

I've noticed that Bree and the Shire stick out, and possibly for the same reasons.  I would actually have thought the Shire was more fondly thought off than Bree, but again, it is probably because most people have went human over hobbit, and that is the area where they got into the game.

If you were to remove this factor, and to look back on what you think was the best zone 'objectively', it would probably be a different answer.  For me, it would probably be Angmar, because I enjoy the quests there, and also the mood.  The graphical subtleties, are quite evident as well.

Have not noticed if Rivendell was on the list.   I would have thought that a lot of people like this area the best, just because of the emotive ambience, with the sound, and the look, etc.  Or would that come under the Trollshaws?

I can tell you one thing for sure.  I cannot wait to see what Moria is like.  More so than any other game I can think of.   Probably in a couple of weeks time, I will have a new number one area!

I am in the minority here i know, but i chose lone lands. I have read many forumns that claim this area has a negative effect on subscriptions due to it being the area most people hit when their trial is up. I chose this area for 1 reason only. Garth argarwen. To me this instance was and is the seperation of players. It is an enormous pain to find a group, and harder still to find one that will stay together to complete all the quests, This is my own opinion however, but the players that do all this chain have had to learn their toons strengths and weaknesses and become better for it. I no longer play Lotro, but i am coming back for the expansion. To back up my words to my statement it is my intention to find a fellowship and run GA weekly for the kin. I had a 50 LM/Hunter when i left for other mmo's. I have not yet found the level of fun that i did in this instance.

Lone Lands is the reason I quit the 1st time, and it's the reason that I won't continue after the latest free weekend. I absolutely hated that zone.

The shire was absolutely awesome to me.  I loved running pies and mail around.  Nice change of pace from killing stuff.  Getting to see what was going on in that quarry named Scary and other places on the map in the book that I had always wondered about was also really cool.  Obviously Turbine made up all the details, but it was still neat to be running around on that map.  For me, the quests and even the backround NPC dialogue when you run around there really capture the flavor of the Shire from the books admirably.

I don't want to write this, and you don't want to read it. But now it's too late for both of us.

If you do every quest in the Breelands and then hit the North Downs, you barely have to set foot in the Lone Lands.  You actually level faster if you do that because you end up doing a lot of orange quests in the North Downs.  I have a character that has only been to the Lone Lands once for his book quests and is now in Evindim.

The game doesn't do a good job of telling you that it's possible, you get noseringed into the LL by several quest chains.  However, I can assure there's no reason to spend much time there if you don't like it.

Lone Lands is probably one of the least "spectacular" zones of all. It's built like a long, boring desert canyon with artificial mobs... Only highlight is the Weathertop instance.

Which brings up another question. Why are LotRO developers so afraid of flat surfaces? Make lone lands, or at least the eastern part of it, a flat basin and it would be another unique zone. Like the salt lake in WoW or the commonlands in EQ2.

Oh yea, but back OT, the best zone was North Downs for me. Hit the nail on the head, pines, grasslands, cloudy weather, second bestis the shire, just because they managed to transport it almost exactly from tolkiens works.

I would also have to agree with the North downs followed by the Shire the Evendim all 3 area's just captivated me. I would class Angmar as the Worse before Lone lands, god i hate Angmar get on mount, get dismounted fight for life, get on mount, get Dismounted run for life e.t.c.e.t.c.  Good god all these LoTRO threads are making me want to come back :) i think i have had my break from over exhausting myself gonna have to resub i think.

Voted Trollshavs , but Shire is also an excelent area

  • AndraxxAndraxx Member UncommonPosts: 256

Voted Evendim. The scenery is fantastic, and some nice variation between the Branduin River and the lake itself. Could have done with less swimming though.

After that, Trollshaws,  North Downs and The Shire.

Now that you mention it, aye, I agree with the Lone Lands being the worst zone.   My 'honeymoon' period off the game probably ended at this zone.   It was the first time that I felt any sense of grind with the game, and I realised somewhat sadly, that I had not discovered the 'Holy Grail' and am still to find it (if I ever will).

Thankfully, I then discovered Trestlebridge and the North Downs, and was able to forget my somewhat bland time exploring The Lone Lands (quite aptly named).  I did love the view of Weathertop though, and how it got more detailed as you got closer.

Anyway, stroll on the Mines of Moria.  Which begs the question.  Will people refer to Moria as MM, when they are looking for a group?  In which case, won't this cause a lot of problems with people mistaking it as Misty Mountains?  (I always look for the downside in things, or problems that don't exist, one of the flaws in my character)

I love the feel and accuracy of the Shire. It's so nicely done, I don't even mind the endless postal and pie delivery missions. I've spent way too much time in the Shire! I also love Evendim, but the swimming does get tedious.

Over all, LOTRO remains the most beautiful and polished MMO I've ever played. Every area is a joy.
