Ok here is whats going on. I hate the new character models in vangaurd...In the screens that Ten Ton Hammer took. It does the new models no justice.
The point of the new model implementation was to add sliders and new features that distinguish your avatar from other player's avatars.
Ten Ton Hammer is beating itself in the face becase they didnt use any of the new sliders to make the characters proportional. It's just like in Oblivion where you can either make a good looking avatar with the sliders...or make a horribly disproportionate stooge.
Either way it's Ten Ton Hammer's fault for not making their characters look "proportional." Lets not blame the vanguard team because Ten Ton Hammer doesn't know how to use sliders.
IMO, I think one can make a distinguishable avatar that looks proportional, with the new system.
Haters Hate and Lovers Love. Do what you need to do.

Are they on Test now? If so, can you share screenshots?
The charmodels arent even finished (check vulmane, some seem to have wrong proportions).
No clue why people thought that suddenly artdesign will be completly different.
Wait, so the model updates...those do not even look any different...they look EXACTLY the same to me. Sliders to change things or not, I was thinking a totally reskined and polycount change...
MMOs Played: I can no longer list them all in the 500 character limit.
this is a good point. When I first went on test all my characters looks short and stumpy. It was only after playing with the customization I saw that for some reason all the character width sliders were maxed and some others were minimum. Anyway the nice thing is you got all the sliders back and character models are a bit nicer proportioned. Especially the female models which actually look nice now rather then the older unisex look.
But as with anything people are expecting something more and/or won't like the change. Ultimately though we do have better character models and all the sliders back. So we are better then we were.

They aren't the same if you look at before and after esp the female models. And they are lower polycount and are supposed to be less of a performance hit that was one of the reasons for changing them. So we have better looking models (arguable) lower poly count, and all the sliders back with helms and better performance. Seems like a total win to me?!

you dont like that!?
that looks ALOT!! better
so is that a male woodelf stripper?
So helms are on the way to this game? Haven't been involved much since the beta, but I still hope that I could return one day. The way characters looked and the fighting animations was one thing I did not like. Any improvement in that area would be great!
Helms are already in the game right now, and can be toggled to be seen or unseen. Fighting animations are still the same rough animations from the start. Improvements in that area would be welcomed, as well as other areas.
lol... Yep he'll be at a bachelorette party very soon indeed.
I have postes some pics here for the female starting armors. You have to be logged in to see them.

Wow...the female armors are looking pretty good! And that's indeed a nice change!!

They have done a good job, but need to touch the faces up some. The armor is awesome though. When I made these pics i only used default models.
Visit this thread. Start at page 9 and work your way back looking at the screenshots.
they really botched up female models. They removed the torsos from a lot of the armor, in some cases it looks good.. in many cases it looks pretty bad. Some of the armor scaling is off too.
Overall, female faces look more edgey. Some (gnomes) appear to have a 5 o'clock shadow. Read through the thread, you'll see a lot of people are not happy at all with the changes. They really took away the softness of the female faces. Half elves look like monkeys, mordebi look like pigs
as far as I know, the male models appear fine except for armor clipping and some of the armor models. Nothing like what they did with the female models

Yeah, I'll definitely agree with this...I never realized how good the female faces looked back in GU2 until looking at some screenshots. But...the dev team is listening suppposedly and posted this...
"First off, thanks for all the constructive critizism.
Some main points that we are working on and some that we will focus on next. Obviously we have lots of stuff to do and that is why you don't see tons of replies to the thread (but we are reading and taking in what you are commenting on).
Skin shading (too dark) - Skin will look much more like skin. We had a huge break through with this yesterday and we will apply this to all PC and as much as possible on the NPCs.
Can't make noses thin enough - We will look into tweaking the values allowed for nose control (decreasing the min value for problematic races).
Female Armor - We have changed heavy armors back to the way they were. There is only a few medium armors showing skin now (the ones that worked the best). Light armor has a handful of armors showing skin (some were reverted back to the way they were.)
Thanks again,"
This can be found in this thread.
I also think that the male biceps are a bit too extreme. Didn't really realize just HOW extreme they were until really looking at them from the side.

ya, that really is a relief. I nearly resubbed yesterday anticipating the new models. I went to that thread I posted and decided against it.
To know theyre still tweaking the models may get me back into the game. To top it off, I dont even play a female toon.. I just wasnt happy with the changes that were made.
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a robot foot stomping on a human face -- forever."
Yes, same here, I've looked around a bit and I see now that the new models still have very much to wish for. And the animations still looks the same. How long has this game been out now? I'll wait another year before even thinking of coming back I think, If this game exists then.
Ive always liked the armoursets in Vanguard. Albeit it maybe a bit too shiny, at least the artists dont use trees on helmets and braziers on shoulderpad to make it look higher lvl or expensive
thing that impresses me is the diversity. A couple nights ago I did a dungeon with some lvl 50s, 4 lvl 50 warriors to be exact. They each looked different. The armor they had was all different. That is different then any other game I've played and really impresses me. Characters in the game look different and you don't run around where you can look at someone and go ah thats a lvl 40 rogue clone.
While the appearance tab in some games helps it still doesn't make up for lack of real itemization and graphics.

I miss the good ol' days when nerds were actually intelligent.
Yes, Nikoz78, we now you hate the new models in a game you not even remotely would play because you don't like the look of the avatar.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
Does it matter. He is right. The new female avatars look absolutely horrible. All the faces look retarded.
But it seems more and more obvious that SOE has been putting inexperienced interms in the Vanguard team. Cannot explain this screw-up otherwise.
The male torso's are also way out of wack. They all look they are on massive steroids. The only thing you can do with sliders is to make them look they are a little less on steroids, but they still are.
Way out of proportion. But basically the official video from Fanfaire says enough.
They need to revamp all the female faces.
They need to adjust the torso's.
They need to adjust the female armor, as a lot of them look like porn suites atm.
They need to fix the clipping issues.
Lot of work still.
its a damn shame cause i was looking forward to a nice updated character for VG
Does it matter. He is right.
Must be a cultural thing then I guess.
I get annoyed already the second time my wife says the same obvious thing and yes that goes both ways. (We still talk with each others btw.)
