Could use a hand on deciding what type of character to play as :D

I just got a 21-day trial off Steam instead of the regular 14 day one so i'm pretty excited. I am leaning torwards Gallente but I'm not sure what to pick. Jin - Mei seem cool. I was thinking of being something around the Engineer class but in all honesty I just want to be useful in a Corp so I can make many friends in the game.

Thanks for any advice or tips :D

Most players can be most useful to a corp as a Soldier or Specialist to help with mission running and/or PvP

Any choice you make at character creation screen is only a start-point, not a locking up to any single path.

Every skill in the game is accessible to all characters, every profession is available to everyone. Your starting choices only reflect on the starting skillset and attributes.

Of course, given that you are on the trial, you might want to choose which starting skills you have with more care, as you don't have unlimited time to train new ones.

On the first post of this thread, there are links to picture diagrams depicting skillsets for different starting careers:  http://myeve.eve-online.com/ingameboard.asp?a=topic&threadID=468840

Edit: And a very useful page for starting a character is here: http://hammer-eve.blogspot.com/2007/05/advanced-starting-careers.html

Jin Mei Specialist are good, they start with great drone skills, which help in both combat and mining.

The most important thing is making sure your attributes are ok.  Try to go for a balance of Int, Per, Wil and Mem, but dont worry too much about Charisma.  Keep charisma somewhere between 5 and 7, try to keep the rest of the attributes even at about 8-11.

This gives your character maximum flexibility to develop.  That way you can for example try out a mining profession, then without trouble change your mind and go for a soldier or industrial profession without problems.

Okay. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll take a look at both those links and see what I can come up with. I'm hoping this will replace my boredom that i've had for the past few weeks.
