HELP!! I have a Trojan, what should i do?

i just got home from work, turned on my computer.  I notice in my startup menu on the bottom right theres some horoscope icon and another one  for something else that i didnt recognize.  All of a sudden alot of screens starting popping up, i double checked the keyboard to make sure nothing was on it that might be making it go crazy but there wasnt.  All these screens popping up were ad-like popups.  Aton being spyware ads ironically :p  I keep getting a windows message saying there are multiple 3rd party progs running in explorer reccomending i hide them.  I keep clicking no though.  I go into the folders and there are aton that i've never seen in my C: programs directory.  I try deleting some, and alot of them keeping saying to make sure if the program is write protected or they may be currently running.  How do i delete them then since it wont let  me?

Now i'm running Nortons and its moving REAAAL slow.  Its already found 26 threats and i keep getting messages of 'high risk threats called 'Bloodhound' its finding.  As i'm typing i keep losing my cursor to ads popping up btw.  One other thing i should mention is my computer has been turning on by itself for awhile now but i thought it was a bad power supply.  Odd thing is none of these icons were on my computer last night, when i go to bed i unplug it.  Can they still load stuff on my computer when its unplugged?

Somebody pls help me!  I'm a noob when it comes to computers and never had anything like this happen.  Will Nortons take care of everything?  What should i be really worried about right now?  I'd really like not having to redo windows and lose everything i have on my computer, that would really suck.  But if i have to then oh well~  If i use automatic logins to websites like here, can they automatically know my passsword?  And is there any way they can find out my credit card info if i've ordered stuff from amazon?  Ughhh so many questions, need help fast.  thanks.

nortons, is crap. it seems to have a problem removing files that are in use like some virus.

go get a free version of kapersky anti virus. that prog works great. it will remove the virus after u reboot. do a full scan with that and make sure to click remove all files. do not disenfect or move to another folder. just delete. then after the scan is done reboot. you may also want to get adaware.

it could be an ad that is connecting to download more virus as well so give it a good clean.

if you still want to use nortons, you will have to use their virus info database on their website to see how to remove each virus from your registry, so it will not be in start up then u can delete the files that way. will take some time. also make sure you system restore turned off first too.

well, Trojans are generally a good thing to have.  They are the best brands out there and has the highest security/comfort selection out there.  Also they're not that expensive.

The second step is to find a girl that you like and likes you back.

Usually a dinner is fine as a good first step.  Try not to take her out to the movies the very first time because you'll end up not talking to her for the next 2 hours...which could be very bad.

Do a quick peck on the cheek at the end of the first date.  Then proceed with the second date by asking her out again.

However to make things go faster, take her to a bar.

The actual instructions about the Trojan can be found on the inside of the box.  Please be sure to read carefully and follow the diagrams literally as directed.

Rule number one "Dont panic" well dont panic much ::::39::

Download and run Spybot search and destroy and SpywareBlaster and it would be a good idea to get rid *of Norton as its pants and a system hog try AVG its free and my Fav (I have tested it against others and used it for years) If you dont have a firewall go get one I use Sygate you can get a free version there but dont install it untill your system is clean.

www.grc.com is a good place to go for information on system security also.

    Hope this helps.

    you're screwed lol.

try unplugging your computer from the power outlet, and the power cord from your cpu, and do the same to your internet connection. unplug it.

then go to a computer specialist and get your comp whiped completely clean. start over.

trojans are one of the worst :D believe me, ive already had a few confrontations with them.

"Bloodhound" is a generic name used by Norton Anti-Virus that it might have found an unknown virus. In other words, your "virus scanner" doesn't have any idea what virus is running and it can't delete this because of this. (http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/bloodh.shtml).

    1. If your OS is Windows XP or Windows 2000, enable your firewall if it isn't already enable. (Control Panel->Network Settings->Right Click your Internet connection->Properties->Internet Protocol->Properties->Advanced Settings->Settings)

    1. Get good anti-virus scanner. Maybe F-Secure's (www.f-secure.com) or Kaspersky (http://www.kaspersky.com).

    2. Run full harddrive virus scan.

    3. If you didn't manage enable your firewall (or you don't like from OS firewall) in step 1, get zonealarm (www.zonealarm.com) and install it. Also Zonealarm's firewall is better than Window's own firewall (pre XP-SP2), because it will also block outgoing connection.

    4. Update your windows with latest patches from Windows update. Windows XP SP2 is highly recommended.

    5. Download, install and run spybot search&destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html)

    6. Check that your firewall is working properly by running Shields UP! test (https://grc.com/x/ne.dll?bh0bkyd2)

Well you can score just by kissing the girl's neck. I dont know why but it always seems to work. I've heard earlobes work too but I havent tried kissing a girl's earlobes (thankfully). That should let you score on first date.

HouseCall by PcCillin, works suprisingly well. It's free and it's web based to it's not corrupted or blocked by whatever AV you have installed. Run this, see if it works.

It's quick, it's free, and it's pretty damn good.

When your done go buy yourself a good AV. (Norton doesn't suk but it's the primary target of virus coders since it's the most popular, as a result most coders design there viruses to sneak around it, until norton knows what to look for.) So go with McCaffy or something.

As mentioned b4 use spybot or my favorite Ad-Aware to remove the adware. Both are free.

Then run any one of them, if they cannot remove the adware because its in use you will have to schedule a search at startup. SAFE MODE does not work for most adware are aready in memory even in safe mode.

