My advice would be to either:
    1) Wait for the JTL open beta
    2) Try and find a trial copy. I've heard some are still going around on magazine cover disks, but you may have to wait until JTL is out.
    3) Find a friend who plays and get them to give you a guided tour (probably the best option IMO)

IF you are a Star Wars fan, then yes, buy this game. BTW it is nothing like FFXI. Nothing except that the graphics in both games are modern graphics.

This game is intended first for Star Wars fans. Then for people who do not have much free time.

I also recommend you play this game without  intending to be a Jedi. If you want to play Jedi, buy Jedi Outcast, Jedi Powerbattles, or KOTOR, or the new Kotor sequel about Sith and dark jedi.

If you are looking to participate in the Galactic Civil War as was the reason i got the game, I recommend waiting a bit longer before getting it, as there will be a major combat balance following JTL.  As it is right now, PvP is horribly unbalanced.  PvE can be fun though.  I had a good time hunting and taming creatures.  Also crafting is well done in it.  So there is plenty to keep you entertained for a month or two, but after that there really isnt much to do as the PvP is not yet polished and it doesnt take very long to master your chosen professions.  I reactivate my acount for a month every 6 months or so to see how the game is doing, but even after being out as long as it has, the game feels very beta like to me.

As said above this game is for Star Wars Nut Balls and casual gamers.

Hardcore gamers will get about a month out of it before getting bored.

Also sometimes the "lack" of Star Wars in the game is quite acute.

I do love the game but am increasingly finding it hard to find stuff to do.

Some of the best features are:

    • Sometimes its very Star Wars.
    • Player Houses and Cities are top, the way they are developed is major cool.
    • Player Economy works quite well.
    • Vehicles (especially Speeder Bikes) and Mounts are top!
    • Rebel/Imperial bases are very cool things to own.
    • Creature Handlers although hard work to max are very top.
    • NPC pets like Stormtroopers are very top.
    • The expansion looks promising.
    • Player Owned Imperial AT-ST is just so cool!

Some of the worst features are:

    • At times its not very Star Wars at all.
    • Grind factor is immense.
    • Missions are dull and repetitive.
    • Can spend hours searching for that one thing you need through each player owned shop.
    • SOE support is lousey at the best of times.
    • Lack of content, very few dungeons (places to adventure) or places of actual interest.

If you do get the game I advise asking someone where the nearest Imp/Reb Mission terminal and recruiter are, and do nothing but them missions.

Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve
