To my displeasure, I quit playing MMORPGs a few months ago until AoC came out. The genre became stale and new releases were badly launched.
I recently took a leap of faith and bought AoC on release. I am not 100% pleased with the game and to be honest, I only like the combat system and graphics at the moment.
So I am looking at past released games that I found unsuitable to stick with for various reasons, but that had potential to see if they are worth playing now. I have my own determining factors on if a game is worth playing or not, so I am not asking opinion on that in particular.
With DDO, I know there have been several content patches, bug fixes, and balances made since its release. DDO might be a game I'd be interested in restarting, but a few parameters must be met first. Did the recent module spur a lot of people to reroll? What about a resurgence in new or canceled accounts? I am asking, because introducing a new class usually motivates old players or new players looking to get in while there are people starting over to give the game a try.
So, how easy is it to find groups in DDO nowadays, since this past module introduction? Are there many new and/or returning players? Are most just rushing through he content to get to the new content at the higher levels? This worries me, because I haven't experienced any content past level 5 or 6 and would like to at a comfortable pace. I've heard and confirmed for myself when I resubbed sometime last year that people rush through the content, because they know where all of the traps are, only care about doing the dungeons with the best loot, and this is because they've done the content countless times before, which is more of a fault of Turbines than the communities.
I want some truthful, non-fanboi answers please. Is it safe to say if I reinstalled the game this week and started a new character, that I'd find a group fairly easy, regardless of class I choose? Is it safe to say that I will be rushed through the content if I want to find a group easily or that I will find people who don't rush?
Now, would you recommend playing DDO or would you wait for a new MMORPG or expansion to be released for another MMORPG, such as WAR, WOW, and LoTRO?

Peek time when to see new and old members return is when a new mod gets released. Right now Mod 7 is out with a heavy dose of new monks running around.
As for rerolling I see it all the time. A lot of people get tired of The Shroud so they play their alts or make new ones. You want a little spice in rerolling join a permadeath guild and add more spice to the game.
It is super easy to find groups. If nothing is up for your level make one, you will be surprised people that want to join. Yeah most do the loot dungeons a lot. If you want to see something new or go to a place you haven't been then your best bet is to make the group with the place you want to go.
As for rushing, yes probably happen. If you say you're new or returned to check it out if you could slow down the rushing I'd appreciate it, they usually slow down for ya and let you experience. I've had a few asshats who didn't listen nor cared.
And through all of that you will meet some great people who you can add to your friends list or run a few more dungeons with and play all night long. I went into the game cold a little after release with none of my friends wanting to try the game. You will find excelllent players/friends who if you play your character well will often send you a tell if you log in and say, "Hey we're missing a rogue, was hoping you'd pop in. Care to join?"
DDO is totally different from the games you listed. I wouldn't wait for anything, get the trial and see if you like the game again. This is my super casual game. I can log in do a dungeon or two and get great loot, good experience, and great community.

Promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate.
1. I would guess you would find a group fairly quickly.
2. I would guess on average it will be a rush job. To not get a rush job you'll have to work to find a guild or wait longer looking for notes stating the quest will be run slow or by creating a group yourself with said note.
Would I reccommend it? Yes. But I'm the type of guy that can play it fast or slow. However I do prefer slow on quests I never done, however that isn't always an option. Yep it's not all picture perfect.
I recently left DDO, because most of my time was being spent LFG instead of actually playing. It's the best MMO out when you can find a group, imo. Unfortunately, that last until about lvl 5.
It's easy to find groups to go fast through dungeons and level up quickly.
If you want to take your time and go slowly, exploring every bit of quests, it is possible but it requires more patience and involvment on your side (in particular, starting your own groups, with LFM notes clearly stating what your goals are, and being ready to tackle a quest with suboptimal party composition and less than 6 players, and not being afraid of failure). There are other people who want to go slowly, but they are definitely less than the number of experienced players who want to powerlevel, so you need to hunt them down. Finding a guild who is newbie friendly can help too, since they may (1) go with you in slow quests, or just (2) give you money / gear so you don't have to depend too much on a good party make-up.
I may just be a glutton for punishment but I love those groups, sharper that knife edge the better.
Hardly anybody looks at the LFG listings. If you want a group you have to join in the LFM panel or put up your own LFM.

DDO Permadeath guilds
Finding a group in DDO is as simple as:
Opening the group pannel (CTRL-G) wow that was hard
And clicking on the "looking for more" tab and joining any of the groups you qualify for. If none are available then you just start one and people will join it. I've never had to wait more than 5 or 10 minutes for a group.

QFT sub-optimal groups are the most fun groups I've ever played in.

I've done Perma Death I enjoy it, just havent been able to bring myself back into it since my WF Cleric died in Redfangs. I find Perma-Death a very enjoyable experience but it's only something I go back and do from time to time.

Very true. Getting a group in DDo is a question of 10 minutes at worst.
REALITY CHECK
Hardly anybody looks at the LFG listings. If you want a group you have to join in the LFM panel or put up your own LFM.
Hardly anyone? Then that is the games problem, the players are idiots. How can you play DDO (if not in a guild all the time) and not use that feature. It's the first thing I do every time I log in. "Is there someone getting a capaign together in my level range and what is it?" the first thing, then if not, I go buy/sell/ready and keep an eye on the LFG board. It's stupid simple.

LFG = Looking for Group. This shows an icon next to your name in the Who tab. Not many people look for these players when forming a group, and there are hardly any people that actually set the LFG flag anyways.
LFM = Group looking for More. There are always groups of several different level ranges forming here all day long.

Well if someone creates a quest and needs players, they have to be smart enough to know to go look at "who's looking to group" list for a match. Hmm... The next thing I do is send a tell to anyone compatible with the quest I'm running that is not in a quest already by looking and sorting "who" list. In my message I mention "no need to reply, if not interested", that is how I pick up a lot of people fast. I do that when not the leader as well, when trying to fill out the team. The whole point is some think it's hard and looong to get a group, you get what you put into it, imo.
