System specs for maxed graphics

Craz_zCraz_z Member Posts: 34

I was wondering if anyone could post their system specs if they're running eq2 with all graphics sliders running maxed or in max quality.

I was thinking of purchasing the 2 GB ATI Radeon 4870 X2 and was hoping this would be enough with a 3.13 ghz E8500 Core Duo to run the game maxed. 2GB Corsair dominator DHX, 150 GB WD Raptor at 10k.

If it's overkill I'll scale it down to save cost, if it's under I'd like to know what everyone suggests.

Also, does eq2 finally support SLI based cards? Have they revamped any aspects of the game to place more focus on the GPU than CPU?

Hehe. That spec would be severe overkill for every game coming out within the next year.

Instead of spending such a crazy amount on a graphics card, just pick up something from last year and save yourself a few tears when dx11 is released (supposedly) next year. You'll not get your fair money/performance fix from that memory either mate. Get some RAM that costs less and gives the same noticable performance.

You may want to get a larger HD, but your choice in CPU is sound. Glad to see you're not looking at a quad core. Best to let the software catch up to dual before heading for the next hurdle. lol

I run EQ2 flat out (Vanguard as well) and my computer is ashamed to be seen in the daylight. All it takes is a little windows knowledge, and minimalistic donkey porn viewing, and things are sweet :)

I have as my gaming rig:

    AMD 6000 X2

4GB Crucial RAM (on vista 32bit - yes it DOES use it all since sp1)

    8800GTS 312MB

Some 200GB Maxtor HD @ 7.2krpm that I got as a job lot

I do a lot of software stuff freelance related to AI and my work pc is a monster. It cost around six times as much as my gaming rig, but doesn't play games any better.

Nice specs but 2GB isn't always enough for top performance anymore (although it will generally always give good performance).  I would get 4GB and start using OEM Vista 64.   A cheap and highly future proofing upgrade.

i dont think people who think they are running it maxed are actually doing it.

using amd A64 x2 6400+ @3.2ghz, 8 gigs dd2 800, 2 msi 8800 ultras (OC'd), and vista 64 home premium tweaked like a strippers nippies for gaming (basicly runs like xp with crap loads o ram) and if i max EVERYTHING out and start running around i get about 25-30 fps. im saying max the water particles torches EVERY THING ON EVERY TAB, not just the performance tab.. animations cape shaders everything means everything. im also using 1440x900 so maybe add 10 frames for non wide format.

from some discussion i saw a while back ingame it has to do with the vid cards moving so much data that they actually stress the cpu and therefore decrease their own performance...just something i heard.

maybe that card would fare better than mine do but with 2 gigs of ram you are already doing it on 1 leg. also the cores never go above 60% i dont really know wtf is up with it but the g15 dont lie, obviously ram never bottoms out either.

i think its honestly just 1 of those things where the whole engine would have to be scrapped and started over to really get it to fly.

side note:windows 7 is going to be a buggy POS for atleast a year after its released (when it gets its first SP), just like EVERY OTHER windows to date..stop huffing hype kiddies.

The last Game Update they added Multi Core support...its a 1st step and they are working on additional cpu/gpu boosts. I dont know about sli though.

There was a sitcky (may still be there) at the top of this forum that has some great advice on getting the best look at highest settings for EQ2. It did wonders for me. With your rig and those tips you should be golden.

    nvm

    Not worth it. lol

    With:

    E6850 @ 3.5GHz

    Dual 8800GTS 640MB

    4 gig high lat RAM

    680iLT mobo

I could run at balanced at best. High would work until i got near water or something else special.

Sig so that badges don't eat my posts.

Yeah, I was really skeptical at some of the earlier replies. I mean, my friend has a very nice setup that runs crysis relatively well, but for some reason can't run eq2 maxed out...and I mean everything maxed. There's something critically wrong when two nvidia geforce 280's in SLI can't play everquest 2 with everything maxed.

I dismissed Darwa's opinion simply because my machine would play new games like lost planet, crysis, and far cry 2 in slide show mode on higher resolutions, even the best systems do. There is simply no way a 300 mb card is going to run the game full out with those specs. I don't care how l33t you are, it just won't.

I just don't want to purchase the extra parts if it's not going to run it full out.

I wrote that sticky because a lot of people do not understand EQ2's graphic settings. They give you a ton of options but no real idea of which make the game look good and which push the system resources.

The new dual core support does not change the settings just allows you to set many of them higher. EQ2 is looking better and running better then ever before.

Yeah it is! I'm really enjoying the multicore support. I have allmost everything set to max and it looks great. I have some shadows off because they looked weird to me, like they weren't coming from the light source. Idk... I'll keep messing with it.
