i ve played warcraft on and off for a number of years now and although its still a game i enjoy and fully intend to level up my two characters from level 70-80 at some point , how soon depends a lot on what warhammer has to offer . nearly everyone i know in game are at least willing to give it a try and i would nt be supprised if its any good that the vast majority will stay with warhammer for quite a while before even thinking of returning to warcraft .
a lot depends on warhammers content. it needs to be some extent similar to warcraft in terms of gameplay (because people like the familiar) but also needs to expand on what warcraft has to offer, espeacially in terms of pvp .
paradoxically it will be world of mouth in warcraft that may be biggest form of promotion for warhammer .
if mythic have truly given us the first real competition to wow the exodus could be huge . but as for it being a wow killer , well that will take time and after all given blizzard only produce one expansion roughly every two years theres plenty of time to alternate between them both .
all the best for the mmo gamer at the end of the day

Depends on if you mean people who will leave and return (See: AoC) or leave and not return. In either way, not that much since most people will want to get a free lvl 55 death knight once WLK comes out.
I'm not if your trying to troll or not but War should focus on getting populations from games like AoC and not try and be the "WoW-killer" because past games have tried to become that and they all failed. (until bioware makes an mmo!)
To be honest I kind of hope only the DAoC and EQ players come to WAR. The thought of the WoW community in WAR is painful.
Nonono. It needs to expand on DaOC and have nothing to do with WoW which it does beautifully. Believe me WoW is all the gear grind anyone needs for fourteen lifetimes. This is a completely different type of game. Either it will be a breath of fresh air or it will slap you in the face and you will return to something more familiar.
People will come to WAR because they want to experience Mythic-style Realm vs. Realm combat.
The Blizzard people are also very smart. They see what works and what doesn't. You can expect them to make further adjustments to keep their game healthy for years to come.
I love Mythic for making DAoC and again for making Warhammer.
But let's not forget Blizzard who also makes great games.
We are lucky to live at a time when there is more than one company who can make a great game.
I mean -- would you want to depend on Funcom as you source of online entertainment???

This whole point is a great example of one major reason I plan to stay far away from WoWhammer.
I make it a lifes goal to stay away from the WoW majority.
No offense to many good people who also play WoW, and to the mature young people out there

I think WAR is going to round up and consolidate a lot of players floating around between MMO's. It'll soak up AoC's players, Vanguard's, our guild has a few from LotRO and Tabula Rasa, and also those messing around with the free-to-plays.
As far as WoW though, I predict a fairly painful hit to Blizzard. The hardcore raiders will stay in WoW, but people fed up with PvP balance, and grind issues will come to stay in WAR.
WoW and WAR combined though will pretty much crush everything else.
You should know there are tons of people in beta here now, and the game is only comparable to WoW by some minute details. This is a Warhammer + DaOC game not WoWhammer. You are just making yourself look foolish.
F... Wow.
The King has Interet the playground
Beta:
GW, WOW, AOC, DAOC, DOD, L2, VG.
Playd:
GW necro msx, WOW never maxd, DAOC reaver-paladin-cabalist-vamp max, L2 never maxd, VG never maxd.
Play:
Daoc - Paladin. Classic.
I'll buy it, see how the first month goes.
A balance of that and how I like WotLK will decide, but if I like both I'll just have 2 subs to be honest.
To be honest I kind of hope only the DAoC and EQ players come to WAR. The thought of the WoW community in WAR is painful.

Couldn't agree more. I don't think Mythic even thinks they can kill wow. Hell, I want to see WoW kill everquest and uo. Still waiting for that to happen. Any day now. I think WAR will sit around 1 million plus active subs. Where it goes from there is up to Mythic.

some good points , firstly i could nt agree more the wow crowd is one of the worst in mmos . you only realise how bad when you play something like lord of the rings where everyone is pretty helpful and friendly as a rule .warhammer wont be a wow killer obviously and a lot will depend on its endgame as to how many people will come back once they have achieved the top level . as we saw in conan a lot of people had a break from wow but soon returned because the endgame was lacking .
both mythic and blizzard are good solid companys and i think both the lich king and warhammer will be successful and there definatly is a case for the possiblity it will kill off some of the lesser mmos or at least make them look at a micropayment model instead of a subscription fee basis . the likes of vanguard everquest 2 age of conan etc are really going to suffer although niche mmos like eve and city of heroes will carry on much as before as will games like lord of the rings which have a strong and loyal userbase .
it could also mean that we ll see more people attracted to the mmo market and thus see no drop in warcrafts regular subscriber base but rather see a stronger more vibrant market .
after a number of faliures in recent years and games at best that are only a moderate success we really do need to see a game that will offer some real competition to warcraft
To be honest I kind of hope only the DAoC and EQ players come to WAR. The thought of the WoW community in WAR is painful.

