I played it for about half a year, so I thing I'm qualified to comment on it.

Right off the bat, it looks great. Flying through space, the graphic is beautifull and the ships looks very cool.. dark and gritty, the way I like it. The character development is different from most mmogs I've played, as it's continous and has little to do with your actions in the game.. skills are trained up as you go along, even when your offline. Expect a few months of training before you can fly the cool ships though.

What becomes important is how much isk (the money unit) you have, and the best way to get isk is mining. The sad thing is that mining is tedious at best, and unless you have some friends to chat with the hours you'll be spending daily doing it, you'll grow bored very fast. You'll find lots of socialisers in this game, so unless you at some level like to hang out with them I wouldn't recomend this game.

But eventually you'll have the skills and the isk to get a real ship, and thats when the fun starts.. or at least is suppose to start. The problem here is that you don't want to loose the ship you've spendt months mining to afford, and that goes for everybody else as well. So PvP in the end is a matter of beating someone smaller then you, and run if your outnumbered as loosing really isn't an option. Griefing is rampant, and loosing a battleship (best ship class in the game last I heard) is not something one takes lightly. Last I heard they where working on this problem by improving the insurance system, so that might change in the future, depending on how many serious changes they are willing to make.

When it comes to NPC combat, it's not just a matter of going to the nearest astroid belt and kick some ass, at least not if you want any kind of opposition. The tough enemies are hiding hours of traveling from the main systems, and you probably have to pass a few blockades (composed of grifers calling themselves pirates ready to ruin your day) in order to get there.

The only thing I miss when I think back on my time in the EVE universe is the social network, and EVE-Radio needs an honorable mention here. This is an all player driven radio station, and it's really good. Complete with commercials for in-game services paid by player corporations, isk that's in in turned used to hold events, the radio station is probably the best thing with the entiere game. If you want a feel for the game, check out content.eve-radio.com. Some quality music, some crap, and a few very very good DJ... Dobes, you know we love you ::::08::

I always end up ranting away, so I'll stop here. What I can say is that EVE is constantly improving, but in the end it just wasn't my cup of tea. The social around it is very good if you want it to be, but the game is in the end just plain boring. Add immensly time consuming and the ability to turn months of hard work into nothing in a matter of seconds, it's not for everyone.

Thanks for the information about EvE. Sadly it already sounds like its not my cup of tea either. Having to play for months of mining before being able to get a ship is pretty bad. I could get a second job in RL and buy something cool in that time lol.  Thanks for your opinion its what i was looking for.... now if only everyone else could give opinions like that around here 8).

Eve is a game i leave with very mixed impressions. First month - enchanting! Second - hmmmmm..is this really funny? Third and last - how could i ever subscibe to this?

It´s wrong to say Eve is a bad game, it isn´t, it´s just that it takes huge amont of time and efforts from you and doesn´t give anything equal back.

You must sacrifice your soul to this game to be able to compete, and even if you do so, you still won´t be able to reach the top, because the time-based skill system stops newbies from doing that.

This is a game where newbies only hope lays in finding a good corp and a good CEO who doesn´t use them as underpayed mineslave. Forget about freelancing, forget about chosing your own destiny, this is a game where other people form your destiny, either you like it or not.

And even if you do get high up in society, you will soon find out that Eve is remarkably empty. There is no goal, no PvE element, no story, no ending , nothing... Just competion, just moneymaking, just pain, just sacrifice, just one or two good moments, just as life itself... You just have to live there until your virtual or physical life ends, and you haven´t really achived anything.

It´s true that nearly all MMORPGs works this way, but Eves remarkably slow approach to money and skills just amplifies the pain.

The vets will offcourse disagree with this discription. They have reach a godlike virtual position and they don´t wont their countless hours of efforts to disappear when the devs shut down the servers due to lack of subscribers. The forums are full of these people, who hates the thought of Eve shutting down. Don´t listen to them, and don´t beleve them. They are trying to cheat you.

But you dont have to get cheated! Grab a trial of Eve, play it for 14 days, enjoy the gorgeous graphics and music, play some mission and travel around to see the locations and the spaceships. When you have done that, there is nothing more to see. I promise you that.

Just grab another game and wait for a MMOG in space that actually is a game and not an overly realistic and painful life simulator.

BTW excuse me for my bad english - im a Swedeimage
