What you see is not what you get, Talisman Online money trap

I am very disappointed to F2P and now I finally realized why it is a F2P. My weapon evaluation on my server was top 8, the top 7 are all level 50+ and I was lv 39.

I have spent about US45 to upgrade my weapon, Talisman Online has a feture to merge weapon to place old weapon on 1st slot, and new weapon on 2nd slot then 3rd slot will show you the possible result for your new weapon.

My old weapon cost me US$15-25 to upgrade to +6 and my new weapon cost me US$15 to upgrade to +5, supposed I will upgrade to +6 with my new weapon which may cost me another US$10.

I look at the new weapon, hmm, the stats looks promising then I merged 2 weapons, click merge, crying and angry,  my new weapon being downgraded and my old weapon is gone to the air. Th new weapon preview before merge are totally a junk, lv40-50 weapon but worse than my old weapon lv30-40. Now, if I am going to use my new weapon to have same damage like me disappeared old weapon, it will cost me least US$ 80.

Some people said the new weapon preview is 20% chance but it never show up any warning in the merge window that I may lose or downgraded.

It makes me to think most F2P just want to make money and do not responsible for customer's benefit, or even lack of in game information. Although Talisman Online website required grinding to gain website skill point to use SEARCH function.

I had enough with F2P.

That's why they call it "free". It's a marketing ploy to trick players into paying for objects instead of for the subscription. Of course, buying objects is like buying the retail box; you only need to do it once and then they need to find another way to make money off you. Sounds like these guys decided destroying the gear you just bought was the way to go.

Lesson learned? I hope so. Never spend money on a game that has an item shop.

this is quite funny. im not sure to get the point of the post.

    complaining about crafting?

all games need a crafting system where the better you gear is,the more risk of failing upgrading.

that is a must, unless you want the server to be choked on superb items after  few months, twinked chars running wild, and a total devaluation of the gear (and subsecuently,of ingame money and the ruin of whole market later)

    complaining about p2p features?

thats the business model of f2p games. at least, you gotta admit noone forced you to buy anyhing from the cash shop.

complaining about p2p items not guaranteeing you a 100% succeed?

thats a mix of the first and second point. they cant allow it happening, first becouse then cash shop users get an advantage plain gamebreaking, second becouse as i said the market needs a money sink and a cap for the best gear. crafting to the max without risk destroys the game.

anyway look at what you said. at level 39 you had a way better weapon than most players 10 levels over you. with it probably you owned hard people 5 levels higher. just becouse you paid for it while they didnt.

also that is why i dont like playing f2p games. becouse cash shop users get all kind of unethical and unfair advantages. yes, even tho you are paying,it is unfair...

imho, its like figthing a handcuffed guy. its not fun for me,nor fun for him. thats why i think all f2p games are bullshit to avoid like the plague.

I guess the key here is to find a F2P MMOG that doesn't use a micro-pay item system. I have found that, especially if the game is PvP based, you have to spend money on items to be able to compete. Those are the ones to stay away from. Not all of them are like that though I don't think. I don't know though because I usually steer clear of most F2P games, although I will try them once if they look halfway decent.

Talisman is so much better than other so called free games.  Since there is no real PVP the only reason to spend money to get + weapons is for epeen.  It  not like you can't kill stuff easy without the extra. Now if you were complaining that the best pets were only in teh cash shop you would have a point.  Even the stuff to upgrade weapons/armor drops you do not HAVE to buy it like some games.

I played this for almost 6 months before I tired of the grind and maybe spent $40. I never got suckered into buying stupid stuff because I want to look cool.

  • UrrellesUrrelles Member Posts: 574

Paying 10 - 80 bucks for damage upgrades?  You should have only been suckered by that ONCE at most.  Spend your money on items that will last you a long time.  Items that are unique.  The weapon upgrades didn't even give you special features like Ice proc, or barrier shields or nothing.  Just damage.

Nearly all games have a combine and crafting system that works exactly how you stated.  Sadly you paid money for your item then lost it experimenting.

All can say is "Don't ever go to a casino!  You don't seem keen on money schemes and you might lose your home."

Just think for the amount you spent on this game you could have played a p2p game for a while...yes a game chalked full of content, with all the content avaliable to everyone playing, not just those paying for cash shop items.

Ahh yes the cash shop suckers...will pay 3 months worth of a p2p game, for some items that gives them a slight advantage, in a game with little content.  But hey its FREE! whooo!

Its really genius...convice people to pay triple or more what one month subscription for a p2p game is...all in a game with a third of the content.  Oh and you gotta keep dropping chunks of cash to stay competative too...awesome.  And you wonder why so many shallow f2p games keep popping up..seemingly off the same mmo assembly line in korea.

You know you can play a hundred other f2p games and upgrade items for free...

If you like cash shops then play Knight Online. It  has cash shops AND you can upgrade items for free oOoOoOoOoO.

You know what be a good game for you to play? A game with a casino where you use real life money just to play in the casino and if you win, you only win casino money that can only be used in the casino!

Lol I don't see why you're mad or sad or whatever. You're the one dumb enough to think that crafting is 100% success just because you paid for it LOL. That's hilarious. Almost hilarious as the *special* crafting item upgrades in Knight Online (ALSO AVAILABLE IN THE CASH SHOPS) that improve your chance of success by a grand total of 5% and cost like $15 in US money (did I mention its one use too?)

