Do you keep up w/ friends as they move on to the newest MMORG?

Here is something that has caused a little minor strife in our group of real life friends.

EQ, the gateway drug that it is hooked a few members of our crew and they were off and running in their own virtual world.  No biggie, we have all been there.  Then SWG comes out.  A few of the EQ guys switch over and some new lads (myself included) jump into the MMORPG world.  The new lads talk even more guys into buying the game, and now it is all one big happy family with a small, but whoopass, guild...untill...

SWG became unplayable for some.  Character balance, hologrind, blah, blah, balh you know the reasons.  Some guys jump ship to play EQ or CoH and some stay.  Now the new guys that bought SWG to hang with their buds are finding themselves alone in the game saying "wtf" for very good reason.  Others buy CoH to follow along (and because it is fun), but now with reservations that there might be another exodius.  So now with EQ2 on the way and some talking about moving to that game now, many are ready to say "to hell with this" and quit oline gameing completely as another guild/supergroup is disbanded. 

So to you out there with real life friends that play online games together, does this happen to you?

Do you all progress to the bigger and better games together, or do you just branch off in the virtual world and keep the socialness in reality?  How often do you revisit old games to play with someone that was left behind?  How often do you switch MMORPG's as it is?  Do you play them concurrently?

Or maybe the question is, how long do you stick with a MMORPG?  I know it can depend on the game, but with the vast amount of gaming goodness out there how can you not wonder if the grass is greener?

    Yay i keep in touch with the good friends iv made some are mvoing games but will still have a laugh on msm and look forward to finding a game that we all enjoy later on :)

    LOL ya 3 RL friends and my wife are all leaving UO to go play EQ2 with my son and his roommate who are both in beta .Went and saw the game baing played cant waitimage

    I stayed in Anarchy Online for an extra 8 months on account of friends. One friend started using Ventrilo so 5 of us have stayed in contact. Funny thing is we pretty much have met up in every game out there, current flavor of the month is CoH and we're all playing it.

    Have played together pretty much through AO, EQ, L2, COH in that order.
