Virus/Ad-Ware Help!

I know this question has been asked in the past but I know I have one or the other of the above mentioned headaches on my comp.

Could you list the best FREE virus/ad-ware detectors avaliable??? I know you guys would only use the best so share the wealth.  Best would be ones that remove the problem or at least tell you how to.

    I prefer spyboy search and destroy over ad aware

    it just works better..lol

    Run them both. No law says you can only run one. Run them both, they will both find stuff the other won't.

    There are files that Spybot cannot find so run them both at the same time to kill all spyware.

    dont know the site but look it up on google AVG anti-virus system is what i use

    i also heard if you have 2 anti spy-ware programs they might get rid of each other becouse they think the other program is spy-ware

    If you use Spyware Blaster to secure your system and switch from IE to firefox the amount of spyware ad-ware you get might be reduced to 0. I know it has for me so I have been recommending that combo now.

    Exactly... The best thing you can do is switch to a browser different than Internet Explorer...

    I also advise FireFox. It Rocks!!!

    i use

    spybot search and destroy

    hijackthis to get rid of plugins in IE so they dont recur (be careful with this though, so you dont delete something you may need)

    and also use kaspersky anti-virus to check for viruses.

    Edit: oh, i also use ZoneAlarm firewall

    I use:

    Spybot S&D
    Armor2Net firewall {paid version}
    Opera

    Last dozen spyware scans since using Opera exclusively = 0 problems.
