At least you guys managed to get in game. I went to create an account and never got my activation link. So I contacted thier support and I swear I think these are the same idiots who work for SOE or Lucas Arts, because it's going on a week and they still can't activate my account. lol

First they tried telling me my zip code wasn't valid and now they are telling me I have to reimput my dates. My last email I sent I asked them what dates because I had only one date to provide and that was my D.O.B. which I regave them. I haven't heard from them since. To be honest if thier tech support is that crappy I am not really sure I wanna check this game out anymore. lol Think I might end up giving this one a miss.

It's not a game, It's basically a virtual chatroom like second life except targetted towards the rich upper class. It's not really targetted towards gamers who unfortunatly get sucked in by the hype that you can get "large amounts of real money"...

Sadly, this is so true.  If you don't deep pockets, your typically won't get too far.  And seeing as people have spent 75k or so on "virtual malls", I'd think this is definately geared towards richer folks.

Granted, I have heard some success stories about people starting with nothing, and actually making something of themselves, with no depositing, but this is rather rare, and I get the feeing it takes alot of business sense.

Some gamers may know how to run a business, or work an economy, but I'm personally thinking most don't.  I know myself, I can't.  If I could, I'd probably be a billionaire in EvE.  But alas, I scrape by with what i got in that game, and same with EU.

Best thing to remember though, it really isn't a game that has levels, and the quests and such.  It is sandbox like, but with the harsh reality that would be our world involved.

i have been on and off this game since it was live somthing like 5 years ago, 2 years in i was sick of trying to sell my sweat to players and tossed my character 50 buck to get armor and a gun, now i can get on and hunt and get money to pay for the ammo i used and repair my gear, it's fun to pass some time but  nothing i would play 4 hours a day or even 4 hours a month hah

This is not a game. Its one of the more funnier scams I read about. Kudo's to the devs for that.

The players who spend all the rl money for ingame items (that also decay!!) are idiots imo. But that is the funny part.

What about the ones who actually make money, Like Neverdie and Deathifier, are they idiots too?

I don't think they actually make money. I think Neverdie has a special contract where they give him some money. They actually shut down the server when that one property went on auction house because a real player almost outbid him. It was all for promotion. Any normal player won't be able to obtain or do anything worth while like in beauty or coloring unless they deposit massive amounts of money.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

And your basing this on your own ideas when you dont even play the game.  Neverdie bought the asteroid for Buyout. That means that there was an auction but he paid the top price for it immediately and bought it.  If you want further information on the term buyout check wikipedia or something.  FYI they do actually earn money from the game (and you forgot to comment on Deathifier - who i actually know ingame and he does earn quite a sum per month). And not only individual people are getting money from land.  Whole Society's (guilds) have the capability to own and earn from land area.  There are Land Grab events every 6 months where society's (20+ soc's) who fight it out (pk) to win the deed to the land.  Thats one of the events that are held by MindArk.  Once the society wins the land they get to keep and earn peds from it for 6 months until next land grab.

Well, let's do a little comparison on monthy costs.

Here's month-to-month fees on several popular games:

    City of Heros/Villans 11.95

    EVE 14.95

    EQ II 14.95

    Final Fantasy IX 12.95

    Star Wars Galaxies 14.99

    Tabula Rasa 14.99

    Ultima Online 12.99

    WOW II 14.99

If the OP would have deposited  a similar sum, they would have been able to get a complete starter kit for hunting or mining, and had some pocket money left.

What sets Entropia apart from these pay-to-play games is that if you don't feel like paying for a given month, you don't get cut off from the game.

The OP mentions sweating the native wildlife of Calypso.  That's a common activity for noobs that want to get some cash without depositing. Gathering dung or fruit for resale are also popular.

An explanation of sweating for those unfamiliar with EU (Now called Planet Calypso, which is the first planet in the Entropia Universe. Others will follow, my guess is 1st q of 09...) is this:  The wildlife of Calypso exude a "vibrant sweat" which can be combined with mined material to produce "Mind Essence", which is essentially the fuel for psionic powers such as teleportation, healing, etc, etc.

Gathering this sweat for resale costs a player nothing but time to do. However since EU is RCE based, it takes time to gather enough for any amount of in-game cash. No suprise here, MA is a company that wants to profit, and too many freebies will keep that from happening.

Sweating also allows newcomers to familiarize themselves with the user interface, and how stuff works in general. Sweat sales are always P2P, which reinforces the concept that the game is a social experience, and that a players in-game experience is linked to the other colonists on planet Calypso.

So,  what am I saying?  I'm saying "screw the idea of making money here, it's a freakin' game!" I'm also saying  that if a player pays in the same 10-15 dollars per month, they will have lots of fun. If they want bigger bang, they can pay in more bucks, but that's entirely up to them and their budget. :)

Ok here it is your reply from me to - "This Game Sucks"

EU ingame names -  Dash Night Shade & Andrina Night Shade yes my wife & I both play EU on a daily basis. EU society name - High Counsel.

So far what I have read in this thread has a few and I mean few valid reasons for people to assume that EU sucks as for the rest of your posts it clearly shows me that your intelligence levels are clearly not up to understanding such a complex game.

