probably not. reason l2 has so many free servers is becuse a few years back allot of stuff was stolen from the l2 devs...such as coding and what not...

ephim and sovrah will know more about it than me

That's true, there was some sort of a leak though I don't know if that happened during beta or prelude.

Interesting enough, there was a leak with the Lineage 3 code, several people were fired and then if memory serves, a good amount of dev's quit. I remember reading this in an online news article. I think it was a translated Korean article.

Quite frankly I don't know what it takes to make a private server. I've been told that there are WoW private servers which then begs the question "did someone leak that code or do you not even need the original code to intercept and translate the data?".

If it's the latter then it very well might be possible to create an Aion private server. We'll just have to wait and see. I personally am not for private servers as I actually do look at it as "stealing" IP rights.

Yeah, people took some time to code a Java based private server that could support 300 people online at the same time and that didn't feel like the real game at all in L2, that server didn't rely so much on the public leak of prelude excepting on database.

But there were "L2off" private servers, made out of that leak, that felt like the real game, even tho they were getting outdated as the expansions arrived. Without those L2off servers, the success of private servers in L2 would have been the same as in WoW's ones. So, if there's no leak, the private servers problem won't be as big, but im sure some crazy team will work in an emulator, they do it with every succesfull game.

if you look on youtube it shows you how to make a wow private server. all you need is a client of the game to make one. i think they fixed it in a patch though...or made it harder to make one...

and yes same thing happend to l3...but they started the game from new :) just to make sure.

I had my own private serers first too thest the game too, and after that i bought and play. But in that time. More people are coming to play at my Lineage 2 and WoW Server. And had in 1 month 400 players online!

If there aren't Aion Online Servers, all coming to off Servers. I want really appreciate that.

L2 clients are leaked pretty often.  the C1 client was around for a long time and private server owners simply modified it to add SAs and subclasses ect, but now C4 and C5 clients have been leaked and the private servers go on.

L2 private servers are popular because its got an INSANE grind, and a death penalty that makes the grind even worse.  so accelerated rate private servers became popular despite being buggy, missing features, and having corrupted staff.

i hope that people from Nc-Soft will take better care fop Aion ........ if they leak this game/ make private server it woudl be epic fail....i dought it would...all the features make it harder to copy/bot :p

I'll be honest.  I don't see how having private servers around really hurts the retail game.  yes, some people will move to private servers who will then not be paying for retail.  but private servers are never as stable/populated/updated as retail, so they are made up mostly of people who can't afford the game, or want to play on an accelerated server.

Private servers are full of corruption ect.  many people who play on private servers are a part of the problem, they "donate" to the server for special items, free levels and the like.  the exact same people who WOULD be supporting gold sellers and ruining the retail experience.

Sure private servers arn't great, but they arn't the worst thing ever.  Nothing to really worry about.

WoW's private server emulators are nowhere near perfect. Skills are bugged, scripts each need to be rewritten, talents don't work etc etc. Takes a lot of work to do the emulation.

WoW is a heavily scripted game, so its very hard to run a private server.  you can have all the geodata, all the mobs.  and bosses will stand there, mobs won't patrol, phases won't happen, mobs won't link ect.

Lineage2 has very VERY little scripting.  epic raid bosses are just really really strong, not smart.  they stand there until you hit them, and then chase you around like every other mob.  so the game is very easy to run a private server once you have all the geodata and code from a leak.

you still see private servers of both games.  the diffrence is Lineage2 ones are far more successful.  so Aion's private server future relies on how well it holds together when done on a private server.  the more player driven it is, the better it will be on a private server.