Some of you have inaccurate ideas. You don't play the game, so you don't know how it works. You just assume. Usually that's fine, but here it presents an inaccurate picture.

ALL CASH SHOP ITEMS IN TALISMAN ONLINE ARE TRADABLE. This means that there is not a single person on any TO server who can not buy with in game money and use cash shop items.

Just log into a server at any given time, Mounts and Pets in this game are cash shop items, and yet everyone has one. Not everyone who has a mount +7 paid real life cash for it. I had 3 of them, and never paid a cent of real money. I also have many blue and gold peices of equipment with +6 or +7 that I never spent a real dime on. Within the first few months of playing the game, despite using no real money at all, my husband and I had one of the biggest bank accounts on our server. If you're not an idiot, it's actually quite easy to make a ton of money on ANY game.

The REAL problems with this game, lay elsewhere. Customer service, being the main problem. Not one person on the staff, in game or on forum, is a native english speaker. Their website, their update, their forums, most of it is indecipherable due to poor spelling, syntax, and word usage.

It generally takes several days of arguing and trying to get the support team to understand your issue, and them trying to get you to understand what they are saying in order to resolve any issues.

Several times, particularly recently, the game website's screenshot section has had pornography uploaded onto it. This remained on the front page of the website for over 24 hours. As far as I know they have not modified the way that screenshots get uploaded to require a moderator to look at it before it gets posted, despite several forum threads, and hundreds of requests to do so.

They are extremely slow to add new content, and more or less only add cash shop items when they do. They need to make money, and I can appreciate that as much as any person who actually has to pay bills. New cash shop items are not bad in and of themselves, but they need to be accompanied by larger level caps, new maps, new monsters, new quests, or at least some more interesting or challanging end game content to keep the old players interested, and the new ones striving to get to a point where they can partake in that content.

The one thing I will complain about concerning the cash shop is that many of the items are quite ridiculously priced. Some items even costing as much as 40 USD. They have raised these prices, more then likely because of the slow in purchases made due to the American economic recession currently happening. I know many private donation servers that are suffering greatly due to canceled donations because of this. Instead of increasing the prices, thereby making it so that even the people with a little money be unable to continue purchasing, they should have decreased the prices. Then they could have gotten a broader range of people willing to spend 5 dollars or so on something they wanted.

The game is also loaded with Brazilians, and despite the "rule" that world chat should be in English only, there is no one online to enforce it. So when you enter the world of TO, be prepared to be PK'd repeatedly by people who have no idea what you are saying, and who you probably won't understand either.

few purchases = raising prices = more profit?

    wait what?

    Wolfenpride: <--Giant fucking sword syndrome.

Probably cause im trying to compensate for miniscule manhood.

  • Shizuru19Shizuru19 Member Posts: 7

    being sarcastic or...?

It's been since the recession has hit the hardest that the prices have gone up, so I think there is a likely correlation there. Not as many people are buying "T-points".

I would think their thought process would be, "Not enough people are buying T-points, so we have to raise the price of the items so that the ones who still buy them at least will keep up the profit we need."

While this might display a poor ability to apply logic to economics,  it's at least moderately understandable that someone might come to that conclusion. Otherwise they're just plain idiots lol. Which they very well may be. The owning company doesn't appear to be a subsidiary of any larger company, nor does it do anything but this one Talisman Online game. Considering that, it is likely that most of the staff are more educated in software and computers, then they are in economics, business, or communication.

dude... that all the point in these so called F2Ps!

Even tought you can play them FREE. At a moment... youl have to donate real money so you can get good items!

This thing is like in most F2Ps!

So my suggestion you play  a monthly fee MMORPG. Live whi this thing and still play F2P mmorpg.

    Or play other kind MMORPGs!

And to pint out someone who posted earlier. The english of this game is quite BAD. Like for example when one of your friends goes offline the game says "Player1 has just offline"

    And many other flaws.

You think that's bad, guess what, in another game it literally costs over a thousand bucks to upgrade endgame-level weapon. That game also allows cash shop item trading so it's not too bad - you can buy upgraded stuff from other players who did it themselves - but the point remains. Unless you're a hardcore player who's willing to grind for months to gather enough ingame resources to trade for one of those things.

You mean runes of magic? Yea that was for a weapon that theoretically should never be replaced, but still, that game is pretty much dying due to how much diamonds is needed.

on topic (kinda) : How long does it take to reach a respectable level in this game? (if say max lv is 60, how long does it take to hit.. 45?) i like to have a majority of my skills before the grind sets in (6 hours~+ per level)

Some f2ps are scams, some are not. Usually the largest hint that the game a person is evaluating is a scam or not is if the in-game shops have even a single item that affects gameplay.  If they are selling weapons/armor what have you for real $, they just threw off the entire balance of the game.  F2Ps won't last if those who pay gain an advantage over those who don't.  It's either cosmetic changes all the way (such as League of Legends, Hereoes of Newerth) or nothing regarding in-game shops... that is, if the game ever hopes of going legit (read: being successful).