Nevertheless, be it what it is weather you wish to see as gambling, business or simply a game...there it is and you if at all a responsible adult could possible make the difficult choice of playing it or NOT....

If by ANY chance you wish for more reality then turn your PC OFF and go outside and PLAY....the world is full of interesting people and concepts ...its such a shame that so many people have the "tall poppy syndrome" I'll explain that to you all. One person makes it then all of a sudden you decide to destroy that person or persons because you failed.. once again you failed.

As far a games is concerned, it provides entertainment and like all entertainment it does actually cost money, as a business I am sure many have chosen to make it just that and they as entrepreneurs can only make such comments based on their own analysis...an as far as gambling...well life can also take you there.

Lets go one step back.....you could waste your time writing about negative things or go and enroll in a spelling course....your comments SUCK  there is no E in it. Your feeble reasons stated such as, avatar is slow running, gui to difficult and confusing. If you had half a brain you would ASK players in world for help.

Oh but I must remember that everyone who posted reasons here have been in EU for many years or months and that they all understand it flawlessly. Just because you all failed in EU does not mean that is sucks at all. If you all find EU way to intimidating and difficult please go back to playing donkey kong at any time. The bottom line is if you don't like it leave.. EU is far better off without people like you anyway.

    Dash..

    1. Horrible character movement and control.  Slow paced, stressful controls, running feels like walking!  Camera angle problems, camera sticks.
    2. Confusing and non responsive UI interface.  The UI for me anyone locks up doesn't respond or crashes.
    3. Limited ONE avatar on a account.  They should have made it like other MMOs where you can make more characters.  Cause what I bassically did I didn't bother changing anything on my avatar I just wanted to see how the game was so I didn't customize the avatar while thinking I could just delete it and create a new one.
    4. Account edited on the website... couldn't find where to do it or how to do it.  I wanted to change my email close the account possibly make another account.  Couldn't do it.  So now I have my personal information on the companies website that is just sitting there!
    5. The Entropia Universe website is not helpfull at all.  Very limited... it's feels like they don't want you to or they don't care about you being able to change or have control of your account information.  Contact Support for this that and everything!

Overall a bad an mentally painful experience I wouldn't recommend going through the trouble to even try this game. It's not worth it!

I have to admit not everyone has the patience of brain for this game.

Concerning the controls, you can configure anything yourself, i.e. you can completely customize your  keyboard...

I never crashed while doing this kind of shit, if you do, then perhaps it is your computer that sucks.

THe avatar moves slowly: as you progress in a certain skill, you will become faster. Afterall, you can't expect to be as fast as someone who plays for several years. Example: my avatar moves almost twice as fast as your fresh one for sure.

Account limitation: if you don't like your avatar, create another one and ask for a termination of the old one. Remember this is a game which deals with real money and therefore you must put in real info. If you didn't know so, because you are a missinformed noob like so many i see whining, you can change your avatar looks ingame, just talk with a player that does that for a living, ingame. The only thing you can't change that way is the gender.

To edit your account info, it's really a no-brainer: just access the "my acount" link on the  main page...... Some ppl seem to have problems in lining the eyes with words... There is another link saying: "my support".

There is usefull info about the game in dozens of sites in the web.

To the guys who say the game is about sweating and it sucks: what did you expect of a RCE? You want your money easy and ready in your account just after a few hours of gameplay? LOLz, you make me laugh. As in real life, money is hard to make. The game is not about sweating: sweating was a way Mindark found to make possible to try out the game for free, without having to deposit.. ok, it's boring at first, but when u got enough cash that way, you can try doing a lot of stuff (playing at your level).

To those who say it is impossible to play the game today and it's a money sink.

I play since 2004, i never re-sold anything except for a couple of months in the beginning to get some extra cash to get started. I have invested through the years around 200$ (an average of 4$/month) and my avatar is worth over 5.000$ nowadays. I have never ever hit a big jackpot, except for a 800$ one last year. Oh, it's because I'm favoured in the eyes of MA? lol.. It's because i entered in 2004 and got hold of ubber items? LOL again.... I hold only mid-level gear and only started to shoot down stuff seriously since last year. I was a miner before and only hunted ocasionaly. Hmm... hard to believe then.. ok.. my GF started to play last year, invested 50$ and has an avatar worth over 500$. Another soc mate had 40$ in last year and has around 300$ too. Another one plays for over 3 years with monthly deposits of  10-20$ and a couple of months ago found something worth 6.000$. This is not a game exclusive to rich ppl, as you see.

Of course, if you don't know what you're doing, you'll lose a lot. I have friends that pump hundreds of $ each month and play like crazy junkies on cocain trip and suddenly, all is gone. Ya, i guess they had fun though, remember you will only lose what you earn or put ingame, so if you lose your shirt, you can only blame yourself.

The game has no monthly fees. Several players reach a certain level of skills/knowledge/gear at which point they are on the top of the food chain and will stop making deposits in order to play. I call those ubbers.

This game is only a casino if you want to play it like that. Huge risk will mean most of the time Huge Loss or sometimes Huge Return. If it goes bad, you can only blame yourself.

