Mercenary Got Wrong?

Nel-TuNel-Tu Member Posts: 42

Well, We can't really have everything here in this world, so can you share some experiences on playing Atlantica online. So, we all know that Mercenary system is quite a good feature of Atlantica, so I'm curious, do you have any doubts with the mercenaries you hired for your party? Share it already

I've had a lot of replacements of mercenaries. My most recent one is exchanging my spearman for a cannoneer for my AoE build. You change mercenaries as you build your final formation. At higher levels, you can level up a mercenary quickly.

hmm.. as of now, i'm still unsure of my build so i keep mercs at the merc room for future use. i level them up first by substituting them with highlvl mercs during quest completion.

I myself have replaced to of my level 60 mercs for a new ones since i'm changing my build. It is rare for playeres to not change there mercs as time passes by. 'cause at higher level you get to, say, unlock higher type of mercs(class c and/or b) and you then create a build and do some changes which results to hiring new ones and letting go of others.

I haven't hired a c class mercenary that is why I really do not know if I chose my mercenaries wrong. But whenever I observed the weekly championships, the higher levels still got their spearman and gunners with them. And also, I have just realized the importance of stunning opponents during PvP that is why I am pretty contented with my gunners.

Hmmm.  I rarely do PVP.....once in a while I got back to the free league have a match and remember why I prefer PVE and go back to questing, crafting, arena betting, sparring, marketing, guilding, etc.

Anyway, with that in mind, I have a full team of 9.  I have every available merc my level allows except for the Beast Trainer of which I will get once I go back and kill Taraka.  Then I will have to store a merc.  I have never had to store a merc yet since I have slots in my formation for all 8 I have.

I have two swordsman, two vikings, gunner and my main is a gunner, an artilleryman, a monk and a shaman.  For PVE, it works well, I am either freezing two rows or stunning, I have artillery for deep insight if I don't have health check scrolls, monk for protect and holy word, a shaman with a high blessing of life for healing, two gunners for better stun, and my two tank swordsman with best armor, weps, rings.

What will I do once I have the BT?  I will probably put the lower level viking away for a while and see how it goes with only a single freeze or I may put the artillery man away depending.  I don't know but I am anticipating more fun...I am also working on my witch quest.

I haven't really seriously thought about my build but then again I'm really not into PvP... I am curious about different combo attacks in game so I may want a build that could do almost all there is. But, alas! I have yet to hire class C mercs! Anyway, I probably start thinking about my build once I can have all 9 mercs.

I've been thinking about my line up for a few day's.  I got survivability pretty much down.   I just have to figure out what gives the most bang for it's buck on my last 2 slots.   I am only up to 8/8 party (lvl 45).

At 7/7 my pvp line up was.

Sword / Sword /  Staff (me)

    Gunner / Axe /

    Monk / Shaman.

Strategy = deception:   My staff was bait.  People see a staff up front  a go "OMG Squishy"  not taking into consideration protection.   People would blow their load  each turn going straight for my Staff only for my staff to be full hp next turn. :P   No way were they going to kill my staff at that lvl without killing my monk first.   Way to much healing not to mention protection.

I did make and error once and someone managed to actually kill my staff first.    Made my way to league 15 coldn't get any farther.

    Con's:

    * I couldn't Holy Guard my front row.   Protection was an absolute must have buff / heal that I had to have each round.

*Not everyone is taken in by the bait.

I got my 8/8 yesterday.   Currently lvl 45.   I changed my line up a bit.   I wanted to mainly start using Holy Guard on my front line.   My Swords are alot of dps to have constantly frozen axed doing nothing.

    Sword / Sword / Axe

Staff (me) / gunner / spear

    Monk / Shaman

The spear (It's dmg seems to be lacking) is in question (maybe the gunner too.).    It's up to lvl 35 and I am not that impressed with it.   My front line lasts quite along time compared to most teams I have been up against.  Even 9/9 teams.    But again, once my swords drop I loose a hell of alot of DPS.   Only thing left after the swords is my gunner.   Basic attack of it is good.   Wild Shot is a fast recharging skill and it's dmg is pretty nasty not to mention the splash of both.   Most likely I will end up trying alot of combinations untill I find what suits me.

