There will never be a great Online game again ever, WHY? because the developers cannot please all.

And that you can carve up and take to the Bank.

It's not like we only have one game to fool about with like it was in 1999, now we have 1000s of them and hell even better they are free.

The only thing we  need now is two more 1TB hard drives and a bigger Generator in the Attic.

Baa Bored, ALT TAB to another free number .

Forget it there is no new GREAT wonder coming anytime soon. "Would be nice though" LMAO.

Free MMO is it "RIGHT" yepper about as free as a Ho on Friday  Night. Coming here is more fun than a barrel a monkeys.

I agree, it is a good game but not great as we can all see because not everyone loves it. So there will never be a GREAT game Online.

The only truth I can sort of agree on is the fact that there will be no MMORPG that is able to please ALL. (atleast not within the next couple of years)

But there is another fact, games in this genre do not have to please ALL, and thats kinda it's downfall cause to many people assume that when a game is made they need to like it or they even TRY HARD to like it. And they will loudly complain and try to mold the game into directions these games often never where meant to be heading.

The NGE is a prime example of developers listening to the vocal majority on forums instead of listening to the actual majority of players of the game.

Well, it's taking an exceedingly long time, but the MMORPG market should work like all other consumer products and services.

Right now we have a popular model, EQ/WoW. There are many copies of this model, a lot of them very badly done.

However, as technology moves forward, it should be cheaper to make an MMO because of available experienced labor, existing engines, lower server and bandwidth costs, perhaps outsourced artwork, etc.

At that point, you'd think SOME developer will see there's some money left on the table, and why not pick it up? EVERYONE isn't interested in playing an EQ/WoW clone, and there's enough players out there that a niche games can make money. Someone will eventually go after that money.

And to a certain degree we are already seeing this, just not enough to satisfy gamers. EVE is used quite often as an example of a game that is profitable, successful, and NOT an EQ/WoW clone. Others will follow, but it's just a long slow process.

For every EVE, we get a Vanguard, AoC, and Matrix.

There is always some unforseen blockbuster just around the corner in every industry.  At some point some crazy game publisher is going to give some wild eyed game developer some seed money and they will create the next big thing that everyone will play.  Other companies will rush to create mimmics of that game.

    Time will prove you wrong.

And again you are FALSE as someone else stated. It is YOUR opinion so it seems you will not have an MMO future.

I am in the WAR Beta and I will tell you a fact..You are 100% false!

If your definition of great is that everyone must love it, there has never been a great anything. Ever.

There have, however, been excessively ungreat things.  For instance, nobody, nowhere likes Jar Jar Binks.

Bingo, my friend. Very excellent point, especially in regards to the NGE.

100% truth is that the genre needs to do some drugs or something; the creativity is NOT there anymore. Until a dev can find an alternative to grind, tired quests, static environments, etc. I will not ever be truly impressed by an MMO again.

This is the MMORPG disco era.

There is no going back to the rockin' MMORPGs we all fondly remember and it won't get any better.

After this comes the parachute pants era and then finally it all ends with everyone doing the Macarena.

Hmmm in the history of MMO's there hasn't been a mmo that pleased all.

Not UO,Eq,Swg-pre nge and certainly not WoW.

    PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

Surprisingly enough, people might find enjoyment in signing up for some games that were released in 1999(or earlier) that they never got around to at that time. Just because a game is several years old doesn't mean it has outdated content. For example, I was pleasantly surprised by WoW because I thought the gameplay was similar to Warcraft.

People are even questoning the truth now! While he is completely right, most simple example is PvP and PvE people. You can't possibly please both, because they like completely other things. To make it more complicated, you have grinders, raiders, etc. in PvE and casual/relaxed, hardcore for PvP.

And people are even questioning that? What's next, a conspiracy theory that goverments are controlling our brains to like certain products? -.^

You know it, the best way to realize your dreams is waking up and start moving, never lose hope and always keep up.

Labeling this post as 100% truth you're certainly going to see a lot of people with very different opinions, as the truth is often debated by 1-10% of every group, even when it's obviously one way or the other... that's the way humanity is.

As for the OP's actual post, I like TheGrid's take on it:

Then there will never be a great book, song, movie, game, smell, temperature, baby, or food because not everyone likes it. - TheGrid

This thread being 100% truth is 100% false.

  • DhaemanDhaeman Member Posts: 531

The problem with games lately is that developers really are trying to please everybody. You are correct that it's an impossible task. MMORPGs should be as specialized as PC games themselves. The combinations of action/realism, slow/fast progress, pvp/pve, skills/level etc. is just too much to offer everything to everyone.

I'll give you credit for 33% truth.