I quit using internet explorer all together.I now use Mozzilla firefox and have not had one popup or infection since.
BTW if your going to use adaware i suggest that you get the version you pay for.I bought it they send the cd's to your house and you get free updates.
I dont EVEN bother with norton av i use my adaware popupblocker. It alerts me to any attempted virus trying to get into my system.
I scan at least once a week and have not had any issues since i started using adaware.

I too would recommend using Spyware blaster as well as Adaware SE as they will help keep your machine clear of these items.

I use Zonealarm Pro for a firewall and it is much better than the one in XP

You can get both Spywareblaster and Adaware on www.download.com for free and I donate to Spyware Blaster as it does a great job for me.

First, after you read this, unplug you internet connection. Like, right now. You are probably not behind a router and are connecting directly to a broadband connection of some sort. You are not behind a firewall if your system is starting up by itself (your network card and OS allows networked computers to turn on your computer remotely). Some amateur hacker probably found your IP and has been playing with your computer ever since. If you have WinXP, it has a pretty good firewall (heck, even blocks out stuff you WANT to see image). Use the Help and Support button in your Start Menu to find out about it (don't wanna post here on how to turn it on etc). Once that's on, go download ZoneAlarm from somewhere. Yes, it's another firewall, but it will allow certain connections that Windows firewall won't. Install that, restart, blah blah. When back in, open up your AntiVirus Control Tool, and update the latest version files. Then do a full system scan, don't go anywhere, it may need to ask you things. If you don't recognize it and it asks if you want to delete it, say yes. Even if it says your main game files are a virus, delete them, they probably are. After that's done and the anti-virus is happy, get the spyware removing tools that everyone mentioned above. Run them, remove EVERYTHING they find, and restart again. Only when you know you need to be connected to the internet to download something should your cable be plugged in.

If everything is still going crazy and there's nothing you can do, turn off everything, unplug everything, and open the case, and get out the hard drive(s). Take the hard drives to your computer nerd friend. Bring him beer if he/you are old enough, and if not, bring him a game or something. That way he will work as hard as possible to clean those drives. He will be able to connect the harddrive to his computer and do the same things as above, but with a stable operating system.

    Hijack this

    http://www.download.com/3000-8022-10227353.html

Be carefull what you delete. The "tell me more about this entry" button is your friend.

The reason I suggest this is because sometimes yoiu will have a browser hijack on there that keeps reloading the virus. These are not usually detected by virus scans or trojan scans.

You can also check your startup tab under MSCONFIG,to  un-check any malicious startup files.I myself use housecall as mentioned by another person, and follow there instructions.

    Just turn your computer off.

You usually get viruses from email and web surfing, not from computer breakins. USually the breakins occur after you get a trojan, like a keylogger or backdoor.

first, lemme say thanks for all the advice so far, its been a big help :)

I was panicking and did alot of googling after my original post, also took the feedback reccomendations here.  I've been downloading trial antivirus programs like crazy, deleted Nortons and now using a trial version of Karpensky's.  Seems like a good program and definitely caught alot more stuff Nortons didnt, only thing that worries me is when it went through the scanning it brought up some stuff that it couldnt scan due to being 'password protected', but they generally fell under a spybot category(alot being Shadowbane files, 'sb' oddly).  So i was kinda assuming/hoping those were trojans that Spybot already found and quarantined them.  I'm just not sure why Spybot didnt outright delete them, since i'd  feel alot more secure that way.  I cant seem to with Karpensky's because i dont kjnow the password.

I've spent the last 2 nights rerunning spybot and adaware over and over again and each time it seems to find more stuff it missed the first time, this confuses me.  Is it that its just missing those things, or could it be theres another trojan thats adding more stuff onto it while i'm running these programs?

I think i have everything you could possibly have.  I had an annoying PGate thing in my add/remove programs that i couldnt remove but got rid of it after doing a google search and using the site it linked me to, to download something from PGate to get rid of it.  Odd that i need to download something else to get rid of a program on my computer :p  At first i thought it was a scam site, but after googling i read on the 'Tech guy' forum one of their site managers said it does the trick so i figured i had nothing to lose.

As of last night my computer wasnt acting nearly as crazy as it was the first night.  But i'm still gettign random pop-up ads everytime i try to go to a website, and randomly a add where its loading an ad with a load bar.  I plan on downloading one of the reccomended firewals here, so hopefully that will do something about it.  I have google toolbar, even have blockout popups checked, but these popups arent being blocked.

I'm still paranoid but at this point i'm kinda like screw it.  This really makes me mad since i've literally wasted the last 2 nights downloading and scanning my computer all because of some stupid trojan or whatever someone planted somewhere.   Tonite is football and theres no way i'm going to waste the whole night again worrying about my computer.  I wish these people(people that plant this stuff or make these trojans/viruses) could be caught, i'd even donate to the cause.  They deserve life in prison, no joke, i'm really pissed about this :p

So now i plan on probably buying Karpensky's(already paid for Nortons :( ), buying Adaware since that seemed to find alot of stuff and was the easiest to delete stuff, and i guess a firewall if i have to.  I'm afraid to put in my credit card number to buy this stuff so i guess i'll have to call to see if they accept checks through the mail or over the phone credit card.

PS i didnt even have my XP firewall on for some reason, thought i did tho and dont know why i would've unchecked it.  Anyhow, thx to whoever brougth that up here, i wouldnt have thought to have checked it being on if it were for your post :)

Thx again for everyones advice~ image

oh and i do plan on downloading microsoft SP 2, but i read that wont do anything for stuff already on my machine.  So once i hopefully get my computer secure, i'll download that.
