So you ask people to invest millions into a fantasy game with non archetypical figures with no known base and then ask people to play said game with something no one ever heard of?
For a game that once only had humans - try UO were only playing as human was allowed (don't play the ea version though if possible)
Stygia-Ancent Egypt,Asyria Aquilonia- ancient Roman Empire Cimmeria- Nordic countries Khitai -ancient China Vendhya - India Iranistan - name says it all (Irani - stan(in turkish- land) -meaning Land of Iranians (Persia) Nordheim -Nordic Vikings-Norway
Cimmeria is actually based on the Celts, particulary the Irish. Conan was actually an Irish hero who is mentioned in the book of conquest (the ancient story about Tuatha de daanans) and is said to killed the evil Fomori "Balor of the evil eye".
Ok, i stand corrected, but coming from central Europe myself, i see Ireland as north european country...thats why i wrote "nordic" countries, and was a typo, should have been north european..
Dare we take it even further? How about an MMO with no magic?
Let's face it, ranged DPS / Fireballs / frostbolts etc in any game with PvP tend to become OP over time. And let's not start on the DPS class backed by a healer.
Wouldn't it be funny if you had an MMO with pure melee, ranging from heavy armour, slow, lower DPS to small, light, fast dmg class? No magic flying around, no roots, no heals, just the ring of steel.

I wanted to put in 'Rising Force Online' but they have an elf race in it. I'm thinking of something similar to RFO ; robots, mech and spaceships. Oh ok..now it sounds like the StarWars mmo.
Todays MMOs are trully like a broken record. They continuously circle around the same content, the same archetypes and the same basic stories. When will we have enough? I am of course talking about fantasy games and my question is this... Would it be so impossible to have a fantasy game without these stereotypes - the hunters, the orcs, the long-eared elves, the small fat dwarves, the evil-minded sorcerers, the rogues, the white wizards...? The list can go on and on, and it really does too. Today i saw an advertisement on the first page of MMORPG about a new game called Atlantica and lo-and-behold if there wasn't an elf and a dwarf warrior on display... BAH!! Is this what "fantasy" is all about, i would think it could be so much more or maybe i am wrong?
mmo would be like, no orcs elfs and dwarfs, it seems simple enough to find that out?
Games played:AC1-Darktide'99-2000-AC2-Darktide/dawnsong2003-2005,Lineage2-2005-2006 and now Darkfall-2009..... In between WoW few months AoC few months and some f2p also all very short few weeks.

For me, it is not the races that I get tired of but the rehashed or nonexistant lore. I am fine with elves, dwarves, orcs, and humans (the most overused race of all) as long as the developers make an effort at original lore.
"Those who dislike things based only on the fact that they are popular are just as shallow and superficial as those who only like them for the same reason."
Age of Conan is fantasy and that has no dwarves or elves, of course it's not high fantasy but then again of course it's not, because elves, orcs and dwarves define high fantasy.
Well, there you see my ignorance... i didn't realize that fantasy was split up into different categories like that. Never heard of the term "high-fantasy" before so thanks!
Is this sarcasm? i cant really tell... Anyways... I think you forgot about AoC... it is indeed fantasy, theres no such thing as High Fantasy lol...
there are plenty of other mythical creatures in AoC which brings me to my point....
Fantasy is just anything with mythical creatures, Elves and Dwarves help make Fantasy come alive.
Sorry to contradict you, but there is such a thing as high fantasy and low fantasy, but it isn't just determined by elves, dwarves & ogres.

why replace it? it's still out there, if you know where to look.
not quite but nearly and without being mainstream it wont attract the community that helped make it what it was

Why do they put in elves/dwarfs/orcs in almost all MMOS in the first place?
Fetish. Lalala~

It would be just like every other MMO, except it wouldn't have orcs, dwarves or elves.
Correct!
