FAQ

FAQ: Overview

What is Crusades Online?

A Sci-Fi MMORPG being built on a universal scale never before brought to an online audience.

Is the project fully funded?

Yes.

What inspired the game?

Our inspiration for creating Crusades evolved through experience playing MMO's.  Playing along with friends and guild mates, we wanted to re-incorporate features that were no longer available or had been removed or nerfed in other games.  Players invest allot of time into their characters and in-game experience.  We will not be nerfing anyone and we will stand by the design constitution we have committed to.

Will Crusades feature real-time combat?

As close an approximation as we can maintain on a level playing field for all races and classes.

Is there player verses player combat?

Yes, and it may occur anywhere outside of the Homeworld systems.

How many Races will be in the game?

Our first release, 'Crusades: Homeworld' will include four starting races to choose from.  Four additional new races will be added in progressive iterations.

How big is the universe?

The core of Crusades is built on an infinite universe technology.

Is there permanent character death?

No.  When player-character death occurs, you will be released to clone, but not lose your hard-earned experience.  Death is more of an inconvenience.  For instance, armor will take a 10% hit, and players may also revive fallen comrades to various degrees.

What is a key difference between Crusades and other MMO's?

Crusades is built upon a persistent unified server instead of a sharded server base.  This means that all players exist in the same universe.  Players will not be limited to any particular map.  You will be able to virtually explore forever.  This also allows for greater diversity among group and co-operative play.

How is our avatars represented in the game?

First person / third person vantage point from 3D fully animated player characters.

May I let a friend play one of my characters while I play another one on the same account?

No.  You must have an individual subscription; however each account will have a generous amount of alternative character slots.

Will the game be continuously updated with new content?

Yes, content is updated on a regular basis after being tested and released through our development server.  Plus, new iterations will help players expand off of their Homeworlds into nearby systems and galaxies.

Whose vision is Crusades?

Crusades was a dream of one visionary with the input of friends, families, and guild mates from past mmorpg experiences.

How will players start out?

Players choose a race, generate a character, and then spawn in front of a trainer to begin a series of quests designed to orientate players to the locations of their Homeworld and specific functions of playing the game.

Is there a game storyline?

Absolutely, the story is set in a different universe during the year 4042.  People who enjoy epic science fiction adventure are going to enjoy Crusades, plus appreciate interaction with one another.

Many MMOs are set in a 4x or 6x real time - what is the real time rate in Crusades?

24x (1 real time hour = 24 hours in the game).

May I hire NPC help if no Player Characters (PCs) will help me?

Yes.  Players may hire henchmen or NPC characters to complete certain quests, but they won't replace the major benefits of group play.

Is there a 'Thief' skill?

Yes.  The 'Agent' can break and enter.

How customizable are player avatars?

Players may utilize day wear, a jumpsuit or armor.

Will there be names above player heads?

Yes, and it can be toggled on or off.

Will there be static spawns?

Spawning is intended to be dynamic rather than restricted to spawn points.

What types of enemy mobs may we encounter?

NPC types such as Mutants, Outcasts, Savages, Bandits, plus robotic and indigenous life.

How smart are the mobs?  Is their behavior static, or is there a random component?

Kynogon’s 'Kynapse 5' is selected for excellence in dynamic path-finding solutions, plus allows NPCs to find hiding places and other key features in a 3D environment. Thus the mobs may be as intuitive as our designers are creative.

Do items degrade over time?

Typically, many items take a 10% degradation hit upon player death during combat.

Will training pets be possible?

No.  However, players may have several types of robots which require training.

Can lone wolf style players (soloists) survive and enjoy the game or is grouping the best way to go?

Some classes are designed so that a soloist may complete leveling quests; however grouping is required for many quests and highly encouraged.

Will the character models 'morph' into a vehicle or are vehicles going to be completely separate from the characters?

Player-characters will be separate from vehicles.  For instance, in a Battlecruiser, your characters will play from the bridge.

Sound - will it play a role?

Yes.  Sound is designed to help immerse players into the game by giving players a sense about what is around them beyond the confines of their screen, plus the music is designed for dramatic effect.

