LOL@ funcom!

When AoC came out ...and I left tortage with that shiny new game feel I was thrilled! The game I had been waiting for, for over 2 years was here! Hooray Age of Conan.

Needless to say , bitter disapointment followed. The game is a DISASTER. This is not an exageration. I was one of the biggest "fanbois" out there. The game is horrible. I went from being so excited to absolute bitterness in the matter of a few days.

So, leaving the game I posted my goodbye thread on the main forums and basically said "I sincerely hope you guys go bankrupt." Now, at the time, it seemed like that was just wishful thinking. Lol, it seems to be a real possibility now though and THAT THRILLS ME TO NO END!

I would giggle my ass off if Funcom went out of business! I hope the devs , frikkin gaute, the coders, the marketers, ...everyone lose everything. Normally, I would not have this kind of over the top hatred but, the fact is...the company is shady. Seriously, they are flat out crooks. They lied, misled us, hid things.....

reap what you sow funcom. I'll be drinking a cold one and laughing my ass off at you IRL!

So  the biggest reason AoC failed is because it doesnt have DX10, and the pvp system isnt implimented yet?  In my opinion AoC is a fine game, sure it needs a few tweaks here and there, but what game doesnt the first year?

It is like AoC broke up with you and ran off with your record collection and your dog.

Time to take all the bitter AoC "Vets" and hook them up with all the SWG "Vets" and give them their own forum...on the moon...

You seem to have missed th epoint of my post. I am not bitter. I am very happy right now. Funcom stock is at like 12 bucks. Down from 55 before launch. Whats not to be happy about?

IMO it's probably not the requirements , Rather the instabilities in the code .It played okay on my system and I barely make min requirements. However the instabilities caused frequent crashes , Caused me to fall through the geometry etc...

See, thats wierd, cuz you aren't the first person I have heard from who said that they played it ok on subpar systems. In fact, my girlfriend has an 8600 gt in her comp. A frikin 8600. I have 2 8800gt's and she only got like 5 fps less than I did. Its like the code punishes you for exceeding the reqs. Wierd.

My card isn't even that good. 7300 came stock in this system , Haven't upgraded yet. Everything else makes min though.I'd guess it probably has a lot to do with the video settings being broken. It's pretty bad I couldn't improve my performance by tweaking those settings, Rather the lower you put them the more unstable the game becomes.

You make it sound like dx10 and no pvp system are no big deals.

Think about the people who spent real money to get their system up to speed to play AoC with dx10, only to have FC pull it at the last min?

What about the fact that all the hype about AoC that basically focused on the pvp, both pvp and siege types, only to not have them in the game at launch and still not in this many months later?

And you left out so many other things in the game that are broken missing or half-implemented* making the game feel like a bare-bones framework. What about only having enough content in the game so that to make it to 80 you've got to do pretty much ALL the quests that are available, killing the replay value? I could go on on with the actual game but lets talk about how FC treats its player-base? Grossly sub-par customer service, inadequate and ill-equipped GM's no two whom give the same answer to the same question? What about the lack of communication from FC? Undocumented patch info? deadlines pushed back repeatedly and coincidentally past the next billing cycle? FC's refusal to acknowledge anything is wrong?

Come, if you've been playing or following any of AoC's progress at all you should be aware that the lack of dx10 and lack of pvp systems are merely 2 of the problems, not the only two.

*I could expand this line into a wall of txt that would crit you for 999999 dmg.

perfectly said. I myself am typing on a machine that I custom built (for around 1200 usd) that was intended to play aoc at max . Instead , I am using it to type on forums. A chore that could have easily been acomplished with my old machine.

While  I know it is stupid to upgrade for a single game, that is how much I believed in this game. Getting why I am so jaded now?

p.s. on a side note, I am sure I'll be able to run WaR at absolute max. If that turns out to suck, ...well...At least I can send e-mails and read replies at 1800x1024.

I played in the Beta for this, and got up to level 20. That made me preorder the game. Once the game actually launched, and I got above level 20, it was almost a totally different game.

I thought all of Tortage was very well done. After that, not so much. All the broken quests, bugs, crappy loot, and the screwed up crafting system is what turned me off.

Eventually, I may retry this game, but not for at least 6 months.

  • severity3severity3 Member Posts: 264

6  months from now the game will be in worse shape than it is now. It will NOT make money, so by then they will be running on a skeleton crew. Yes I am prepared to back this statement up 6 months from now. This is a doomed game. period.

An opinion felt by 100 000s of other gamers that have left the game, yes 100 000s.

The last point he made about the system requirements is not even opinion its bloody fact. Its rediculous that top end comps run this game like shit, and you know whats even worse that it ran worse and worse with every single patch.

I spent $3500NZD (2470.3USD) in preparation for AoC.  Well to be fair, I had been playing WoW for years on an old system just fine and knew that with the current crop of games coming out that couldn't run very well on my system, I had to do a major upgrade.

I'm not pissed that I spent that cash, This beast will serve me for years for other games.

    Still.....

    Funcom, you suck.

Actually I didnt have much frame drops with my PC setup. But I used alot of time tweaking the computer for only AoC. And I really think thats should be unnecessary. What annoyed me the most was the loading to zones, which took ages. Geez, how could Funcom think that loading screens and a dark claustrophobic world would put a smile onto the players? Hire me Funcom, and I will teach ya how to make a game with a better experience. Nvm, who would hire anyone with the right mindset. Mind is addiced to failure.

This is a conversation I have had with friends.  AoC was reported to have cost around 50 million dollars to develop. My take on that...all those fanbois who say "if you could do better why not go make your own game". Thing is, no, I don't know how to code. No I don't know how to build an mmo. But given 50 million frikkin dollars, you damn well better believe I could HIRE the right people who do.  I know for a FACT that with 50 mil I could supervise the creation of a game that could own this one.