The developers of the game (and this is what most of the players don't get at all) only make money from part of your decay (every weapon or tool you use will decay a bit) and not your bad loots, so they will do the same bucks independently of how your run was.

Oh, the graphs don't impress you? Cryengine is on its way...

If you find the game expensive, you are probably doing something completely wrong. Again, don't be afraid to ask for info or help in anyway (except "give me free money, u f**krs!). Teaming with someone in a hunt or entering the right society will also be helpfull. Remember some mobs are too tough or expensive to take solo and you will have to team up to kill them.

In this game, you cannot expect to be Mr ubberness in a couple of months. If you think that, you are a real nutcase :D. Those guys that are today at the top had to play for over 5 years to get there and surely deposited more than i did.

Most of all: except for a couple of cases, don't expect you will able to pay the bills playing this game. Most probably, you will lose a few bucks with it. But remember you are the one who controls the credit card :D.

Finally, i just want to say this is a very hard game, so geared especially towards an adult crowd who likes challenges. Don't expect everything to be given to you easily and in a silver plate. This game is a real challenge for survival everyday :D. If you are imaginative, methodical and humble enough to learn, you can do well. Having a big fat wallet for the stuborn ones will help of course, but it is not crucial.

Yeah, but where is the content? Where is the fun? One of the biggest reasons people leave (at least in my humble opinion) is because of this. Hell it was one of the reasons I left after nearly 2 years and why my partner quit just recently.

Don't look at Entropia with rose coloured glasses...

Very well written and thought out my friend.

    Thanks!

Well, not everyone have fun in the same way. Some have fun ingame helping out newcomers. Some have fun doing team hunts with their ingame friends. Some have fun just chatting with them. Some have fun running their businesses or societies. Some can only have fun when they hit the moneys doing some activity. Some have fun looting items they need/want. You can still do that, if you have realistical goals. Some have fun killing other players and looting them. Some have fun seeing skills go up.

And if you don't have fun you can always take a break. You don't have to pay any fees, so you can come back later, no problem about that. Just make sure to appear at least once per year or the account is wipped out.

How do I have fun: I run a society full of good-spirited persons. There is good camaradery between all and we often make inside events or team hunts together. We meet at least once a year to drink and eat and talk about the avatars and the game. Of course there are periods of frustration, but we try to be there for the other person. Example: if someone reaches the point of selling everything and decides to return or just doesn't give up, we have a fund that will borrow him a set of armor+plates to make it easier for him. Of course, loots are an important part of the fun. I have set a goal of looting everything i need from now on, and if i can't do it alone, then i ask my friends to join me on that quest. Things are going fine i guess the supply of guns is ok, the bits of armor are adding up to the full set. This is also a goal shared by my most of my soc mates. We are talking about L gear of course.

Limited stuff sucks? Well, i'd say don't underestimate it. There stats can exceed those of the old times (except economy compared to MM or IMK2 _ special weapons). You don't need ubber gear now to take down players consistently, with 1 shot. You don't need ubber gear to survive a dozen of shots of ml-45 or 35 for example. You just need skills and a well-thought L-set. And friends. Hell, even the laser guns now are a real threat.

If you need to be motivated to play, i would advise of course to set goals. Try changing main activity for example. Or change style. Or mob. Or society. Or go get some fresh air outside. Or play a 2nd game on your breaks. I bet even WOW players don't play only that game. Currently, and in the last 4 years, i have been quite satisfied having EU as my main game. I don't need pink glasses to feel like that when looking at the game. Moreover, my gaming time has some value in cash and therefore is not a complete waste.

This game does NOT allow that, cause while the ad says RL economy, there is nothing RL economy about the ammo for the guns.
Ammo cannot be produced, it is a heavy expense even if all you wanna do is kill nubi stuff, you will not be able to afford it.
Thats why this game sucks. It sucks your wallet dry.

Well, if all you want to do is run around and shoot some stuff, the same 10 to 15 bucks per month that many other games cost would work just fine in Entropia. 15 bucks would give you what... 100,000 rounds of ammo and keep a set of low end gear in good repair? This figure assumes 0 return from the mobs. Your PEDs will stretch a little past that if you're unlucky, and far past it if you are. That being said, never count on luck.

EU only sucks dry the wallet of the undisiplined spender. If you budget wisely, compare notes with other players, and learn how to play at least somewhat economically, you'll be a happy and constant player.

Producing your own ammo would cost you even more .

10$ of ammo will last 4 hours of constant shooting with a newbie weapon called opalo (2 bullets spent). Usually, you will come with 8$ of loot. After selling your stuff, perhaps close to 9$. Sometimes more, sometimes less. If you gather some sweat too, u can easily make those $ stretch or even acumulate. Not even counting the skills that are worth money too.

If you use a gun of 1 bullet, than it's 8 hours of constant shooting before recycling loot. In all those cases, you have to kill noobie creatures. The more you kill, the less risks you take.

  • DashNightDashNight Member Posts: 11

The add does not say RL economy at all it states RCE which is real cash economy, which EU has.I wish you people would actually READ what is stated by Mindark, and stop assuming because assuming in this case makes an ass out of you....
