Historical Content

I came across an interesting section on the official wiki, titled Historical Content. It contains a list of removed skills, quests, NPCs, items etc. from the game. I must say that some of the skills are quite interesting! I can only imagine the ways in which they would be used if they were included.

One particular example is:

Image:Disappear.jpg Disappear Spell. You disappear for 10 seconds.

Assassins would have a ball game with this!

Hmm, this is some pretty intresting stuff I wonder if they'll have a weekend event when you can access all of this. Lol, probably not.

Since you didn't add the link to it I took the freedom of doing it myself since I was quite intrigued by what you said. The Historical Content can be found here and here is a list of skills that got removed.

I like the image of Disappear it seems to be a image of the One Ring and a reference to how it made you disappear while wearing it. Some of the skills are just entirely ridiculous to take a few examples:

    • Unnatural Signet - All your skills are disabled for 30 seconds... No matter how good the nature ritual you remove is you make yourself worthless for 30 seconds! And that's at 15 Illusion Magic.
    • Twisted Spikes - Probably the most overpowered trap ever; AoE Deep Wound... If you take a ranger primary and reduce the recharge time of it this would be be better than even Wounding Strike.
    • Recurring Scourge - Three health degeneration for a skill that costs 25 energy and got 5 seconds casting time? But of course the fact that it is reapplied every time the target is healed must counter that!? Nerfed beyond redemption before even making it into the game, where it otherwise would've been abused in Recurring Insecurity and Soul Barbs spikes.
    • Weapon of Master - The only reason you would want to have much channeling magic on a m

Attribute refund points, oh god I remember them.

And wow, nature rituals used to last forever, and effect the entire map, and not create a spirit so that sig was the only way to get rid of them, that would be crazy with the nature rituals we have today.

Looking back at early game balance is always fun with MMOs.

I'm just glad the nature rituals aren't as powerful anymore. With some of the newest nature rituals available things could get very interesting, especially in PvP.

Ahh...I remember the days of grinding for attribute points to change your build.

I might go as far as to say this was the single most important fundamental change they made to the game early on.

Being able to switch your build as much as you want at pretty much any time is taken for granted now :-)

Yes, I remember this spell.  It was in the alpha/closed beta.  It was removed because the devs felt that it was too overpowering in PvP.  Interestingly, some skills that were added in the later expansions were actually created before the release of the prophecies. I was excited when I first learned that Lightning Hammer had been added back into the game.

Now that I saw attribute refund points I remember them very closely, and how annoying they were; I'm glad they removed them and changed to the system that we got now. Nature Rituals would probably be abused in pretty much every team if the same mechanics as before remained; and what if they would've used the same systems for Binding Rituals? The meta would revolve around using only spirits and nature rituals then.