How long might it take me to circumnavigate a Homeworld?

It depends upon the method of travel.  For instance, the worlds are bigger than most games that you may have played because they are close to the approximate size of real worlds.

Other than walking, how may we travel in Crusades?

A Hover board, Hovercraft - plus in a future release, players may pilot Spaceships.

Will vehicles be forced along routes?

No.

What kind of economic system is planned for Crusades?

Crusades is designed for a player-based economy.  For instance, if players need something, they must go to other players rather than NPC vendors.  There will be no free accounts on the live server, rather - players wishing to try out a character build and experience Crusades may do so on a test server, however gear and credits will not transfer over to the live server.

Will there be an auction house?

Yes, they will be based in cities.

May I own land?

Yes.

What kinds of player housing will be supported?

An extensive series of high-rise apartments within buildings of each city.

Can I build my own city?

Well, one player with a lot of money might pull it off, but typically requires co-operation between multiple players.

sounds cool, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Who is this developer? what have they made before? what is the experience of the dev team?

Be nice if they can pull it off though.

Whats with all the viral marketing threads for this game in the past two days.  Just another indie promoted game like Dark Fall or Earthrise.  Full of promise, short on delivery.

I'll wait till it goes live.

Yeah, i noticed that also. Multiple threads started by Meleemadness, which I've already reported for spamming/advertising ( I hate the weekends when there's apparently no mods working ). Looks like his little marketing spree worked, since others like the OP are starting threads about it now.

    <Mod edit>

Truth is if i see such threads i just report them [if they break a rule] then i ignore them.

EDIT :- Also i notice some of the core concepts for this game are just like what EvE has such as the claim that this game is on a universal scale NEVER seen before in a MMORPG. It seems the devs need to do a bit more market reserch.

If I call, everybody was saying Age of Conan was going to be 'one badazz' game... I'll reserve judgment until its been released...

Playing along with friends and guild mates, we wanted to re-incorporate features that were no longer available or had been removed or nerfed in other games.

In other words: not soloable. Anytime I see group/guild whatever now, I know it's really not soloable (1/3 content denied soloing, is not soloable).

Then you have a common recipe for disaster -- PvP included (in far away continents), but still included in the main world. Probably with rulesets that also make being a real PvPer impossible (because our group/guilds have to "just get along" too) -- it's Person vs. Person, not guild vs. guild, ya know??

    Another "one-size-fits-all-no-one-is-satisfied" MMO.

Eve is looking better every day (but then again, it's "regulated" by playing undercover Devs, too. Corporate really being corporate).

    More cookie cutter MMOs. Sigh.

From the description, it sounds exactly like a game that will not even come close to living up to its promises.

No offence, but if they can't even spell a lot, there is no hope.  It honestly looks to me like this game (assuming it is released) will look terrible, have tons of bugs and contain only some of the features listed.

Sigh, I hope not, hell this could just be one of those "WTF where did this come from?!" moments and this game wins big. Or it can be just a complete failure..

    OP

please change the font size. This is SO painful to read. Really!

Viral marketing is great and all, but until they have a bit more to show I am going to be sceptic. Their website is jumbled and the design not very nice. It doesn't look like they are fully funded.

I will keep an eye out, but don't expect a great following from people here. I think people are tired of all the mmo "companies" popping out with huge promises.

There are so many now. 9/10 will never produce a game, let alone a top notch mmo. The amount of work and ressources it requires will be too much for many of these small indies with a dream.

    That said, thanks for sharing.

Friendly reminder 'Demalus.." people make mistakes.  In pointing out someone elses mispelled word, you mispelled 'offence' - it should be 'offense' ;) !

No, it seems that almost every small indy devolper is now trying to copy Eve and making a sandbox space sim. (thanks, I just had a little marathon of his work last week.)

    Pwnt!

On another note,  I surf the forums there often, the developers already confess that most of the features that are on that fine script are ALREADY in-game. Heck don't believe me and say that they're lying, go look for yourself.

Not to perpetuate the wankerification of this thread, but "offence" is a correct spelling, commonly used in Britain.
