Is the item shop necessary?

I have played many MMOs and many free to play MMOs. I thought I would give this one a chance, but I have read two different views on the item shop. i have read some reviews which say that it is necessary to buy things from the item shop and other reviews that says you can play without it. Can your character advance without using items from the item shop?  I was just currious, before i waste 4 hours of my life downloading it.

    yes and no. You can lvl and al lthat without the item mall....but if you wish to be reborn then you need a rebirth card fro mthe item mall...that is 4.98 i think. Sadly most games are like this but they need item malls to keep the game running after all it is free...ish
