So the devs should follow the orders of a few "vets" and ignore what a much larger player base is looking for? Not only would this cut their profits, but it would also reduce the number of ppl who really have fun playing this game. No thanks.

are you mad?
They are making KOTOR, splashed with online. What's your problem kid

No Bioware should make the game THEY want to make and gamers can decide whether to play or not...
Don't worry, they are not gonna do it.
Bioware was aware of the SWG veterans (who isn't?), so they know already how to ignore them.
They gonna do the game the marketing departement decide they have to do, don't worry.........
In the end...I agree. They will either make money, or loose money. As far as the flaming of the "Vets"...I think most of the "Vets" agree that it is not so much wanting the old pre CU/NGE SWG back as something that has what the pre CU/NGE had...FULL OPEN GAME PLAY...you can play the way that suites your gameplay style and not be locked into HAVING to do X and Y just to get to Z...
At least that's my opinion.

Exactly... wanting some freedoms in a game is not a bad thing as many would try to make others think, it offers up some truely uniqe gamplay experiences. Sandbox does not need to be fully free it can simply incoporate the best of both worlds making for an even larger fan base...
To many people think we want an SWG 2.0 we don't we want something new just like they do but Bioware did not choose something new ..other than deep story which honestly I can get in single player games anyways... Besides what happens when the story ends?? At least in a persistant world storys and events can be dynamically added without having to buy an expansion...
I'm not mad, I'm just responding to all the "vets" here who actually think their very limited veiw of what makes an online game good should influence the Bioware team. The irony is that a much larger community enjoys games where they play heros and get to be part of an epic story line than those who which to be vapor farmers or fat entertainers dancing in a tavern.
The "vet" crowd demands that the game conform to a standard that would limit the fun millions of people might have, just so they can try to relive some pathetic escape from reality they got to experience in the old SWG. Well news flash, theme-parks are fun because you go there for entertainment and they are set up to entertain in specific ways. Then you leave. The call for "free, open, sandbox" worlds is really just a plea to create a world where the "vets" can escape to. It is not a call to make an entertainment product as such.
Luckily Bioware has a lot of experience creating games that offer the kind of entertainment millions of people are looking for. I applaud the things they have said about taking this game in that direction.
Now can we please split the TOR forums and isolate the "vets" like they did over at SWG forums? It's obvious they just want to have a wine fest here like they did over there, and it really isnt helping the community.
lol, OP are you baiting vets here? Most vets already assumed it wasn't gonna be pre-cu, even fewer are actually mad over it not being. Most have been over it for years now. They have already moved on. The complaints I see now are just over graphics. Game play is another mater, they can take some of SWG and leave the rest. Would you not agree that player housing, crafting, and a few other things are worth looking at putting into a new SW MMO? Something to make it stand out from everything else on the market now? Or do you want it to be exactly like everything else out there so potential new players won't even bother looking at it? I don't understand your argument here.
Bioware doesn't owe the Vets anything. SOE however..........meh. Get over it.
Says you. LEC feels they do though, because they are after all Star Wars fans, hence the upgrade in communication efforts you see now will and continue to see. LEC is not going to let this falter like they did with SWG by taking a completely hands off approach because it didn't work. One thing they did ask of BioWare right off the bat is to continue to have interaction with their community and listen to their concerns through out development and into launch. You will continue to see concerns that are raised on their forums talked about in interviews as they are allowed to talk about them.

But they never give it a rest to the point of it being rude.
At this point it's almost like I feel ashamed to call myself a pre-CU SWG vet

That's just Star Wars fans in general, they are a picky bunch, just ask George Lucas.
Obviously you never played Pre NGE...There was LOTS more to do than just be a fat dancer. As a matter of fact you could do just about anything you could immagine. PvP - both space and land based, Exploring the HUGH world, running Missions, Gather mats for a limitless PLAYER ran ecconomy.....
Is TOR going to be that? Probably not...will it be fun...probably. Are you really saying that that is too much to ask for....Something that can offer 10000's of hours of enjoyable play time, wrather than another mindless grind....Well good....obviously the developers out there agree with you. They can have their 6 month subscribers that move on to another clone ... heheh ...clone wars !!!

You obviously haven't played a good "clone" MMO. Millions of people do, millions of people love them. A small cult following with nothing in the real world worth living for wants to be moisture farmers. Stop asking Bioware+Lucas Arts to listen to that tiny group.

ROFLMAO
I'm not ASKING them to be anything...and I've been playing WoW since I left SWG NGE. They are going to make the game whatever they want...no matter what you or I think...or want...Nothing wrong with wanting more...better than what every developer is making. I'm sure you, on the other hand are happy with the mediocre.

this game isnt going to be anything like old SWG, we havepretty much known this for at least the last 3 years, if you old "vets" cant get over it then guess what:
1) this game isn't for you
2) emu -->
(being a vet from closed beta in swg till about 1.5yrs ago, you guys make me nausious, really)
Folks, it's nothing but trolling on their part, don't let these kids get to you
They are the same ones who said there was no new Star Wars MMO being developed.
Hi I am Lateris and I am a SWG vet. I don't want SWTOR to resemble anything that SWG is doing.
They won't ever be making the game they want again.
They will be making the game EA wants.
And we all know how they generally turn out.
I agree. I'd be far happier seeing it resemble the KOTOR games, rather than SWG.

You're delusional to think Pre NGE wasn't about grinding. When it came down to it, running missions, gathering mats and gaining professions were all grinds. Hell, the majority of people even willingly grinded their ass off to unlock Jedi. Player base economies reward the vets, plain and simple. Try going into SWG now with its player based economy. Gonna need millions of credits just to start off. Wanna fly right off the bat, wich is one of the options you are speaking of? Nope, need several hundred thousand credits to over a million just to get started after you grow out of the starter ship. People are on a more equal footing when there isn't a player ran economy.

Well if there was maybe price caps on items based on their stats, or randomly generated price points based on a virtual economy (supply and demand) that would help. But it would be a heavy system code wise.
Pre-cu never felt like a grind, mainly because you didn't have some dumb number floating over your head to remind you that you were either a level 12 nub or a level 80 uber fucking leet Jeddai, the level system marked everyone prgress in that way and effectively made it more of a grind. The only things I saw as a true grind were the Jedi grind and harvesting creature resources, other than that in before the CU you got xp from everything no matter how easy or tough a fight it was and as levels didn't even enter your thinking because they didn't exist, there wasn't a mad dash to hit the level cap, you just played the game and trained as you needed to along the way.
Now, having said all of that, if BioWare hold true they could reach a similar dynamic with their mmo if you simply level while unravelling your story, should certainly make it a lot more fun than the usual, geting 20 lion pelts and shit.