Shaman tanks are viable if you have very good gear. They have the highest MDEF out of all the mercenaries, but they have very low physical defense. If you plan on having a shaman frontline, better make sure that they have good equipment... that 1k def isn't much at higher levels.

  • ZinraeZinrae Member Posts: 50

Yeah, I'm glad to see you moved your staff main back. That's just a horrible idea later. There's people that can easily take it down in 1 turn. I'm even afraid to put my axe main with 12500 def with prot on the front

I don't know what spells your staff main has, but you're probably going to want to ditch your shaman sometime.

I have an advice, regarding who don't like so much FL

In order to obtain some C-grade mercenary ( i.e. Princess - Prophet - Oracle..) you need some Fame points. And the only way to gain 'em it's partecipating/winning in Free League.

It's your choice. But if you won't hire Oracle, you'll simply miss the best healer in the whole game

  • ZinraeZinrae Member Posts: 50

You don't need much Fame for those quests. The highest I've seen so far is 75 for the Lady Knight quest, and that doesn't take long to get. You can also get some fame by sparring in Rome (has to be against guys within 10lvls of you i think)

  • denisfenixdenisfenix Member Posts: 30

Yes, it's true. It doesn't ask for a lot of Fame points. But I was just saying that if someone never does FL or Sparring, then he will never be able to complete those quests

The heal from it not so much the def buff.    The biggest issue was being frozen axed all the time.  Loosing a healer  for a few turns or someone to guard dispell.

Right now I have this set up for PvP:

    Sword/Lady Knight/Sword

    Gunner/Gunner/Inventor

    Oracle/Cannon(me)/Artilleryman

After 3 turns the game is over, since my inventor/gunners will stun lock an entire enemy formation .  Not to mention Inventor's machine are the best thing in the game (imho)

My set up for PVE is:

    Sword/Lady Knight/Sword

    Witch/Gunner/Inventor

    Oracle/Cannon(me)/Artilleryman

In this set up I switch a gunner out for my witch.  My witch can stop caster mobs by using mana drain, but more importantly, I love meteor+2 cannon since it pretty much decimates everything (aoe ftw!)

    My Guild party set up:

    Sword/Lady Knight/Sword

    Witch/Gunner/Gunner

    Inventor/Cannon(me)/Artilleryman

This set up I use strictly for my 3man guild party that I use frequently (almost never solo pve now).  In my 3man party I am designated for maximum AoE damage, while my 2 partymates are designated for single target dps (archers and junk for bosses), and healer (oracle and staff(main) work good together)

i think you must master all the skills of mercs in order what are thier specialties and abilities although mercs were powerful they have advantages and disadvantages make an strategy more defense is defense and more offense is offense. think what is your tank or who is your gunner and who is your healer. i think this strategy might help though

Im not so concerned about the mercenaries i hired, but rather how best to use them.....I cant decide if it is more effective to go with their basic spell or to use their speial...I tried a couple that specced only with their special and really it doesnt seem that much better......Also many of those take alot more AP before you can use them and often the fights are either over or only a mob left when the spell is ready.......

mercenaries are important factors in the game, one should choose them wisely, use them wisely, upgrade them wisely and put them in a good strategic formation...

I was messing around today and I think I actually found a pretty decent/funny build if anyone wants massive aoe damage.

Ok, so in my merc room (which is full atm ) I brought out a shaman I have that has brutal will maxed. So the build ended up as:

    Sword/Sword/Sword

    Artilleryman/Cannon(me)/ Artillyerman

    Shaman/Oracle/ Inventor

I always figured that artilleryman was pretty weak when you deal damage to a single target or maybe 2 or 3 targets only, only usefull when you hit 4/5 targets.  I guess no I was totally wrong.  I used my shaman to cast brutal will on my middle row and to my suprise they tore up everything in sight.  I think that Brutal Will has an increased effect on cannons or something.  The reason I think that is if you cast brutal will on a sword or gunner(which I usually do after stunlocking) you only see maybe 150ish damage increase.  On my cannons I was seeing well over 150 damage increase ON EACH TARGET OMGZ!!!  I cast Brutal Will on them and the longest a fight has lasted after that is 2 turns.  Brutal Will + Cannons =

Edit: reading over my post it's kind of confusing about the damage increase.  The damage for sword and gun increased is about 150 total, so around 50 for gun.  With the cannon though it added about 150 damage to each target it hit