I know that I am personally leaving WoW for War and that's enough for me. I also have two people going with me that want to try it out, but they're not big into pvp at all so will probably get frustrated and go back to wow. Who knows though they might think it's fun and get into it, that is...if it's actually fun, hard to tell without trying it. I've got one person on the fence about coming over to try it on top of that, but he's a really dedicated tank for his guild and a huge carebear so even if he tries it he'll probably be back to wow in no time. Will see. They've got alot of time devoted to their characters and still like wow so I don't expect much.
Me on the other hand, If the game is even halfway decent I'm outta there, so sick of that game for a long time already.
I played in the Warhammer Beta and the Wrath of the Lich King beta and I am going to stick with WoW. The public quests in Warhammer were alot of fun and definitely something id like to do more of. But the PvP in Warhammer felt really lame. At lower levels everyone of the same class looked exactly the same. And it was hard to tell what people were doing. It was instanced just like World of Warcract. The first PvP battle I did was basically a tiny version of Arathi Basin. So I dont know what everyone is talking about with this RvR stuff. I have yet to see the difference.
Also I played the chaos faction and some of the classes looked extremely stupid. The healer for Chaos looked like some kind of undead monkey or something I kept laughing whenever I saw one run by. I could never take that class seriously. The rogue type dude with the wierd arms looked equally stupid. In the PvP, it was like 90% Witchhunters on the other side. They are the order class that has guns and daggers (seriously how could you not anticipate overpopulation with that mix). I played the tank class on the Chaos, it was really fun in the public quests, but in PvP it was the same old thing, alot of my skills were not very effective against players.
So in short Wrath of the Lich King > Warhammer Online. Try it out for the public quest system, its like mini events in each zone that you get ranked for participately in ( the even runs over and over every minute or so ) and the top 3 contributors get to loot a chest at the end and get bonus points that you can use to buy new gear and stuff.
ive played wow for a number of years and im hoping war is not so wowish as everyone is looking for i need a new game damnit lol
word
Scenarios are instanced, yes RvR lakes are not. Sounds to me like you didn't make it too far past level 10 but its all good, have fun in WoW.

If it gets a million subs, and keeps them for three months or so, it'll grow like WoW did. Friend-recruitment and a feeling that a community is alive and kicking will draw more in, as well as incouraging the money men to invest more in content development and expansion.
That's where so many MMO's are failing, and why (even though I haven't read much about WAR) they may have been right to cut some launch content - it seems far more important that what IS there is polished, smooth and engaging. If it can hook people for a few months, they'll wait for more content.
DaoC players > WoW players
There are exceptions but this is still my opinion. I don't mind who joins, more the merrier, as long as I see no WoW comparing in the "general chat". Like comparing a horse to a donkey.
Anyone who gives impressions about RvR from a Tier 2 standpoint isn't giving much info at all. After level 10 is when classes differentiate. You start choosing your paths and should have lots of RP to spend on stat packages.
I would also argue RvR really doesn't get to its peak until Tier 4, where the fiercest fighting is.
I would also argue levels 1-10 is more of an intro to the class and RvR system, thus no keep warfare and not all that many skills.
Will WoW lose players to WAR? Depends if those WoW players are looking for other games. Also depends on if they want to fight players or NPCs.
Now the DAOC to WAR exodus should be massive
As an Elder Tester, and someone that thought he'd hate Warhammer before playing it, I'll be the first to say that I expect this game to earn multiple millions of recurring subscribers.
This will be WoW's first competitor.

And overall bitter old man.
I have played a few different class to the 20s so far, and as I said , its a really good game. Alot of new and interesting concepts. I was in the guild beta, so I could only play chaos because that is what my guild chose to play. My highest level character was a chosen because I thought they looked the coolest, and I enjoyed tanking with them, but not the PvP. I am going to choose Wrath of the Lich King because Warhammer just isnt different enough for me to pass on a character that I have been having fun playing for years getting stronger, new spells, new stats, and getting to do new content.
It also seems Blizzard has its own zone just to compete with the Warhammer crowd. Lake Wintersgrasp seems like everything all the people obsessed with RvR are talking about. And possibly more.
I will probably give Warhammer another try once I get my main characters to 80 and finish the first bit of raid content. By then im sure Warhammer will have figured everything out and will have enough information and players for me to jump on.
And just a side note, I have played Dark Ages of Camelot in the past, I know what RVR is generally.
